Hey! I’ve been lucky enough to get accepted into the recent batch above, and here’s some criticism I’d like to input from the getgo:
when searching for creators, it’s cumbersome quickly switching to the next creator from the current one you are looking at, as it requires you to go to the previous page, scroll back down, remember who your previous creator was, and go to the next one from there. Having “previous” & “next” would be super useful for the UX experience, as I’m personally not a major fan of having tons of tabs open, especially so when taking into account for memory usage and the like
It seems that either no developer embeds images, or there is no support for posting images - I am assuming this was intentional due to moderation concerns and the like, but it is very cumbersome having to go to the game links to see whether you are interested in a developer or not. A preview function that supports 3D view (something alike on Roblox’s marketplace) where you can inspect models, images and the like in detail would definitely be a huge boon.
Adding onto this, it was a bit of a short learning curve realizing that I could middle-click the profile picture of the users, but not the avatar themselves. Imo it would be nice to highlight either the profile picture a bit more, or let us middle/right-click the whole avatar.
I’m pretty ecstatic to have been invited to participate in the beta phase of the Talent Hub! So far it appears that it will be a huge improvement to people looking for others to work with.
What it doesn’t improve on, however, is portfolio. Developers, quite frankly, need the ability to showcase their projects in a decent range and perspective. I could see that the current project area did try to offer in this regard however there should be much more we can showcase.
For starters, past work being displayed by developers. The current project feature could be recycled to look like a library but I’ve thought of something far, far better. Slideshow integration. Users could use a slides program like Powerpoint or Google Slides that they could, perhaps, integrate on to their profile for a portfolio. I have wanted to integrate a slideshow in a much needed update to my forum portfolio for a while and I see a great opportunity within the Talent Hub for a feature specifically like this. If this feature wouldn’t be considered, I hope the engineers behind the site could find a good idea from it.
Other than what I’ve stated above, we need higher character limits. At least twice the amount that we’re limited to right now. I have filled out my profile and the character limits do seem reasonable in parts like the job position. But why should I be limited to only ## characters on my current project’s title? I initially put in a name that was too long even for my standard, then shortened it. In the end, my project name was still too long and I had to remove just one word to make the title fit. I understand that not every project has an adjectory name but give us some leniency on this!
I don’t really have any complaints, except the “parental pin” as I’ve said before. I’m not verified, so people with the pins (that use them for security reasons) won’t even see my page, and I can’t see other unverified users.
Bit of feedback - you should be able to post off-site links that aren’t currently included on the Consent Agreement. This is for sure a huge step in the right direction for a more open Roblox, but people aren’t just going to use the 10 websites you sent.
For example, @Reselim’s (open source) ugc.works allow for UGC creators to give a short URL to access their work. Or even portfolio websites. I’ve seen a lot of developers include portfolio websites in their DevForum description, etc (myself included). That’s a lot of time & effort lost when it won’t be found by potential employers on their Creator Page.
This is especially apparent to me as I build web applications, and would love to showcase them on my Creator Page. My account got moderated because I added a link to a website I built (despite the fact that my links weren’t removed - I don’t have access to bug reports so I can’t report it). I’ve spent 1+ years on that website, and want to make sure potential contractors/partners are able to see my work.
DevRel could at least include a little footer under the links section of the Creator Page that says, for example, “Links must abide by the Consent Agreement”. This would stop confusion and unnecessary moderations.
On that note, why allow google.com?
It’s just inviting people to get around it by doing https://www.google.com.au/search?q=koal.us nistead of using the not allowed koal.us (link taken from @axiliquint’s profile)
Thank you so much for having added me! Only one question: when editing settings, I see the “verify your identity” button. It does let me click on it, but it takes me to my Roblox account settings and I don’t know what to do.
Another thing I have a big gripe with. Why can you not post images, especially for GFX designers like me it is crucial that you are able to post images. This is also bad for builders and the like who don’t want to publish games to random people as as you know it is very possible to steal assets.
The only alternative is literally having to make a new portfolio on Artstation, like dude.
Apart from this, no light mode, no mobile support and a small character limit, it’s great!
It is a markup language for making formatted text. With markdown you can do things such as making bold text, italics text… and embed images. Also, here on the DevForum, to make bold and italics text we use markdown.
The Talent Hub seems like a viable option to find creators easily, but I found out several issues that might make smaller creators unable to be found on the “Find Creators” and on the profile page of anyone.
-The impossibility to add pictures on the page: for graphic artists, having a picture to quickly show off their skill is mandatory, as it’s the sole reason why a possible commissioner would go look at first. Considering small artists do not have the “Verified” tag, it will make it even harder for us to get noticed for our work.
And let’s not forget, right now everyone with the PIN setting on their RBX account can only see Verified creators. So if I had to compare Talent Hub to the current DevForum recruitment/portfolio, I can clearly say that DevForum is way better (high customization tools on posts that allows artists to make proof of their hard work.), as it allows anyone to have a chance to be seen without the fact of a verified tag defining it’s visibility.
I know in the future you can automatically verify manually, and that the Talent Hub is still in Beta, but having the ability to post up pictures (even just one for the biography) can change a lot in the process of commissioning someone. I’m looking forward for changes before the official launch
