Improvements to Publishing & Merchandising Bodies & Heads on Marketplace

Hi Creators,

Earlier this year, we announced a series of upcoming improvements to publishing and selling in Marketplace. Starting today, we are excited to roll out four new improvements that give creators more control over how their items and bundles are merchandized:

  1. Publishing Bodies & Heads from a Community

  2. Renaming Bodies & Heads

  3. Adding a skin color to Bodies

  4. Controlling scale presets on Bodies

Publish Bodies & Heads from a Community

Communities empower creators to collaborate, create, publish, and market avatars collectively, helping establish a professional presence beyond individual accounts. Starting today, we are closing an important gap in publishing by allowing Communities to publish Bodies and Heads on Marketplace.

After you have imported a Body or Head into Studio, here’s how to publish the bundle from a Community:

  • Navigate to Studio

  • Upload the Body, selecting “Save to Roblox” on the body bundle from your Workspace

  • Select the name of the Community:

Please note: You must be a member of the Community with permissions to Create avatar items in order to publish items for that Community.

Rename Bodies & Heads

Creators can now rename the Bodies and Heads that have already been published, giving creators more control over how their Bodies & Heads are displayed on Marketplace. Updating the name on the bundle will automatically impact the name on all the underlying parts of the bundle.

Here’s how it works:

  • Navigate to the Creator Dashboard > Creations > Avatar Items

  • Select the existing Body or Head

  • In the Creator Dashboard, the “Item Name” field will no longer be grayed out and you can rename your Bodies & Heads at any point - just as you can for clothing and accessories.

Add Skin Color to Bodies

Creators can also now add skin colors to Bodies, ensuring they appear as intended on Marketplace. Updating the skin color will impact how the Bodies are displayed in Marketplace, and users will be able to update the skin color to a color of their choosing after they purchase the bundle. Previously, Bodies appeared gray by default, with no ability to choose a color for selling on Marketplace.

After you have imported a Body into Studio, here’s how to add skin color:

  • Navigate to Studio

  • Click the + next to the name of the Body in Explorer

  • Click the BodyColors object. This will automatically make the arms and head yellow, the legs blue, and torso green.

  • Next, use the color picker under the BodyColors to update to the skin colors of your choosing – either using custom RGB values or the BrickColors.

We are updating the way recolorable Bodies appear in Marketplace to let users know which ones are recolorable, regardless of the skin color shown on Marketplace. Now, users shopping on Marketplace will see a skin color picker appear when selecting a body that has been detected as recolorable.

This skin color picker will appear when a body is tried on – allowing previewing of different skin tones before purchasing a body as well.

Creators that have previously published Bodies on Marketplace will have the ability to manually select which color they would like to be shown. If you have already published a Body on Marketplace and have not yet heard from us to manually select your color preference, please let us know in the comments below.

Control Scale Presets on Bodies

Creators can now use the RigScale presets to control the scale value on Bodies when they are published to Marketplace. Previously, the scale value was always set to use Rthro upon publication, which could distort the creator’s original intent

Here’s how to apply a scale preset as you are importing a body:

  • Navigate to Studio

  • Click Import 3D under Avatar in the Toolbar and select the file you would like to import

  • Next, open the Rig General menu

  • Select a preset under Rig Scale to adjust the scale that will be displayed with your body in Marketplace

  • The new scaling will ensure your Body looks the same on the Marketplace as it does in Studio

Is there plans to make the modesty layer rule less restrictive on bodies that allow 2D clothing?
ex: the time most animal bundles got deleted cuz of the modesty layer rule

This is the most exciting change for me as I despise the existence of different avatar scale types and the need to consider and choose between them, at least now the type chosen can accurately be represented

Awesome! Hopefully, this support can come out soon and have the same capability of selling through Roblox Communities too

Will there be support to move ownership of bundles already uploaded under an account to a community? I’d like to have mine under a community as it would be great for feedback.

So how do I change the skin color of my existing bundles? I don’t see this in Creator Hub anywhere.

Huge boosts, now I just need PBR for accessories and I can finish off an important bundle for my game’s avatar shop. I had to shelve it earlier because of the missing support for communities.

Wonderful update! Can’t wait to see what else is coming up :eyes:
scheduling… transparency… pbr… accessories in bundles…?

Thank you for this and thanks for letting us rename our bundles! There was no reason for that not to be possible until now

I’m incredibly grateful that features like this are introduced! Do you think the no Tattoo and makeup rule would be lifted anytime soon?

You should have received a message via DevForum asking for you to submit specific brickcolor / rgb colors alongside bundle ID’s you’d like updated, I believe they’ll reach out if you mention that you didn’t receive this message though

I second this, If this is possible in anyway that would be awesome.

Create your recolorable texture as normal. Then, just add BodyColors to your Avatar Model. (Add it under the model of your avatar, not under any body parts). Your done! BodyColors is mainly used for displaying a certain color on a recolorable bundled when it’s displayed on the marketplace. You can change the displayed colors in the properties of BodyColors. Let me know if you need anything else!

If your existing bundle isn’t already recolorable, then your going to have to reupload with a recolorable texture and BodyColors. You should have been messaged to change the colors by staff.
