Wanted: MAP CREATORS interested in SUBSTANTIAL REWARD

[REWARD:] >50K R$

Hello ladies and laddies,

We’re looking for MAP CREATORS for SO Games’ exciting new title named

(Combat League)

We want as many maps as possible. Maps need to be as detailed as the examples below.

[MAPS NEED TO:]

  • Have a cool recognizable setting (unique selling point for each map)
  • Be distinguishable
  • Have a dynamic, moving object (like the train in our example map)
  • Nothing needs to be scripted
  • Have lines of sight that improve the gameplay experience (meaning certain points should be blocked)
  • Have multiple routes, each with their own pros and cons. Flanking should be possible.
  • Have a consistent level of detail throughout the map
  • Be no bigger than our example map
  • Have no possible spawntrap positions
  • Be made in mind with Health and Ammo pick-ups
  • Have no overuse of CSG
  • Be rayfriendly (Rays don’t go around cylindermeshes, use alternatives)
  • Be fun to play!

[REWARD:]

  • We are willing to pay in excess of 50,000 R$ per map
  • We pay for Roblox taxes
  • This is dependent on scale and timeframe
  • We pay higher to someone who will stay in contact with us, make regular progress and incorporate our suggestions
  • (way more so than someone who disappears for ages, without feedback and with long adjustment periods)
  • Throughout the process we firm up a price
  • We value retention! People who are keen to work for more than one project will likely be paid better!
  • Although not compulsory we would love to build strong working relations that extend beyond single maps

[CONTACT:]

  • Be sure to answer the questions at the bottom of this thread!
  • Mail: hexrblx@gmail.com
  • Skype: owenqx or vincentwijma
  • Or reply to this thread!

[EXAMPLE:]

(Overview of the map)

(Corridor leading from blue spawn to mid building)

(Mid building ft. a pitfall to the trainrails, offices and midpoint)

(Corridor leading up to mid hill and the trainrails)

(Trainrails connecting in the middle - Warning: Moving trains)

(Red coast)

(Red backyard and spawn room)

[NOTE:] This map’s theme is science-fiction western. This does not mean your map has to be that too! Use similar building style but think of your own theme! Make it new and interesting.

[Please ask yourself the following questions:]

  • Do you understand what we are trying to do with this game?
Consistency in quality and style is important, if you can’t build
under someone else’s framework it’s no good!
  • Do you have a firm idea for a map? Is it distinguishable? What would
be the key recognisable features of your map?
  • What timeframe are you willing to work on? How often can you show us
    updates?

The crucial thing to remember here is we aren’t looking for someone to put together a room where people run around stabbing each other; we are looking for maps. It’s a lot harder to do than you might think!

If you’re up for it, which I hope you all are as you’re no doubt very talented builders, please reply with your answers to these questions!

Thanks for reading!

The tags are for the game nominations category btw: http://devforum.roblox.com/t/about-the-nominations-category/24

Oh haha, I’ll remove it. It seemed nice so I clicked it.

Thanks for replying.

Building techniques are one thing. But we need to see more.

  1. Are you capable of building on a larger scale?
  2. Are you sufficiently creative to pull off a map like this with its own unique theme and setting?
  3. Are you willing to put the work in to get this done?

We may consider paypal in exceptional circumstances if someone is producing very high quality of work.

I am capable of working on a larger scale, put in the creativity for the uniqueness of it’s own beast (unless you want a replica of something made outside of roblox), and most importantly I am willing to get the map done knowing the success of the actual game, and the legitimacy of your services. Which from your history of game making, I’m pretty sure my concerns are covered.

Not here to apply but I did want to say this is really cool!. Perhaps you could add a bit more detail though? Even low-end PC’s can handle more than this.

Btw I saw some twitter posts about this somewhere. Is it like TF2?

i’d like to try this out. i have built on the large scale before(usually bases for groups), so i can pull this off. my roblox name is the same as my name here in case you wanted to see some of the stuff i’ve done. i take a bit of pride in my ability to build things with decent detail and very few parts.

I would be delighted to build maps, hit me up on skype: Pionse_Pinecones and ill get to work on the first one.

You are giving builders good pay. So thank you.
I’m interested but have other commitments and deadlines.

But the fact is, you made me interested so your post works :+1:

Guys if your interested could you please ask yourself/answer the following questions first:

  • Do you understand what we are trying to do with this game? Consistency in quality and style is important, if you can’t build under someone else’s framework it’s no good!
  • Do you have a firm idea for a map? Is it distinguishable? What would be the key recognisable features of your map?

If your up for it, which I hope you all are as your no doubt very talented builders, please reply with your answers to these questions!

Thanks!

Detail is a bit of a balancing act however. Got to consider:

  • How easily replicable is the building style.
  • Would detail add much to the map? Or more importantly - does the lack of detail subtract from the map?

I think we’re at the point of a healthy balance but hey, we may be wrong! I’m sure feedback over the testing process will let us know.

Only way to describe the game is ‘Robloxy’, if tf2’y means it has cartoony weapons and wacky maps then yeah sure we’ll take that label.

Hmm seems like you built one half, then flipped it and recolored certain areas on the flipped half, and added some stuff in the middle

It’s a symmetric map yes.

That building style in your example looks amazing

Now we just need more people who can build like SilentSwords!

Check your inbox tomorrow. I should have a mockup ready by then

I’m thinking of building one since you really only need to build one-half

Ill have a mock up ready by sunday c:

It’s hard to understand how maps can be tailored to gameplay when I can’t visit the place.

As for the questions:

Do you understand what we are trying to do with this game? Consistency in quality and style is important, if you can’t build under someone else’s framework it’s no good!

This question is hard to answer because it seems to be three questions wrapped up into one question: “do you understand the goal of this game?” and “do you know how to build with a map template for gameplay objects?” and “do you know how to copy a building style?”

The first: no, not really. As I mentioned, the place is not open to visitors and I see no posts about how gameplay is supposed to be and/or general map design guidelines. The default map is a “sci-fi western,” but that can mean two things: the game is sci-fi, or the game is western. It could be neither, but I just don’t know because there’s no information.

The second: yes. I make lots of maps, so I am experienced in this.

The third: I can pinch-hit in many different building styles. The more complicated the style, the slower I go, though. This style seems to be rather simple, so no fear there. Making a map stand out while using the same style can be a challenge.

Do you have a firm idea for a map? Is it distinguishable? What would be the key recognisable features of your map?

Mostly, snow. The buildings will either be wood with gabled roofs or concrete with flat roofs, or both with color-coding. Gentle rolling hills don’t block many sightlines, but buildings do. Could be asymmetric, could be symmetric. Usually I start building a few things before an idea pops into my head that I really like.

What timeframe are you willing to work on? How often can you show us updates?

Timeframe: usually whatever I feel like. I have a lot of abandoned, mostly-complete projects because I get bored of them. If you need the map and I have lost the energy, I have no problem with sending a partially-complete map to someone else to finish up.

Updates: if you have a skype or twitter, you’ll get loads of updates. If you don’t get updates, just pester me.

Unasked questions:

Can you incorporate our suggestions?

Usually. Mostly. Yes. I aim to please, but at the same time I love what I build.

Can you create a dynamic object without scripting?

I have considerable scripting capabilities to create advanced moving objects such as trains that can stop and start on their own, sound effects, and environmental hazards such as lava flows or chasms opening.

In short: it will be difficult for me to make a dynamic object without scripting because the nature of what I do is very advanced. I don’t even know how the train in your map is controlled without using scripts of some sort.

Can you make a distinguishable map?

Oh yes. I have made a large number of maps for a large number of games. I have many ideas, crazy and rational, that I draw on to make a map that is unique.

Have you played TF2?

Yes.

Can you show us an example of your work?

It’s hard to understand how maps can be tailored to gameplay when I can’t visit the place.

All we’re looking for at this space is for a design outline of a map for a first person shooter. We currently have GollyGreg working on a map for us and as part of the process he is taking part in the Alpha Tests.

The default map is a “sci-fi western,” but that can mean two things: the game is sci-fi, or the game is western. It could be neither, but I just don’t know because there’s no information.

I appreciate the post is quite a long read but we did say that we wanted you to use the same building style but your own theme. We did spend time putting together this post so give it a good read before you apply.

Mostly, snow. etc.

I like what I hear so far but you need to flesh the idea out a bit more. Why don’t you start building some props, doing some sketches or just hash out a more general idea. Need to see more before we get started on anything.

Usually. Mostly. Yes. I aim to please, but at the same time I love what I build.

We can appreciate that. We try and be as reasonable as possible with our requests but with the amount of money we’re paying there isn’t much room for ignoring this aspect of the job.

In short: it will be difficult for me to make a dynamic object without scripting because the nature of what I do is very advanced.

The job is for a builder, not a programmer. If you have any suggestions as to how you want us to make a dynamic object that is great but that job is down to us.

Oh yes. I have made a large number of maps for a large number of games. I have many ideas, crazy and rational, that I draw on to make a map that is unique.

That’s great to hear

A map I was working on for MPB

Looks solid. Not the style we’re looking for in our game but close to it. It’s down to you to take a look at the map we’ve posted and decide whether you can build something like that. If you can, go ahead and reply.

All in all, thanks for replying and showing interest. I think you need to go back to the drawing board a bit, give the post a really good read and take a good look at the example map. If you can come to us with a more developed plan then we’d absolutely love to work with you!

Thanks buddy!
