What are you working on currently? (2017)

pretty much lmao

Considering we’re all on the subject of mini-maps, I have something that renders one also. It can also output files in HD but it does take a while to do so. It includes MSSA, shadows and specular settings and such.

A 3000 x 3000 render of crossroads using nothing but Roblox Studio and node.js. MSAA and shadows. Could be used for a mini-map if done in real-time.

I don’t have one of those plugins ;0 I hand rotate my roads.

I spent a few months on the map, I started with the roads and had some rough terrain plans but nothing final.
Part to terrain plugins are helpful! Also build v4 is great.

Were you planning on making the map with smooth terrain from the start?

Yes, roblox does a great job optimizing it for different devices and quality settings. Easy to make big changes versus part terrain (which I’ve done plenty of) too.

After making Jailbreak’s map I don’t think I’ll ever use part terrain again for a big game. Only for showcases or something similar!

Edit: one more thing. I might only recommend smooth terrain if you’re going to mix materials (grass with canyon walls) and make something desert themed. The terrain material selection seems to favor deserts…

On a serious note it looks lovely, but you should probably use the edge split modifier or adjust the vertex distribution, seeing weird shading like that makes me cringe inside. :s

Only reason i’m not using it is because my game doesn’t have very many shadows :stuck_out_tongue: Trying a cel shade type deal like Blamo.
