First and foremost, these fancy animated faces are proving very expensive. What’s worse is that they don’t function well in R6 environments. If this is going to be compulsory for everyone, then budget-gadget users who struggle to toggle between their camera and Roblox are in trouble.
Secondly, could you please explain why you have decided to remove our much-loved classic faces? They have been vital for numerous avatars. Your mission statement is supposed to be driven by imagination, not corporate boardroom decisions.
Lastly, a gentle reminder, this is a community. Perhaps you could consider consulting us before rolling out updates without any prior warning? Thank you very much.
They actually did consult users about their willingness to switch to animated and they did not give a flying #### about the results.

only 33% of developers polled said they would upgrade to animated faces
The post clearly outlined the use of a Camera to track one’s face and reflect their movements as face animations in the dynamic heads, not voice chat.
ok but the difference between unity, unreal, etc. and roblox is that roblox consistently pushes out bad updates that make the community as a whole very upset. I don’t think most game engines launch out updates that screw over the community and cause them to jump ship
I now believe this to be a part of Roblox starting their plan to sunset R6. That has to be the main reason why they’re forcing this in the first place - there’s no other even remotely logical reason. Especially considering how they’re doubling down on it.
Think about it: The new heads do not work with R6. Neither did Rthro or the new clothing, but the difference is that those were optional. This is mandatory. Thus, they have more of an excuse to get rid of it.
It doesn’t make sense that they’d remove old faces for any reason. They weren’t out of date engine wise, they just used decals. The new heads aren’t accurate enough to be worthy of replacing them either, so the logic of Roblox removing them for an in-engine reason falls apart.
And the logic of “this pleases investors” doesn’t work either. The technology was already being added anyway, and by the logic of people in this thread (not very sound logic mind you), that’s all they care about. So why would Roblox decide to get rid of something that wouldn’t harm them to keep in the game? If anything, this move would push more investors away.
I know I sound like Charlie trying to figure out Pepe Silvia, but seriously, this is the only sound conclusion I could come to in regards to them making this a mandatory change that we all have to grapple with. Other than the alternative: they’re doing this just to troll people. And that doesn’t sound very realistic.
I am intrigued to see where this is going to go. Because if it goes the way that I think it’s going to go, there’s going to be drama. And lots of it.
I know but he criticizes the fact there’s no reason to use dynamic head. Should be allright just for Voice Chat then.
I mean, I don’t really see a strong reason to use them other than personal style, and this appears to be going mandatory in the near future.
Cool changes but at least give us the option to disable the animations so the face doesnt move at all
Ok, that is a generous way of summarising what people this. However, I may have a solution to this. Feel free to say if I miss something, I often do. Keep in mind, that I will use animated faces as I quite like the added animation in emotes.
First, what I see as a solution,
The animated faces section in the avatar editor, should have an option to disable facial animation. I think this would make a large number of people happy. This should be a separate option to real-time facial animation. Therefore, real-time facial animation would be enabled by enabling facial animation, then enabling real-time facial animation.
Next, what I think of the change,
The change is more of a logical step, rather than a huge change, this would allow developers to make their games more realistic by adding mouth movement to characters in a game. Facial expression can also show a lot about how a character feels. There would be a large number of possibilities by using it on a character. I would think that is what led Roblox to decide that they should give it to players too.
Finally, the thing we all know,
It doesn’t sound like a good thing, but we may just have to accept this change. Roblox seem very sure of this change, I have the impression that they have been working on this for a long time. While the small details like the facial animation toggle might be something that would be added, it is very unlikely people can convince them to scrap the idea.
I don’t mind the dynamic faces being added up but never replace classic faces at all. I stopped playing Minecraft but I guess I’ll rethink of this when the platform collapes.
Oh well, we can’t have nice things
I presume they’ll be “unsupported” with minimal updates if it catastrophically breaks in some way (somehow), in the same vein things like gears and classic clothing are still available.
They don’t make any new gears with the rare exception of packages, but you can still equip them in your profile, so i assume the same deal will happen with faces, just that you cannot buy them anymore (to i assume reduce confusion and “widen” support in a way)
The update you have given has just made things worse!
Taking all classic faces away and replacing them with dynamic heads. Seriously?
Nobody is going to buy a recycled face for way more than it originally was with it’s only new feature being blinking and copying the users real face (which is creepy and probably wont be used by 80% of people anyway)
I genuinely have no idea who you think you are roblox, literally nobody is rallying behind this update everybody is against it. Stop with these ridiculous updates it’s just tiring seeing you make another terrible decision every month.
Replacing the original faces just to make the animated is such a horrible idea. By putting the classic faces off sale, it also limits the creativity of those wanting to make avatars.
Forcing people to use it and making it mandatory is a great way to get the community angry.
Please put the classic faces back on sale.
If your vision is for “everyone to have an avatar they love”, stop taking classic faces offsale. They should be an option for everyone. No one really wants this.
We don’t have much of an issue with the dynamic faces update itself, the problem is actually in the way you are rolling out the feature.
Yeah, despite being able to just switch back to our old faces, we don’t want the newer users to be forced to switch to the “recreations” of the classic faces.
Sweeping classic faces under the rug is ACTUALLY what people take issue with.
Honestly, with the way you guys are rolling out the feature, you are shooting yourselves in the foot. There wouldn’t be much of a reaction if there wasn’t this huge catch of classic faces being literally replaced with this feature.
But now people’s overall impressions of the update have been lowered due to how it’s being rolled out, most hate the feature itself now and it’s the fault of the rollout.
Please roblox, just put the classic faces back onsale and give people options. That isn’t too much to ask for, is it?
Nevermind guys this update is good because Baszucki will be able to fund his 14th mansion!
oh wow what a deja vu surely roblox has not said anything like this in the past right… right???
really? are you sure? maybe double check some things once or twice? no?
To be completely honest, I do not mind dynamic faces and I am sure that plenty of other users are the same on that opinion. What we do mind is Roblox taking away our classic faces for an inferior 3D version.
The problem everyone is having is that Roblox completely missed the point of what we wanted from this update. I do not mind the 3D faces, but I do mind not being able to purchase new 2D faces. This restricts - you hear me - restricts people’s vision for an avatar they love. What if a new user wants to have a 2D face for their avatar as it aesthetically works for my design? Yes, I will be able to use my classic faces, but new users won’t!
Roblox clearly missed the mark on this. I just hope that Roblox decides to make 2D faces bundled with their 3D counterparts when you purchase them so you can have a choice. It also will allow for more customization options for new users who don’t have those 2D faces. I hope Roblox is writing down our actual concerns instead of what they think our concerns are.
I will be honest, their correction is a step in the right direction, but not a far enough one. 2D faces should stay alongside 3D faces. This is why we have 2D clothing alongside 3D clothing.
Please do not remove already existing features, the players already love. Just give the players a better alternative and they will switch automatically. Forcing everyone is just the same as with the rthro avatars.
