Finally made some progress on something I started in 2016 and it’s running pretty efficiently with lots of ropes.
There’s a lot going on in the background to what seems like a simple thing to do.

For those interested I solve a catenary curve for each rope and each new rope formed. Catenary curves model a real world rope pretty accurately and are what Roblox use to model theirs. I then use some intersection maths to find the point along the curve at which to cut and then work out the length of the two new ropes. Catenary curves can be hard to wrangle but I recommend giving them a read
Unfortunately Roblox ropes don’t have any weight themselves which makes them behave unrealistically in certain situations.
A while ago I created a airfoil simulation that accurately behaved like real life, you can check that out here. I took that same module and applied it to a basic helicopter. Helicopters use swash plates to control pitch and roll of their aircraft. The rod connected to each rotor moves up and down as it travels around the swashplate, changing the pitch of the rotor and thus causing more or less lift on that side of the helicopter. Heres an animation to explain better:
I simulated the swash plate by hand with Motor6Ds for changing the rotor pitch. Here is a quick video showing the concept and test flight:
The end result was semi controllable but really unstable and thus unusable in the application I wanted. Was a fun experiment.

now with proper teams, and correct models for each ones!
the rebel trooper had a face texture, but oh no! it looked too real, can’t have that on roblox…
now if only i knew someone in the star wars community to help get word out about this project

Add whitespace on the left of the text (pet peeve). Also, have a dropdown menu so you can click on “Structural” and it opens up Basic, Wood, Shoji, and Modern. So expandable/collapsable folders would be nice.

Hm doesn’t look expandable/collapsable. Maybe it’d help to add an arrow like Roblox Studio.
