Creator Roadmap: Spring 2024 Edition

Leaked documents from 2022 show that they were planning to kill it entirely several quarters ago. Now, obviously, with this being Roblox, updates have a tendency for delays. Unfortunately it therefore tracks that the removal is likely to be announced in the coming weeks and months.

Phase 2 of volumetric clouds?

Yeah, but I want the full R6, not R15, and no hybrid crap, dude. Yā€™all donā€™t seem to get that apparently.

Does this apply to PS5 controller support as well?

Hell yeahhhhh! Finally we can write Luau code that almost matches the performance of properly written C++ code, that would be awesome and really good for CPU-intensive math and algorithms.

As cool as this sounds, I hope this is an optional tool just for people that want to convert their games.

Kindly do not deprecate R6, for me itā€™s a stylistic choice and I want to keep using it.
Please tell me the R6 emulator is working at least.

Good stuff. Are server authoritative systems being looked at internally yet?

Hi

Is there more info available on the native CPU code generation?
What speedup can we expect?
Is it fully automated? (No manual process on our part)
For both client and server side?

Thanks

It was in RigidConstraint for a bit, never got enabled, and then the properties for breakable welds got taken out around 2 years ago. Just another update roblox shoves under the rug to never be heard of again.

Dear, Roblox Staff

Iā€™m eager to find out if thereā€™s a new event in the works following The Hunt: First Edition. With all the buzz from YouTubers sharing their takes, itā€™s left me feeling a bit puzzled. Some seem to be stretching the truth, and distinguishing fact from fiction has become quite the challenge.

Thank you for responding!!

Did yā€™all forgot about FPS Unlocker that was supposed to be added on Roblox?

I have said this before on other posts, but I feel if they would put as much effort in fixing existing features and fleshing out features that are lacking things that were promised or showcased, it would go a long way to help developers make the games they want to make. Why, years after mesh parts have been released, do I still have to use special meshes? Its because they didnā€™t try to fully understand what special meshes were being used for, and make sure mesh parts could replace them.

Seeing this on a the list of delayed features is extremely disappointing. Would of loved to see this change roll out ASAP so this is crushing.

Yep. I mean, weā€™re all used to it by now, but the engine still has no idea how to layer transparent objects on top of each other, or to not give you night vision if you look in a dark room through a particle effect.

Honestly i think roblox is doing decently enough (could be a little more stuff if its just all minor things tbh), though i just think theire focusing on anything but the engine. Thereā€™s a couple of new things to the roadmap (specifically under ā€œEngine can support any type of experienceā€) though sadly first half of these things are relatively minor with the second half being useless for a good chunk of developers (most developers already do have some sort of draggable ui system and most developers dont really work with VR. Iā€™m still taking the VR stuff though so thats a W).
Thereā€™s some other stuff in the other sections though again everything is pretty minor. A memory store enhancement for example is pretty minor though personally ill take that all day any day.

Though yea, iā€™m still waiting for the day in which the creator roadmap is primarily populated by fancy engine features (along with expansions of older ones)

Regarding the deprecation of R6, I made a post a while back explaining how everything is going to be fine, and that, yes, R6 games can continue to operate as if nothing happened. I know thereā€™s a negative stigmatism surrounding Robloxā€™s actions on their past, but they would never completely get rid of R6.

Really excited for all the improvements to Studio, the engine, and what not. However I do have a few concerns and questions:

  • Will R6 be completely wiped off the platform from its current state?
ā€“ To my knowledge, it wonā€™t but if it does, how will the new ā€œR15ā€ converted version work? Will it be exactly the same (in terms of physics)? Or will there be noticeable differences?

  • Iā€™ve seen other people mention this, but how drastic is the ā€œStudio UIā€ change going to be?
ā€“ Will it look like an entirely different program? Will there be a way to revert back if (depending on the userā€™s choice)?

  • What ever happened to the whole Humanoid physics changes?
ā€“ To be clearer, I think it was called ā€œHumanoid Controllersā€, or something along those lines. Maybe Iā€™m blind, but I donā€™t see it anywhere in the Delayed section.

  • My final concern(s) are about the pure number of delayed features. Iā€™m not trying to sound negative, but itā€™s really disappointing to see over 20 features that just havenā€™t made it into play. Iā€™d like to know why, or even just what features are closer to being done than others, almost like a graph.

Thatā€™s all I really have to say. Like Iā€™ve stated above, Iā€™m super excited for the upcoming features, but I feel that Iā€™m more concerned than optimistic.

As always, cheers!

There needs to be a fix for body parts clipping through walls and stuff. Really needed in the FPS community

Will there be debugging tools to detect this happening?

They keep delaying this, itā€™s really frustrating and unfortunate especially considering their lack of care when it comes to acknowledging reports and doing ban waves themselves.

Still no layerable SurfaceAppearances.

Come on Roblox, Iā€™ve been asking for years! This is REALLY important.
