Announcing Free Badge Creations!

Literally awesome. The 100 robux badge creation was such a bad feature, but now we can finally upload badges for free!

AWESOME UPDATE! One question me and my sister had however: Do you get refunded 5 badges that you previously bought before the update? And if there’s a daily limit, would it just refund 5 a day?

I agree. Having to pay 20 :robux_gold: for each voiceline is just so much robux and forces me to have text dialogue instead of audio, which isn’t very immersive for my experiences. I agree with you, and they should think about that next.

I’ve never tried to upload any audios because I knew they were expensive, but it should definitely be changed to be free to upload, as audio is one of the most important parts of a Roblox experience.

Games will now be able to add 1000+ badges now… if you get 5 free badges for each game daily…
You don’t feel as much achievement if you receive a badge that was created for free as opposed to one that costed robux - I’m not saying 100 robux was a cheap price for a badge, I’m just saying it shouldn’t have been set to “free”.

But that doesn’t change anything. It only affects the game developer, for example, not really the badge collector. I do get your point, though, that it feels more rewarding to get a badge that cost 100 Robux because it can give you a sense of value compared to a badge which was created for free.

There are already multiple games that did this before this update. It’s been a common occurrence for years.

Not true, and players won’t be able to tell which badges in a game were created for free unless it’s advertised.

A group I’m in, Badgers of Robloxia, has made a game with 10k+ badges with over 500 games, running a bot on ALT accounts that make 5 badges every day in multiple games. (Yes square badges)

Here’s the game Badge Chain Hub - Roblox

You can look that there’s square badges too, lol. It takes about 2 hours to get the 12.9k badges, if you’re wondering. You have to rejoin every day for the new ones though.

We definitely need a refund feature too. In the badge collecting community over 3 million robux was spent on making badges! If Roblox was able to refund shirt creators, why not refund badge creators? The main badge games that definitely need refunds are Reginalds, Manner’s, and Ender’s! They all spent so much robux on badges just for them to be free some years later. Please tell me, can Roblox just check the date of the badges and refund them? The free badge thing started two days before this message.

An OG badge collector, who doesn’t want to be named, gave a perfect example which I will quote down below

“Hi all, I haven’t logged on in over a week. I saw the changes to badges. This is so disappointing. I think this finally ruined badges for me. I know many enjoy this update, and I can see this is great. But look at it this way. Your favourite potato chip store has a few customers, and one day you go in before midnight and buy 3 bags. The guy behind you gets 1 but you turn back to see the cashier saying all bags of chips are now free for everyone. People rush into the store and take bag after bag, an influx of customers that have walked by the store thinking the chips are too expensive never wanting to buy any. Now you feel upset because you’ve spent hundreds of dollars on chips over the years.”

Sorry if this is too much in a message, just wanted to post my opinion on this.

I’m not particularly against the refund idea, but it’s just a terrible idea to spend millions of Robux for a badge walk. Good luck trying to make that amount back from the game.

Not really. Badges aren’t 100% free, you still need to pay 100 robux for each badge after the first 5 each day.

Users choose to spend money to create badges, and that’s the sole reason why there most likely won’t be a refund; people chose to spend money.

As it stands right now, the only change this update has made is users can create 5 free badges once per day. Badges themselves as a whole aren’t free, you’re just given 5 free ones every 24 hours.

The achievement you feel should be based on how hard the badge was to get. Let’s say there’s a badge for getting a million kills in a shooter game. Obviously, that’s quite the goal and you should feel achieved obtaining it, regardless of whether it costs 100 robux, 10 robux, or 0 robux.

This is a nice feature, and a way to encourage more badges inside experiences!

After years, it has come. I thank whoever made this decision a ton.

I don’t think people make 5 badges in 1 game. Even if they did, its not a problem since 24 hours aren’t that much of time to wait considering you can make 20 badges in 4 days.

I feel like it should be 5 free badges in total rather than 5 free badges for a game per day
The initial investment to make them cost a little made it so that they couldn’t easily bloat up the badges being handed out. Speaking of, badges as a system still feel fairly neglected (no way to show specific badges you’re proud of on your profile for instance without constantly deleting newly obtained badges)

Hopefully, I think paying 20 Robux for a 1 second sound is bad.

As a developer myself, this is a great change to badges that will help me and every single developer on Roblox. But, I also look over the perspective of badge collectors. I get it that it may not feel as “rewarding” to get a free badge, but …

  1. You will not even notice whether it’s free or not;
  2. All in all, this change should not be effecting badge collectors, but rather provides a better solution to developers who create games for you badge collectors to play.
