I still have this bug. If I add someone new I have to message them to get rid of the notification, and if I recieve a message I have to type something in the message input to get rid of that one (sending isn’t needed, oddly enough)
I still have two unread chats however, despite having messaged everyone on my chat list, which is personally extremely irritating.
This is still an unfixed problem on Roblox’s end and everything above is correct lol. When you add someone as a friend it says you have a message from them
The (#) in the tab title, chat badges, highlighting in the chat menu, etc. can get really annoying sometimes! I’ve only been able to fix these by replying! They only should be able to be cleared by merely reading them, marking them as read, etc.! What an inconvenience!
This bug has come back for me, I have had one notification that has been stuck for months, with no messages appearing as unread. Experiencing on both web and app.
This still happens for me. However, rather than just never going away, you have to sort of click around the chat box a few times, then the site finally decides “alright I think he clicked it enough times, he must have read it now.” Lol
It’s a little difficult to see but if you fullscreen the video, you can see the unread notification in the tab at the top, and you can also see when I click at the bottom with the circle indicator. Takes a few clicks for the unread thing to disappear — it’s not just a delay, since if you don’t click it enough then it doesn’t go away, and this persists between webpages.
It’s absurd that this is still an issue six years on, and because of the new addition of a “✦” symbol to Roblox website tabs when you have a chat notification, there is now a second bug which is an offshoot of this original problem.
It has made every Roblox website tab become a flood of “✦s” instead of actual names.
As a workaround, you can type a single character; hit backspace until the message box is empty and then hit enter. The chat window will then mark the message chain as “read” plus no message will be sent to the other user as there is no message content in the textbox! This has at least worked for me for the past few years, hope it still works and helps you out to.
I am currently experiencing and have experienced this UX issue for many years on the Roblox platform. I really dislike how the chat notification goes away at random if you use the feature as intended and that inputting game-cheat like maneuvers that won’t come to anyone’s mind work as a workaround to resolve the issue.
In order to improve the UX, opened chats should be automatically registered as read, which is the intended behavior.
While this forum topic is old, it still holds today - it is still an issue which needs to be addressed. Hoping for a near future address…
Whats funny is the only way to make the notification go away is to disable “Who can text chat with me in app”, but then I cant comment on my own groups. I remember this issue from years ago.
If the recent update that should have fixed this has still not removed your chat notifications, I found that BTRoblox has a hidden away feature to flush them out! This is the only thing that has worked for me, so I wanted to share it as to help people who are in the same boat.
