We have some exciting news to share with you. Starting today, you will be allowed to create five badges a day for FREE, for each of your experiences!
Previously, each badge creation cost 100 Robux, which was originally set to cover internal cost. However, this does not align with our long-term vision of making creation on Roblox frictionless. Also, it poses unnecessary hurdles for Groups by requiring an initial fund before generating any revenue. We’ve heard your feedback and decided to address the pain points while not overwhelming our internal systems.
With this launch, each experience can enjoy:
The first five badges in a 24-hour period (GMT) cost 0 Robux (FREE!)
Badges created after the fifth one in a 24-hour period will cost the original price (100 Robux) each.
Every 24 hours, the limit will be reset, and another five badges will be allowed to be created for zero Robux.
You can do this both on Roblox.com and within Studio (Game Settings / Monetization / Badges / Create).
Again, our goal is to minimize the friction for developers trying to make and utilize cool achievements in their experiences, and we are proud to offer a systematic solution to provide this ability.
Overall, we hope this lowers the barrier of entry for folks to start using badges in their experiences! To get started, go to the website to create your first free badge!
This is incredibly big news. Badges are a great way to reward achievements in experiences that players can show off on their profiles (even if it may not be a highly viewed corner, it’s still a great way for word-of-mouth). This changes the playing field entirely by making a great system accessible to developers without initial capital.
Badges are additionally really helpful for cross-experience rewards as well. Developers can create and collaborate on experiences where you gain rewards from having achievements in another. Without access to badges, we need to settle for DataStore solutions which would only work for the current experience.
I’m excited to be able to find a reason to incorporate more achievements via badges into the experiences I’m developing for. It’s sort of something I avoided and only made them if I absolutely felt a need to do so and typically that case was never because of the price gate. Achievement hunting is fun as it is.
Hopefully we’ll get better badge displays in the future if Roblox is paying attention to them, such as pinning badges of our choice.
This is actually a great change to the already existing 100R$ per badge rule, but I still do not understand why this was a thing in the first place.
Badges were free prior to this, and why it went up to 100R$, the same amount to create a group with much more use and purpose, is still a mystery to me
This is a great change!! Will make it a lot easier for me to create my experiences. I do have a question, will this apply to sounds in the future as well?
Love this! My only concern is badges not being as “Rare”. If they are more common, they may become less of a motive for players to hunt them. In turn, I could envision this hurting some games, especially the “Find the badge” games.
However, this probably will only positively benefit developers. The players might not notice the difference.
I don’t think this will affect the rarity? It will just allow for developers to make even more badges and will give more opportunities for badges to be awarded to players. Previously, I wouldn’t of wanted to create that many badges as it is quite expensive so this will allow for me and a ton of other developers to create badges without needing to worry about spending a ton of robux on badges
I actually dont know the technical reason why a 100R$ still needs to exist after a set amount of badges. Is there some overhead on the servers for badges?
Also all the people who wasted 100,000R$ on those badge games are trolled now.
This is an amazing update, was just complaining to myself on the fact that I’d in theory need hundreds of Robux just to create all the badges needed for my experience.
Now the only fee we pay before getting our experiences online is audio fees which I hope get addressed in the future. And as for badges, we still have no way to reorganise badges. But other than that, couldn’t be happier with this update.
