Building the Future of Roblox Home and Search: Introducing Personalized Discovery

As just about everyone has said, the updates to the home page aren’t adding much to the majority of the playerbase, besides annoyance, as I for one, almost only ever use “continue”, “favorites”, or joining my friends, I rarely, if ever, actually use the recommended, and having to scroll past them to get to continue is just super annoying, and a rather poor design.

Having a recommended section would be fine as long as it’s ordered so friends, continue, and favorites are always above them, there’s no reason to clutter the most used area, forcing players to look at games experiences that are either copy paste reskinned, extremely low effort, or straight up not even related to the style the player wants.

Also, if this is a mission for Discovery, why drag the home page into this? why not create a “Discover” page, similar to what the “Charts” page used to be? It would keep the random stuff off of the home page, while still giving it to the people who actually want/care about it

How do changes like this get approved yet alone have resources wasted on them to be developed. Someone, no, multiple people at Roblox actually looked at the already disorienting home menu and decided to make it even more disorienting by having it “dynamically” move around? To see your favorites, you have to scroll to the bottom of the page for goodness’ sake! What’s next? An empty screen that randomly shows you a game every 4 seconds based off “user interaction”? This is getting so ridiculous.

No thanks. I dislike the majority of Roblox games and the bright thumbnails. I use a script to only display my recently played and favorites and I don’t want the tabs switching around as that will break it.

Out of curiosity, what extensions allow you to do this? I would love to rearrange stuff.

Oh, It’s AI slop…

My friend got the sponsored tab at the top which should be that relevant to NO ONE. NO ONE. All we saw on that tab is slop. He only plays specific types of games yet his recommended tab is all over the place. Same for me.

Why not just let us move it around ourselves??? I want the continue and favorites tab to be displayed at the top.

Unrelated to this new discovery feature, more related to discovery, I feel like the reccommendation system would be wayyy better if it was based (more) on user-input rather than automation. (Something Roblox is always trying to automate everything for whatever reason)

“Not interested in this content,” “Interested in this content,” “Refresh Recommendations,” and “Refresh Algorithm” (disregard all former selections) buttons would be VERY useful for finding the type of games you want to play, it would also help users curate and discover content they like which is literally your goal, as stated in the post.

Yes, there should be a category for newly released games, but I see some slight problems with this. Condos + Starter Places. Does new games count as private games made public, or would there be a seperate advertize button to use this? What if you’re trying to test with a non-friend? What if you first publish the game as public?

I would just prefer if my Recent and Favorite games were at the top.

Personalized discovery? Pretty misleading. Nothing about this is personalized. Everything is about maximizing engagement and revenue.

Maybe a point could be made if we ourselves could actually customize what game groups we see along with the actual games we see and get. We still don’t even have the ability to sort games by genre. Let alone price, player counts and whatever else metrics.

Can we keep the continue page at the top for once

Dude calm down. The recommended for you is a huge plus to the platform that it desperately needed the chart list would be 100x worse without it. Really I don’t think the home page should get more complicated and should be primarly left how it is.

Adding accessory items to it will BE COMPLTETLY CONFUSING. Its for thumbnails and game search not mass bloating

Todays picks ia a joke though…

Roblox please DO NOT do this. Combining different types of media in one homepage / discover page annoys me so much. I hate seeing YouTube Shorts on Home when there is a separate Shorts Tab just like how Roblox has a separate Avatar Tab so avatar items shouldn’t show up on the Discover / Charts page. Not only that but there are already avatar shop games that show up so i feel like we really don’t need rows just for avatar items

this feels like a very convoluted answer for a simple problem

Exactly. I don’t understand how this is so difficult for Roblox engineers to understand: there was nothing wrong with what the homepage used to be. It just feels like at this point they’ve run out of things to improve upon but keep trying to find things to tinker.

“RoSeal” lets you do it and has tons of customization options

…Ooooor, allow us to sort them however we want.

I can’t stress enough to PLEASE make an option to hide sorts/rows. I do not care about other rows besides 1. my continue, and 2. my favorites. While this might not be the configuration everyone wants, many others have expressed a similar opinion.

I personally use an adblocker to remove unwanted and, frankly, invasive rows. No one wants a cluttered home page.

I don’t see why a recently visited section in the search bar is necessary. The home page should be the reliable way to find recently played games, assuming it wasn’t full of junk.

That’s not to say, however, that the game you are searching for shouldn’t appear and be playable from one click in a search result.

i feel tired of waiting these visual changes to come only for them to not show up in the current release. hope they become true in future versions!

I use the web version of the site. This update has changed the size of the experience icons: they are now larger, and fewer items appear in a row. Previously, you could see up to nine or more experiences, allowing for a wider selection. Despite this, I think these changes can have a positive impact on the future of the platform—the “Charts” page now displays higher-quality experiences, and the amount of random content has been reduced.

However, I am disappointed with the recommendation algorithm based on my visits. The “Recommended For You” tab suggests experiences that do not match my interests and that I would likely never join:

The platform’s personalization algorithm still requires significant rework, even with the investments already made to enhance its performance. Continuing to allocate resources toward this improvement is essential for future success.

I dont know if it’s as a result of these changes, or something else recently, but searching “moba” now actually surfaces my game second now. Thats a change of magnitude by 100, as it appeared after several scrolls. I’ve only seen that recently happen.

Avatar headshot icons overlap with experience names sometimes (I believe it happens when the experience name is long and if multiple players are playing an experience). We can’t catch a break with these UI bugs, can we?

I don’t think this is a bad update, but I can see why users are upset since I think it can make or break engagement.

Why not keep the default layout as it was before and introduce a customization feature where users can sort and arrange sections how they prefer?
