This entire topic just shows how they are cutting their head off.
95% of the replies are in massive disapproval, and boy oh boy is this disapproval harsh. This shows that they would take money over community. Roblox is officially just another figure in Corporate America, and there is no denying it.
Its hard to watch it, but its the simple truth. You might just want to accept. Where you move from this point is your choice.
Well, we must say one thing:
This update won’t (or at least, shouldn’t) affect first person games, or games with custom characters, so for now, we’re kinda safe, we could simply get the decal of the old faces (Toolbox) and put them on an R6 rig when they’ll get legacied
Yes, yes I will not hide that I do, but that seems like the only choice we’re left with if this gets rolled out, it’s better than nothing we must say, but this update is still what it is:
Trash
Btw, I agree with your post and would like it if I could, but I gotta wait 10 hours
I urge readers to look at alternative engines. Roblox is just not worth your time and energy, as the engineers will accidentally reverse your progress some years down the line in the name of progress. If that doesn’t bother you, then maybe the unlikelihood of your game enjoying success and having a truly wholesome community might.
You’re worth more than a lego game for figureheads to benefit more from than you do.
I have a friend who is pretty indifferent to this update, citing that developers should fix it themselves if they care. They don’t really care because all the games they play are ones that have custom characters.
They’re fine to opine that way, but the extra effort to possess a classic and integral part of Roblox’s identity is not fine by me.
Besides, that extra effort could have been placed in more valuable facets of a game’s design and development process - this is something that you have to deal with because of Roblox updates, especially now because of this update in particular.
That is true, but it makes me question the value of self expression on your personal Roblox avatar if so many games just overwrite it anyways. I agree devs shouldn’t have to waste time to fix what Roblox shouldn’t have done, but its still something to think about.
Switching engines is not as easy as people think. Roblox’s engine is special in the fact that developments can easily be uploaded to a community that already exists, where you have tools to your disposal. Roblox’s engine was tuned for the idea of children and teens working on creating games, it’s very user friendly. I don’t want people to get the misconception that switching to another engine is a cute and fun thing to do, because there will be an unfriendly and hard learning curve. On a positive note, if ROBLOX does go downhill, people’s skills they’ve learned while developing can hopefully be applied in other places.
I agree, and that’s a big draw to Roblox. I personally develop private experiences in my free time for fun because I enjoy Roblox’s tools. I never intend to use Roblox to make any money, either for myself or the platform. At the same time, I recognize that Roblox is becoming increasingly hostile to users and developers, something you’ve no doubt noticed yourself. I have talked about the process of ens###tification multiple times in this thread, and that is why some are urging developers to begin picking up other development tools outside of Roblox’s walled garden.
I agree that Roblox makes it easy to push games out, though the tradeoff is something that has to be considered.
You have to keep up with the game code-wise, as a stray update on the engine could break something in the game. You lack creative control over how much you can portray, there is a lack of finer visual control with regard to visual effects…
There are a lot of things to consider when making a game, but some people never think to look outside of what they know. Roblox is not the end-all for game development.
People are fine to be contented with their fisher price game engine, but anything serious should be taken off-platform.
you received a warning? you have no idea what they have said to some people. Just agree that the update is good. everything will go fine.
For example:
Wooo! wow i am really super happy with this update. Not only does it take away my favorite face from being on sale, but it also turns it into a whole head. like what kind of genius thought taking something as simple as a decal and turning it into a whole independent 3d model, thats amazing level ideas. So now something that would take most UGC creators mere minutes, will now take hours or longer!!! thats really showing some good respect to them allowing them to really increase their skills. and allowing that CREATIVE OUTLIT. i know i know, they have already been making face’s using masks and everything but this is just pushing that level EVEN further. and they should be HAPPY at this opportunity! boi oh boi i know i sure am!!! I love that i get the whole head item for free. I love that roblox wants access to my camera considering how SECURE they have kept their data. three data leaks are NOTHING considering how many other companies get! so i feel fully sound of mind and body about that part. And just KNOWING that after this step. the possibility of yall removing the hats and hair i worked to get in favor of more DYNAMIC hairs and hats that are animated… golly gosh i think i am losing my mind on this kind of potential!
I 100% bet this thread will get shadowed in the thread list soon, a similar thing happened with the audio privacy thread where even though there were new replies, you had to scroll down quite a bit to even find the thread, probably for them to try and purposely make the thread go inactive.
I understand your point, and I’d like to add that ROBLOX already hands you a platform. Mobile support (if implemented easily), XBOX, and Computer. Games have the possibility of receiving a multitude of players due to its online feature, with servers by ROBLOX included within the package. You have no upkeep, besides the additional 5 dollar premium fee if you wish and your time given youre and independent developer. This is an extremely attractive deal which is why ROBLOX is succesful today. Unfortunately this attractive deal comes with abysmal percentages developers earn. A corporation has to earn money one way or another, right?
