Future Is Bright: Phase 2.5 Released

I have actually figured out a way to make dynamic clouds.
Here are 2 of my projects using Dynamic clouds!
Of course, they aren’t as great but I did what I could.

I may be late to say this, but this is amazing! I am looking forward to use this very soon myself!

I personally made it look better by using a color correction effect and setting contrast to .8

Do you have an update on this by chance? It’s been just under 2 months.

I’d like to know the status on the same issue as the above too, it causes really weird stuff when you have lots of trees

This is amazing! The feeling of object surfaces with this update are incredible! The ROBLOX engine is being worked on very well. :+1:

that looks laggy but rely Awesome

The reason why it doesn’t look good is because the skybox reflection doesn’t take into account shadows. The tree barks are in shadows, hence why their colour does not look right, as shadows eliminate light refraction.

It’s so weird seeing how far this platform has come since 2012. I remember the Terrain and lighting effects in 2014’s egg hunt being considered innovative, and here we are, with some of the most gorgeous effects I’ve had the pleasure to tinker with.

Wow! Looks a lot nicer now. I’ve been waiting for realistic light sources for a long time, and it’s nice to see the progress until that feature doesn’t come out. I’m also excited for the PBR material properties.

I love these updates so much, can’t wait for the next phase!

It’s great to see how far ROBLOX has come, I’m excited for phase 3. This looks super amazing though.

This is beautiful. This new feature will bring the quality roblox’s showcase to an entire new level of detail.

I can’t wait to see what many developers will do with it!!

It’s incredibly hard to render realtime, and looks nothing like this update imo. I doubt it’s coming anywhere near this decade.

Oh, ok then. But still, this is pretty close.

I did see a ray tracing demo in the 2020 Roblox hack week video, so maybe it’s not as far away as we think

Hack weeks usually don’t go very far, just keep that in mind.

Of course, but it just goes to show that this is possible for Roblox, and with the direction, other games are going in - like Minecraft - eventually Roblox will have no option but to develop it.

While it would be nice to have, ray tracing is horrendously expensive and requires a very high-end GPU to keep things playable, so I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for it to be implemented in Roblox anytime soon.

I’d say that’s only true if moore’s law continues going forward (because we definitely don’t have enough processing power in our PCs to run ray tracing smoothly), and roblox actually starts using the GPU. Ray/Path (they’re very different) tracing is literally impossible if most of the playerbase runs on intel I3’s with old graphics’ cards or intel graphics, and definitely not the best way to get convincingly looking pixels to your screen right now. Other diffculties include streaming all scene meshes to the GPU, rewriting algorithms for it, and trying to make sure it’s also possible with other platforms (talking about consoles here). To me, although it’s possible, it’s not very feasible right now. Will this change? probably, but not in the “near” future, considering our development in processing power right now.

Edit: It’s certainly pretty exciting to think about it, though
