Would a lootbox where the prize is 99% nothing, as opposed to a common item, be against ToS?

Is it against the ToS to include a lootbox that has a chance of awarding nothing, as long as the odds are clearly displayed to the player? This setup would be similar to how many games handle lootboxes, where the majority of the time, players receive a common item that is often discarded, with a small chance of winning something rare. I’m considering removing the common item altogether and only showing the odds for the rare reward, giving nothing otherwise. Would this approach comply with the ToS? I can’t find any specifics on this.

I must be missing something. Either there isn’t something you’re telling us, or I’m slow.

Of course it’s not allowed.

Don’t give Preston any ideas. :skull:

No, it shouldn’t be against TOS as long as the chances are accurately displayed to the player.

That’s against the rules. OP is asking if it’s allowed to get nothing from a lootbox.

He already forked his “egg” system himself :fork_and_knife::spaghetti:

Yeah that’s obviously against the rules, legit gambling at its peak

Yes, who said it’s against the rules? All it says about these:

Paid random item generators include those purchased with Robux directly or via in-experience currencies that are purchased with Robux.

  • If paid random items are available in your experience, users may not trade or sell the resulting assets for Robux, real currency, or anything else of value on Roblox.
  • Creators must use the applicable PolicyService API to ensure paid random items are only accessible by eligible users.
  • The odds of receiving each possible resulting item must be accurately disclosed to the eligible user before the moment of purchase.

It never SAID nothing wasn’t allowed, did it?

You’re actually so annoying

Literally if you gain nothing you’re paying lets say around 2 dollars for a “lootbox” with nice stuff, and there’s that 99% chance where you get nothing.

2 dollars = 1.61 pounds, for my fellow brits

You’re basically wasting 2 dollars (which you could buy a chocolate bar with) for a display of pixels basically saying “womp womp stop gambling”

Actually, now that I think about it, if you’re getting nothing there is a risk factor of losing Robux for no reason meaning it’s literally gambling, but you can easily make an unusable item or cosmetic and it’ll still count as an item that the player knows they have a chance of getting. (legal loophole)

It’s not explicitly stated that the numerical odds must add to 100%, but it’s implied that they should.

The odds of what? Also, they would probably explicitly state it if they didn’t want people doing it.

Now, I would never do this to my players, but my job is to assist, not judge.

The odds of getting an item from a lootbox.

Doesn’t imply that you’ll get an item 100% of the time. Even if so, you could technically stretch what qualifies as an “item.”

What am I supposed to expect here? I’m just helping a user solve a problem. That doesn’t really apply here.

“trying to solve a problem”

buddy you’re just creating a preston 2.0 and “helping” the user

They want to do something and there’s a solution I know. Do I:
a. Tell them not to do it
b. Tell said user how to do it and get a free solution

Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. After all, if there’s a 99% chance of you getting nothing from the lootbox, isn’t it clear that you’ve just made it clear to the consumer that they’re wasting their money?

Either way, it kinda sounds immoral, so even if it isn’t against TOS (it most likely is) you still should not do it.

I think that’s stretching it. It should be common knowledge that loot boxes should guarantee an item, regardless of its usefulness. What OP is asking for should not be allowed and I would not push their luck.

OP I hope you find a better path in life.

I pick A, your so negative about literally everything and have to disagree with someone

“oh no guys giving them a 99% chance of wasting money is perfectly legal and 8 years olds should be able to do it at willl!!!”
