Originally I posted about the problem here asking if there was anything we could do to control how adjacent parts were lit to make them appear as a single, solid part. There doesn’t appear to be a way to control that yet. Observe the following creation:
On the left is a ramp I made out of triangles. Given the nature of the ramp (curving to the side and going upwards at the same time), it had to be made out of triangles instead of flat parts – there’s no way around that. On the right is the same ramp but with its material set to Neon and viewed on a lower graphic setting that doesn’t display the glow. The purpose of making it non-glow neon was to help make a comparison. Compare the two ramps – the one on the right looks like a solid piece, completely smooth, while the one on the left is an ugly concoction of triangles that looks anything but pleasing to the eye.
CSG is not a solution for this unfortunately. I may want parts > 40 degrees apart (limit at which CSG stops rendering two faces as a solid whole which @zeuxcg mentioned here) to appear as a solid whole. It is for this very reason that we need to be able to control how parts are lit to the point of being able to make a group of parts appear as a solid whole. I want two smooth ramps to coast up the sides of that circular platform, but that is currently impossible to make right now on ROBLOX ):
