I am now confused. Do you only want a drawing of a map that GollyGreg then builds?
No need to be condescending: I meant something different than was understood. I read the entire thing and I understand that the map is sci-fi/western themed and that new maps do not need its theme. I was referring to the game’s theme, not the map’s theme. From what I have gathered, the overall theme is “not necessarily sci-fi and not necessarily western,” which is a very broad description.
The several maps I made for the three Deathrun iterations required map makers to script their own traps. If you want me to not script the dynamic objects, then that is the way it will have to be.
More questions about the project:
Do you want maps that are symmetric or asymmetric? Mirror symmetric or rotationally symmetric?
Gamemodes?
Will you allow map builders to walk around the map? It helps me get more ideas and it means I can follow the building style better.
Intervening here. I think what Owen is trying to say is that I’m currently working on my own map after modeling a bunch of props after a random theme and tweaking my design with Owen and silentswords until they were all on board. From there we started building the rest of the map.
I’m probably not going to find the time to build everyone’s maps
My advice is to play a lot if TF2 for a feeling on map design concepts. Not that this FPS is a direct clone from TF2 in anyway, although many of the interesting choices the players have to make translate well to this style of mapping. From my brief time in a public test (I just asked silentswords if he’d open it real quick) both the ranges, damages, and movement speeds seemed ideal. I’ve also been making adjustments to give interesting ideas for rocket jumping in case that makes it into the game.
The maps can be symmetrical or assymetrical. They’re planning on implementing a few different gamemodes like CTF and KotH among others. Symmetrical maps are easier and usually more flexible when it comes to gamemodes.
Sorry for rambling. Basically what I’d do is try to figure out a theme, make a few props, and talk to Owen or silentswords. They need something to look at first before they can help

No we are looking for a map builder. But we aren’t going to start working with anyone until they’ve hashed out a rough plan.

I’m sorry if I appeared condescending, that was never my intention. I do suggest a bit more flexibility in your approach and manner when looking for work in future however.
As to your other questions.
We don’t care.
There will be all sorts of gamemodes, a good versatile map should work with this in mind.
If someone comes to us with a solid plan for a map we’ll definitely make the time to show them whatever they need to see. But at this stage no.
I see you have SS on Skype so if you can firm up a solid plan for a map send it over to him.
We are very active on Skype but at this stage are just in dialogue with maps that are solidly underway.
If you can put a solid theme together and a firm plan for a map we’d be very happy to talk it through with you. Sorry if we’ve been quiet lately but we’ve been very busy at school!
Don’t have any objections to that level of detail.
The only thing that matters is that the map fits in and has its own unique theme. What kind of theme are you going for there, how will it be distinct? Will your map fit in with our map?
I’m going for sci-fi theme (I’m only goot at this lol) and… and… maybe a kind of jungle with alien artifacts.
Or sci -fi theme (again) on a airship that may go for steampunk / sci-fi
Or even a volcano sci-fi research lab that experiment on ship’s engines (with a huge engine testing that would be the “train” equivalent).
Dunno yet, so I create some prop for now, until I get a cool idea, and a rough sketch id the map.
