I agree that this will benefit developers, but won’t this put modelers out of work? I honestly believe these are generic enough to be used by developers, but while I’m in this position, I’m not going to pay $100 for a modeler when I already have these free assets from Roblox.
Looks like some incorrect vertex colors snuck their way in there. Fixed.
I think it’s a little upsetting that you choose to promote big companies rather than the people who use your platform. There are plenty of devs who wouldn’t pass up an opportunity like this.
The short answer is you wouldn’t.
In any realistic Roblox Game (or experience as they legally call it), you would create everything yourself, or collaborate with another user. These types of free models would ideally be meant to encourage a person to use their creativity to put things together and maybe give them the inspiration needed to start developing on their own. Alas, there is always the fact that many people try to release games using a ton of free models, to which that is another discussion on morality and ideals haha.
In the development community I’ve seen people who use free models be looked down upon, albeit that may be changing. It definitely assists people who want to make things easy and quick and that’s a good and bad thing. A lot more low effort games, but also a few well put together items. I can definitely see these kinds of things impacting the development community as more are released though. In which it really could hurt up-and-coming developers who are tyring to model and create their own game in which they can’t compete in quality of certain items.
The best part: It teaches multiple good building and modeling practices if people decide to dissect how these asset pacts were put together. Something I’d love to see more of.
Will there be more low poly and photoreal packs released in the future? I quite like that Roblox is committed to making sure developers have high quality 3D assets to use if they’re on a budget.
Finally a good city asset pack! I’ve always struggled in making cities, but now it’s 10x easier
these are excellent and i will be using them immediately, many thanks to you
Hi!
These asset packs are always useful. While I’m wary of using well-known free assets in final versions of my game, a diverse set of easily accesible, high quality assets is super useful for prototyping!
It’s really reassuring when the assets are distributed/vouched for by Roblox, since it ensures that there isn’t any malicious code hidden somewhere in the models or whatever. Very nice!
Thanks!
I agree, I would disgust myself if i were to use any freemodels
As much as I am absolutely grateful for such a nice asset pack, I can’t ignore the fact most big games will almost always reject free assets. Either way, building with it should be a new experience.
Hey!
Some people here might not be good at building (that’s my case). These packs are useful for non-builders.
Have a great day!
I’m having fun witht the city pack and at least this will allow me to be more creative when making city environments. But my question is will there be more of these asset packs?
Make sure to check out the other realistic city packs we released as well!
Several meshes in the bone pack appear to be a bit too… optimized? (I’m not sure if that’s the correct term)
The thin or small meshes are all jagged and pointed. I haven’t checked the other packs yet.
Edit: Yup, they all have it. Some also have a lighting bug. The one where it is most visible is the tree pack.
These assets look really good. Thank you for open-sourcing these.
These Packs are amazing! Although I found that the pavements are different shades.
Are they supposed to be like this?
Roblox, this is so INCREDIBLY USEFUL! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!
