While this sounds nice in theory, what would stop a group owner from purchasing many of them at cost, then selling them on a black market to their game/group fans? It sounds ripe for abuse.
YouTube operates an automated store which limits you to a certain number, past that requiring approval.
The games that will be rewarded these, by nature of the thresholds, will be huge. I donât think youâll get that far on Roblox if youâre the kind of person to sell a reward with your studio name on.
Plus, what does it matter if a handful get sold black market? The only person that sucks for is the studio owner. I doubt Roblox have a vested interest in keeping them exclusive beyond their diligence done when providing them.
Hello there,
I have questions.
- For example, if we havenât reached 10 + M hours for the golden crown, can we get the rewards later (2-3 months later)?
- Will non-US residents be able to take gifts like the âSwag Bagâ?
Thanks,
@dikyar9
Roblox will check every quarter of a year, or Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, July-Sep, Oct-Dec. If your game hits a milestone during one of the quarters youâll get notified when the next quarter begins.
Roblox has made these incredibly rare in the grand scheme of the Roblox developer base. This is likely due to exclusivity because of them having to run a program for this takes up employee time. Of course employees will be tasked with this as their job - but Roblox wouldnât take too kindly to finding out the extra copies they had to make went to be sold on the black market making the developer profit off their work in logistics management. If it was simply against the rules entirely that may be enough to solve it. Iâm playing devils advocate.
Yeah I get that completely. YouTube have banned people from the reward program who sell their awards previously. A rule and a limit per month would probably prevent it for the most part. I am sure there are extra steps that could be taken on the platform side (auto checking groups? not sure exactly what.)
I have seen people offering to sell the swag bags from previous reward tier - I wouldnât dream of selling mine but people are doing it.
I guess Iâm just trying to find a mostly-ideal solution to a sticky problem. Iâd love to hear if anyone has any other ideas for this.
Iâm unable to do this easily as my game is a universe with a couple dozen places within it - but thatâs neither here nor there.
Does this calculation factor in subplaces for a gameâs total playtime?
Sad only the very owner gets one, tons of studios & teams consists of 2 different owners/creators. Often 1 is displayed as âCo-Ownerâ or âCo-Creatorâ simply because Roblox only allows 1 group owner.
A limit per month may not work with Robloxâs vision of a 100 person studio, unless the limit is 100! As seen in Roblox Developer Conference 2019
Either way, as a studio leader I also want remote workers to receive something out of this, as a central office is not practical with our lifestyles at the moment.
i wish i could participate but hey maybe Iâll get a comment from asimo
Yeah I understand theyâre future proofing all of these - we can see that from the 1B MAU crown (last I checked adopt me and a lot of players but not 1/7 of the world.) The future will absolutely be actual studio offices, but currently Iâm in the UK, our studio lead is central US and we have team in Thailand and on east and west coast. I just think it would nice for everyone to be able to have one instead of just the leadâs home office.
This is ridiculous. Our game has about 65M visits, and we are on track to be over the 10M hours by the end of May. Iâm the owner, but why do the other 2 developers not get rewarded for the accomplishment as well? I canât imagine these are so hard to produce that 2 extras canât be sent out. I understand that teams of 10-20 people start becoming crazy, but the owner should be allowed to choose at least a few of the developers to earn it as well, in the same way that we select developers to receive digital rewards from participating in events.
I really hope this policy can be amended, itâs a cool reward.
This is REALLY cool!
It would be great if developers could check their total playtime hours without downloading over 30 spreadsheet files and manually adding it up
Another way that doesnât involve downloading the game stats sheets is to go to https://create.roblox.com/ and go to Developer Stats, just scrolling down to the bottom and grabbing the data table there with visits + average visit length and just multiplying and summing it all up.
Still a bit of a process thoughâŚ
sheeeeeeshhhh
that hoodie and cap from the goodie bag look
Iâm from Europe and my gameâs other owner is from Asia, both of us got the swag bag, so itâs possible for non-US people to get them.
Iâm wondering, how should I add up my total playtime if my game is universal (multiple places)? Iâm not exactly sure how to calculate my stats accurately. My start place has an average playtime of <1 minute, while places in my game hang around 10-20 minutes.
The only way I can think of doing this is by adding up the stats only some of us are provided with PlayFab, but then it might be limited since we only have that data for about half a year. How would developers who arenât in this program with several places in their game do this?
This is why we donât deserve nice things. Are you serious? YouTube, who is most known for a rewards program similar with the play buttons, also only gives one per channel. You should check out Phase 1 and 2, which both reward multiple individuals on your team. Letâs celebrate Roblox trying to award our accomplishments, rather than diminish Roblox because our wants arenât satisfied.
EDIT: I understand there is a use case for having multiple trophies. This was a frustration post due to the way the thread I replied to was worded. Developer Awards have been a very big ask for a long time so to see them come to fruition is exciting. LowPolyâs and I have discussed via DMâs and I apologized for the aggression in my post.
As others have pointed out, YouTube allows creators to purchase more than one play button for their team/replacements with approval. Is that too much to ask?
Im assuming itâs plastic⌠Even though 10M playhours is a LOT, I doubt roblox would be as careful as to ensure that these things are top quality.
