What type of games do the players want?

Currently, I am trying to work out what genre players want the most, however, I am not sure due to genres being very unclear.

What do you think people want? Do they want a game that is completely unique and hasn’t been seen before or do they want a specific genre?

Any other thoughts will also be appreciated!

There isn’t really a good method/way of knowing what players currently want, one day people could be wanting to take care of pets and dress them up (lol), and the complete next day they could want to go mayhem and use rocket launchers on people.

If you can create a unique game that you know that people will want to try out and play like for example, silhouette, its a game that just popped out of roblox recently which is a unique twist on obbies using shadows, a simple concept that people ignore for a while til a unique concept came up. As long as it can grab the player’s attention with something they haven’t seen, they’ll want to play it.

However, the safer method would be to look at the overall games people are playing as of currently, right now, you can see simulators, FPS Games, anime and fighting games on the front page. Doing one of those would give you a safer time however, other consequences could occur such as people disliking it since they see it all the time, its not unique enough, its boring, etc.

It all depends on how you’d like to go around it, create a unique game that people want to play, or create the same game over and over again to have a probable safer time of turning in a profit or not :man_shrugging:

My words are the same as @3rdhoan123. But I’d like to add on more and say that try and do one of the safe games first. The problem with unique games is there a chance they never get on the front page and recognized. Once you got a fan base from your first game, branch off to do something unique because you have a following that can supply that idea if you know what I’m saying.

Hope this helps.

Honestly you can do whatever you want to develop, no one can stop you, though a lot of games are practically the same thing and have little to no variety, the main culprit being something like simulator games or tycoons.

I recommend to add a neat little twist in genres that haven’t been used before, which can really spice things up and allows a whole different skill-level for mechanics and stuff like that, good examples would be:

  • Bomb Jumping/Bomb Flying in Doomspire Brickbattle
  • Rope Platforms, Push Platforms, Push Boxes, and Wallhopping in Jupiter’s Towers of Hell
  • Slowing Down Time in SuperHot/KARLSON
  • Bullet-Hell-based turn combat in UnderTale
  • Sparing/Mercy in UnderTale
  • etc.

I honestly love games that introduce stuff like that, and it can really make your game standout from other games in the market.

Thank you! It helps a lot

I totally agree. Thank you for your advice!

Thank you for taking the time to explain and give advice!

There isn’t a 100% answer to that, however, make a game that isn’t on the platform. By doing that, it will allow players to try something new and open up a new genre.

I’d have to say something that is both engaging and fun to play but also minimizes the pay to win aspects. I think the new Premium Payouts feature will help limit pay to win a bit.

Players don’t really like newer games that haven’t been seen before because they don’t know how to take it, It’s very difficult to understand what an average player would want. They could either wants more simulators or they could want to cause destruction or something else. Safer ways of knowing what a player would want is like an Anime game or what’s on the front page, look at those and get ideas from it to know what a player would want since those are the trending games.

I don’t really agree with you. If you came up With a new gameplay and you explain it well I think people would love to play it rather than just playing those simulators which have been made like a hundreds of times.

That’s the thing. It’s just hard to think of what the community would like.

Nice of you to think like that! I would recommend making something fun where you mainly use fanaticism (Target Group: Children) or think of something new, for example, that has never or almost never become known. In order to make your Game known I will recommend you to make advertisements. Make serious and no memes advertisements because they don’t work well! I hope this will help you.

Games like Silhouette is completely new and different and It’s been getting a bad reputation of 67%.

This is a question most developers ask themselves when planning a game to make, it is a critical question because many variables have to be factored in to make the best choice. So I am just going to go over my thought process on how I would pick a genre.

To be able to pick a genre I would say first look at what player base you as a developer would like to target, is it kids under 13? Or are you looking to go for a player base that is older and more mature. Once you handle this critical question you can begin to close in on what genre is best.

The second point is to take into consideration how long you expect your development process to take, if you are planning to work on a game for months and almost a year. Dont expect the same player interest you had before. Reminder that players tastes change, as well as someone might put out a game that is just like yours. So you might want to try something completely unique to avoid any issues with that.

Lastly I want to say, and this is important. Make sure to communicate with any friends you have on the platform as well as ask around. Having a good understanding of what players want is really the key to creating that perfect game. If you see that their is still a demand for a specific type of game though it has been already done, then you know that this genre has room for improvement and potential. So really it is all about knowing what the community wants at the end of the day.
