@minkmink This is normal. If Studio thinks it is in a broken state it will reset your layout on its own in the next restart. The 3d view undocking was disabled to give us some space to understand why layouts continue to get corrupted, as we believe there is a correlation between users who get frequently corrupted layouts and users who undock 3d view. We will re-enable it at some point in the future.
oh, i see. is there any way for me to manually enable that? it would help immensely with animating, and generally having a bigger workspace
Not at the time. For the time being you can hit this button
Which will help give you more space.
Additionally, you can click these icons
To hide the widgets and make them only appear when you hover over them
If you have a second monitor, you can drag out all your relevant scripts and widgets to your second monitor and leave the 3d view as maximized as possible in your first screen.
We are working very hard to restore this functionality for users soon
I fixed it, but it was simply not there at all. I had the script recovery thing next to it (it was docked on the left) and it was completely frozen and unusable if I remember correctly. The rest of the interface though was functional and right clicking to move the camera locked the mouse, so I assume Studio thought the viewport was still there.
The issue isn’t always consistent, so it took a few minutes to get it to appear:
While the viewport disappears, the game continues to run normally in the background (you can tell by the music playing). However, this isn’t permanent and the viewport can reappear by clicking “Stop” after around 4 seconds and trying again. But it also has a chance of occuring again after fixing it
Had a weird issue as well recently.
After going into studio, my whole layout was reset for no reason. I put everything back in its place, and after restarting studio, it reset again.
The second time might just be some automatic failsafe? My viewport got messed up and I couldnt do anything to fix it, so maybe the layout reset automatically because of that.
Yes, if studio thinks it is in a broken state it will force reset your layout on the next time you open it. It’s a failsafe so you are not forced to work with a broken studio layout. It’s meant to buy us some time to understand these problems better.
thank you for fixing the issue
@ElephantMesh I am having this issue again, It started acting up again within the past hour. I have restarted studio many times and any time I press “Stop” while playing the game it completely breaks the docking for any windows I have forcing them onto my second monitor.
how many times do i have to >Reset View or restart studio to prevent this issue from happening?! I’m getting so frustrated
What I’ve noticed is that while I no longer get this issue when working with projects opened from Roblox directly, I’m pretty much guaranteed to have it from anything opened from a file.
I am expierencing this problem too.
This issue still persists and it makes Roblox Studio completely unusuable and frustrating. I have to restart studio every 5 minutes because one of the following issues occurs: game viewport doesn’t work, cannot swap between script tabs, script tabs just don’t show up, cannot edit scripts.
I am able to pretty much reproduce these issues 100% of the time while having more than 1 studio instance open.
Another issue with docking in Studio:
Been buggy A LOT for me now a days. The bug I have experienced the most is the games will so but no tabs, not even the ‘File’ tab or ‘Games’. REALLY ANNOYING
Any update? This is impeding my workflow.
I can’t play test without my window getting stuck at the top left of my monitor.
There’s no certain solution, reinstalling may temporarily fix it, but it will occur again, experiencied this like eight or ten times, since there’s no solution for this.
It seems that the window got shoved into the top left? I can still interact with the ‘Save to Roblox’ button if i click where it would be on the right.
Yesterday I encountered an issue where the viewport itself would render, also in the top left corner, on my main monitor instead of the monitor that Studio was actually located on.
Edit: Closing and reopening the Asset Manager causes it to display in the top left corner of my main monitor.
My team and a friend of mine’s team still experience this on a regular basis…
Empty panels in the docking widget. Various causes.
Fresh installs of studio. Windows platforms (10,11,11Pro)
