Hello,
My friend Furno58 was the 16th of December permanently terminated. The reasoning for this ban was
“You created or used an account to avoid an enforcement action against another account”.
i.e ban evading
My friend furno58 does, in fact, own multiple alts, none of which have been banned in their entire existence, nor have they been used in the last year. BUT my friend Furno regularly uses a VPN, and we believe the new roblox AI anti-ban-evading system has flagged his VPN IP to someone else using the same VPN (who has a banned account).
My friend Furno has been on roblox since 2013, developed many games, owned many communities, and contributed to thousands of visits. Upon appealing the decision, he was met with the standard AI response saying the appeal is denied.
It is completely beyond our understanding why he was banned, nor do we understand how this system is meant to benefit the platform, as it’s most likely to have caused hundreds of thousands of false positives.
My circumstance is that one of my alternative accounts was terminated for the exact same reason. I have not logged into that specific account for several weeks before logging in recently to find it terminated. I do not think I or anybody else in the same household could have done something to warrant an enforcement action ban.
I do recall that the same account was compromised last month but I was able to regain control of my account. Perhaps that account hacker got terminated and for some reason moderation flagged my alternative account as being in the same household as the hacker? None of my other alternative accounts or this one has been affected, thankfully.
I really do not know, but this is quite unacceptable and I really hope we can have a human moderator intervene to fix this issue.
I already submitted an appeal request to the team but I have yet to receive a response. Another option is to possibly reach out to a moderator here on the Developer Forum. It is better than nothing.
Interestingly enough, Furno58 was also compromised in June 2024. Perhaps it’s like you said, the hacker got banned recently, and therefore, roblox Chat-GPT moderation made the connection.
It’s really unfortunate because it’s either a false flag, which is pathetic it’s happening to begin with, or some staff member at Roblox has some personal issue with you and used that as an excuse to ban you.
It’s really amazing (in a sad sort of way) how Roblox continuously neglects their flawed and dysfunctional moderation system, and they will continue to do so because they genuinely don’t care about developers or users as individuals.
I think there seems to be a ban wave, actually. I’ve been looking online and an overwhelming amount of people get terminated for the exact same reason.
For some odd reasons, Roblox believes that entrusting an AI with the ability to TERMINATE accounts before going through manual reviewing is a good idea.
I do not even complain about the fact that they use AI to some extent for moderation, as it makes sense they would need to reduce the amount of traffic in their system for the support staff to be able to handle the moderation. Having an AI do 1 to 3 day bans would make sense in many cases.
But TERMINATING accounts with thousands of hours worth of work?
I have over 4000 hours of development gone, and multiple hundreds of euros worth of Robux that I’ve saved up from being commissioned (for future projects), all gone because of an AI that CLEARLY does not work has decided that I should be terminated.
How should developers feel about it, when for some of them, the platform they make a living off of could just terminate them?
How could people interested by this platform EVER commit to it, when they see all the people that get falsely banned?
And to top it off, you wait 3 days to receive a response from the support team, which ends up just being an automatic response that everyone else also gets.
I quit developing on this platform a while ago, and I’ve already backed up my important work because I don’t know if I’ll randomly get banned one day.
Quite a few times I’ve logged into a random warning pertaining to some asset they refuse to even tell me about or why it broke the rules. I’ve had its AI think some harmless image is bad and it gets moderated. Roblox really is a joke
That could explain why our accounts were terminated under a false pretense.
Roblox is relying too heavily on AI to do the moderation work for them. If Roblox truly did grant AI permission to terminate accounts, it is quite baffling as to why they signed off on such a decision, given the current AI’s poor reliability. Shockingly, it appears that Roblox has done little to implement a solution despite strong criticism from the developers and community.
Not to mention furno58 runs one of the only french development communities and has a youtube channel teaching french people how to script that has amassed hundreds of thousands of views, yet somehow roblox ChatGPT won’t tell him what account he’s ban evading with?
Stumbled upon this thread and had to chime in—it’s alarming how Roblox’s new AI anti-ban system is flagging long-time creators like this lad over something as innocuous as VPN use. A user since 2013 with clean alts, game dev contributions, and thousands of visits getting perma-banned for “evasion” feels like a massive overreach.
Widespread VPN False Positives
This isn’t isolated; forums are flooded with similar cases where shared VPN IPs trigger bans, even for accounts with zero prior issues or inactive alts. Legit privacy tools like ProtonVPN or Mullvad get lumped in with actual evasion because the system doesn’t differentiate shared pools from deliberate dodging—leading to false positives that hit veterans hardest.
Systemic Moderation Flaws
Automated appeals spitting out denials without nuance ignores key signals like account age, positive contributions, and lack of exploits. Roblox risks alienating its core developer base by not weighting these properly, turning a safety net into a dragnet.
Path Forward
Human review for edge cases like this is crucial—reinstate based on history, refine the AI to handle VPNs better (maybe via whitelists or multi-factor checks), and communicate transparently. Hope Roblox staff sees the pattern and acts; the platform thrives on creators like this one.
Lifting this cause is not useless, we need to voice our concerns to roblox about this system, which most likely causes hundreds of thousands of false terminations.
There are more established members getting banned by this, and roblox only appeals the termination if you manage to get in contact with a human moderator, which few people manage.
The mix of AI moderation and AI appeals makes no sense, and we should urge for a rollback nevertheless.
The ironic part of all this, is that they are using AI to reduce the amount of human work for moderation. Yet, with the amount of false positives (due to letting AI terminate accounts), they are simply going to get a huge increase of support mails.
This moderation system benefits neither the community nor Roblox’s own moderation staff.
After ANOTHER 48 hours of waiting, I’ve received a new rejection message, the exact same automatic one they keep sending. Why are we waiting 48 hours for an automatic rejection, without even bothering to check what’s going on?
Another day, another rejection. After 3 responses, I still have 0 explanations of what I have done wrong. Basically, Roblox accuses you of doing something and punishes you, but you are not told what you’ve really done.
Therefore, I am trying to defend myself, while I do not even know what I’ve really done wrong in their eyes.
UPDATE 22nd Dec.
At this point, the interesting part will be to make a statistic of how many appeals it takes for them to actually read what the appeal in question says. Here is what I wrote in my last appeal submission, for reference:
Hello,
This enforcement is incorrect. I did not create or use any account to evade moderation, and the activity described was not performed by me.
I was using a VPN, which caused my account to share an IP address with other users. My account has been mistakenly identified as another user who was previously banned, resulting in a false ban-evasion action.
On a more serious note, if I didn’t live in a country fuelled by its orwellian police state, I would disable my VPN because of this. Sadly that’s not the case. If I disappear for saying this… it wasn’t an accident
At least you are getting some sort of response… It has been about a week since my last appeal and I have received absolutely no response. No human response nor automated response to my appeal. Even my original appeal on December 7 (16 days ago), I have had zero responses.
This already proves the point that this appeals process is a joke. I sincerely hope that you and everyone else falsely terminated has their issue absolved, but I would not place any sort of confidence in this joke of a system.
From what I understand, you are a lot more likely to get a human response if your appeal is in the “i was moderated for an asset” category, without putting any asset ID necessarily. Just explain the situation and wait, it’ll be a lot longer than the expected response time for the enforcement ban category however.
A lot of people get unbanned this way, because the people who moderate do understand your situation, whereas the AI simply seems to be rejecting everyone.
I’ve sent one appeal this way yesterday, I’ll make an update here if I ever get a response.
Do note that the moderation team is very small currently up until the 5th of January, so it may probably take 1 to 3 weeks before you get a human response.
ANOTHER alternative can be through DSA if you’re a European (Altough I believe people outside of Europe can also do it, maybe with a lower priority), I plan to do this as a last resort if my appeal still fails. It allows you to recover your account up to 6 months later, this is specified by Roblox here: https://en.help.roblox.com/hc/en-us/articles/13061336948244-EU-Digital-Services-Act
You can do this through a website called adroit.legal, you just file a form there I believe. From what I understand, lawyers will handle the rest for you.
