Creator Roadmap 2025: Spring Update

Do you think we can settle on “so far” for grammatical correctness?

Yeah, that’s probably the correct phrase.

Is it just me or is avatar settings just straight up gone from the roadmap now?? This was the feature I wanted the most on it, and now it’s suddenly just gone with no clarification as to why or even announcing its removal.

This is what used to be there before. It’s suddenly nowhere to be found.

What the hell… That actually happens??

Yeah… almost as if it actually pains them to do that… 7 years…

while this is really awesome, its really underwhelming for a increase in light range - i was really hoping for a larger increase of something like 240 or more.

while i don’t know much about how the range of a light effects performance impact, i do wish that the light range limit could be lifted to something like 1000 or gone entirely, being able to have lights with this much range would unlock so many more possibilities.

if the problem is performance - i doubt that people would set their lights to large ranges for that reason, but having the option to go big with lights would be a really cool.

is this meaning smaller voxels? if so that would be a nice addition, because its annoying when light leaks through parts with the current size of voxels:

if this is an increase in the amount of voxels, would it just be an increase from 4x4x4 to 2x2x2 voxels, or more maybe?
and if its something else that’s being changed with voxels, will this light leaking finally be fixed?

i also recall from a little while ago when unified lighting was announced, Improved light attenuation was mentioned alongside the light range limit increase in that post, is there any info about this / any approximate time this may be implemented?

Looking good, excited to test these features out once they’re released.

What does that mean? like add a something like Rollback netcode or something similar for humanoid?

When are we actually going to have visually improving features? like custom grass/foliage and decoration, dynamic clouds, interactive water, maybe even a skybox system improvement? Who is asking for a bunch of this stuff like:

  • Community-created learning content (Mid 2025 → Late 2025)
  • Properties revamp (Early 2025 → Late 2025)
  • Photo to avatar (Early 2025 → Mid/Late 2025)
  • Badges Enhancements (Late 2024 → Late 2025)

Who is asking for this stuff above, We really need robust visual features in the engine not just backend optimisations, we need new and improved features that can bring games to life.

Is it just me that thinks this or what?

Yeah, although this picture is from 2023 it did indeed happen when you ran out of vram, I cant repro this anymore because at the time I had a GTX 970, now I got a RTX 4070.

I just tried testing myself though the only thing i experienced was degraded performance. Perhaps the issue has been fixed? I do know that similar issues do happen in games like Forza Horizon 5 and The last of us part 2 but did not expect that to be the case with roblox.

FINALLY!

I can’t believe Server Authority is finally coming out, I’m so excited I might explode, then implode and re-explode.

Thank you roblox!

This is for their Aurora project they’ve been working on behind the scenes, which includes rollback netcode. There will be a new script called an AuroraScript and two new services: AuroraService & AuroraScriptService

It’s really disappointing like REALLY disappointing. With the wording that they put in things like the Fluid and Physics update alongside the Voxel lighting grid I would at least expect a new lighting engine or some new terrain water that actually looked good.

I’m looking forward to root motion possibly coming with the new character controllers too since it’s been a property for such a long time but nothing has been said about it even when tons of people have been asking around about it. Roblox as a whole is pretty much completely outdated on a lot of things. Skybox, lights, Clouds, Volumetric Lighting, Motion Blur, Chromatic aberration and so much more stuff that should have been added in years ago. For some reason clouds have been paused for a long while now. I’m assuming they’re busy working on things that won’t make Roblox look better.

I have already mentioned this in another announcement and, like other users, I would like to reiterate and thank you. Thank you for working on something native where the server controls the character.

We have some means of protecting characters from exploiters, but it doesn’t seem as fluid as we would like. It would be nice to know that the character on the client simply tries to “request” movement from the server and the server controls it. I know that fluidity is important on the client, but it would be much better if it were treated as a request rather than an order, since the character’s NetworkOwner belongs to the client.

Today, we can create a system where the character’s NetworkOwner belongs to the server, but this removes the character’s fluidity, because natively we only have these 2 options, either the NetworkOwner belongs to one or the other (client or server). What I imagine we need is a client controlling the character fluidly, but making requests for its real model to go through its requests and the server to validate them.

Thanks again for bringing this functionality to us. Developers have been struggling with exploiters flying, teleporting, and abusing Touch events for years, and we hope this will address some or all of those issues.
