Well, in my opinion obbies are okay, I sometimes play the popular parkour games.

However, I think that the topic should belong to another topic (Discussion maybe?) and I think you could build a poll using the text editor instead of listing them manually. (on the text editor which is opened when you click reply or create a new topic, click the gear icon and click “Build Poll”. Then, adjust its content that matches your desire.)

I personally don’t mind obbys if they are done correctly and aren’t just eye pops that just want your attention and spam you wish advertisements. I was making a obby that had a story and interesting twist onto it, however I never finished it. There are a few gems of obbys out there that I enjoy to play from time to time, however the most general opinion of obbys for me is that they are, well… okay. They can be a time killer, but not something I would return to for enjoyment and entertainment unless it’s a classic, and or is well done and polished.

Obby’s are a-lot like simulators when it comes to rating, the majority are trash and a small portion are really good.

A lot of obbies that make it to the front page are very basic and consist of mostly the same elements: simple parkour, checkpoints, and some form of a theme.

Personally, I dislike obbies. They are basic and are all the same at the foundation. If you want to create an obby that will be interesting, be creative. Build unique courses instead of basic lava checkers and truss courses. Add decorations and little details. Take Tower of Hell for instance. ToH is an obby at the core – with a twist. What sets it apart from other obbies is that each level is unique. They’re randomly generated each time.

TL;DR - Obbies are basic at the core and require more elaborate development. It’ll take more than a stand-alone obby game to create something decent.

Basic obbies really only appeal to the new players who are trying to learn how to play. As for the more advanced obbies that have attracted a wider variety of players (shadow run, etc) have a more unique way of presenting the obby. Games like Obby Squads have the combination of obbies, with competitive gameplay which makes people want to play more.

You should either reconsider your idea to make an obby, unless you’re just experimenting. If you’re dead set on the idea, you should try and build it up. An idea can branch out into multiple things, you’ve just got to let it do that.

I don’t like standard obby games, they are boring because they are always the same.
However, I really like automatically generated obby games like Swift Hightail. They never get boring and have nice additions.

I dont like obbys because most of them are same hence they are boring.

I only obby I liked was Escape the prison obby in which you find the keys and solve puzzles and obstacles to win. And the same person who made this obby also made Escape the Mansion which was similar to this and I really liked it. And this was the game that got me into game making and scripting since I also wanted to replicate a game like that.

Obbys are a very good thing when a player is bored or looking to relax for a little bit but I wouldn’t expect to find a consistent player base if you were making one.

A lot of people including myself find an obby once and never return to it after either having to go or completing the obby.

I have seen people save player data in obbys which would contribute to people coming back but, again, it gets to the point where they become bored of it and stop playing.

Almost every single time obbys are either those brightly colored “10000 LEVELS CAN U BEAT?!?” games or those “Escape from EVIL GRANNY!” games. In both cases it’s just (mostly) just copied games with thousands of gamepasses. In the scenario that it is neither, it’s usually barely classified as an obby. Parkour by huzell is a good example (which I love).

There’s only like 2-3 of those barely obbys that are made well and have a playerbase, so the overall rating is bad.

I’d say almost every single obby game is complete garbage, and in those rare neither cases, most of those either have no playerbase or are incomplete/poorly made. I’d just round down in this case and say all of em’ are crap at this point.

Obbies used to be really popular and I really enjoyed. I just think that with the complex and advanced nature of games on roblox now, obbies don’t have a big place. They would need to adapt to the direction roblox is moving in. I’ve seen a few obby games that are more than just jump around.

I reckon obbies are good games to relax. I remember playing obbies since 2012 till today. This can be weird for some people because others found obbies are hard and people might get annoyed or angry, because of failing them.

From a developers stand point an obby is a really good first game to make as they aren’t too difficult to make and they teach you the skills to make more complex games. A basic obby only needs a basic level of scripting and building knowledge and is possible to make in a couple of days.

As a player I don’t think the generic obby, like the 1000 stage obby games, do that well anymore because there are far better games to play. Plus who wants to spend hours trying to get though an overly massive obstacle course with extremely repetitive gameplay. These sorts of obbys nearly always look like they have been put together with tons of free assets and unnecessary objects put around.

An obby doesn’t have to be a huge course with thousands of stages. Instead there are games out there that take the generic obby structure but put a unique and fun twist on it. For example there are a few popular games that do exactly this:
https://www.roblox.com/games/206640076/Deathrun
https://www.roblox.com/games/738339342/Flood-Escape-2
https://www.roblox.com/games/1962086868/Tower-of-Hell?refPageId=9f24bff0-648c-4661-884b-76cdef21048f

I think if you make an obby like the games I mentioned above I could see it working out and you getting some sort of player base. I would happily play the obbys I mentioned above. However I wouldn’t play the generic 1000+ stage obby game because I find them too repetitive and boring.

I personnaly think obbys are a waste of time, unless you build one which users are interested in, maybe like the new obby era.

Obbies are good depending on how it is implemented imo, if its just obstacles splattered around with a goofy skybox, thats just trashy imo.
Some good examples of obby games that I personally like are things like tower of hell and obby king, they both got their unique twist to them which is what makes those obbies enjoyable enough for people to come back

Obbies are fun and challenging!

Most obbies are REALLY BAD. Only stuff like Tower of Hell gets through. Because those kind of obbies are unique and creative.
