As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to entirely utilize voice chat within our experiences, and for players voice chat has a lack of thought out user experience which causes various issues within games for users and developers.
If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my development experience because it would allow for more customization with the use of voice chat, a better user experience for players across Roblox and additionally would provide more capabilities with the potential of voice chat.
Voice chat seems to have been neglected with pretty much no changes or added functionality since the release of voice chat.
This is a huge pain as voice chat has a lot of potential with what can be achieved, some key pain points are listed below.
-
Voice chat is only proximity based, which can make it difficult to introduce certain game mechanics, one that comes to mind would be parties, which are commonly used across games to allow team members to communicate with each other without allowing the enemy team to hear, allowing developers to switch from proximity voice chat to global voice chat or custom mechanics would be a huge help when creating voice chat based experiences.
-
Voice chat volume is connected to game volume, causing issues when you would like to solely turn down voice chat or game volume, rather than both conjoint, allowing separate controls and the ability to output voice chat to a different audio output would allow for significant improvement in user experience with voice chat.
-
Users voice chat volume cannot be individually turned down, which can cause issues when you are attempting to have conversations or simply want to turn down the volume of someone who is being a bit too loud, in a lot of cases muting other users is not always an ideal option, especially when you are still attempting to conversate with people.
There is a lot of improvements to be made to voice chat, both in a technical sense and an experience sense (primarily surrounding moderation, which is also another pain point which I partially highlighted in a separate feature request)
I ask that these pain points are taken into account and that voice chat does not get neglected as much as it does, as it is one of the most crucial aspects in social games on the Roblox platform, along with many other genres of games.
Thank you!
