Blender Mesh losing faces when imported

  • What are you attempting to achieve? (Keep it simple and clear)
A sword that isn’t messed up.

  • What is the issue? (Keep it simple and clear - Include screenshots/videos/GIFs if possible)
When exported into roblox, it loses some faces.

  • What solutions have you tried so far? (Have you searched for solutions through the Roblox Wiki yet?)
I looked at a couple of articles on blender exports and non of them helped. I also tried exporting different types of meshes in e.g. fbx, wavefront etc.

Here are the photos:

Any ideas?

It looks like your normals are facing inward instead of outward. Every face on a 3D model can only be seen from one side and not the other, and in your case the faces on the blade and handle of the sword are all facing in when they should be facing out.

If you go into edit mode while the model is selected and press Ctrl+Shift+N, it will recalculate the normals and hopefully reorient them. To make sure the normals are in the proper direction, you can go to the overlay menu dropdown in the top right corner of the viewport and select “Display normals as lines” as seen here:

Enabling the normals display generates blue lines that extend outward from the surface of the face and indicate the direction the normal is facing, as seen here:

If recalculating the normals for the whole mesh doesn’t fix it, I would recommend selecting only the offending faces (i.e. the blade and handle) and recalculating the normals again only for that specific part of the mesh. When entering the hotkey, a small dialogue appears in the bottom left corner that allows you to change the direction of the normals for the selected faces:

normals

By checking and unchecking the box, you can determine which direction is proper (unchecked should fix your issue) and when you re-import it into Blender, it should appear as intended.

Thanks a lot! You must be a blender super pro! I found out that by un-ticking the box that says “Inside” in the normal thing, it made them work! Thanks once again!
