Is the new character controller set to be released this year? I am not sure as it doesn’t appear to be on the roadmap.
This is why we hate giving out estimates. Polish, bug fixes, merges, and the internal code review process is taking longer than we expected. No surprise. It’s a big change. It’s still moving though! Probably soon, as in < 2 months. That’s also what I said last time, though, so please take that with a grain of salt. It’s not a promise.
I’d rather it take forever and be polished than rushed and buggy.
Keep up the good work!
It’s a standard term in rigging/animating.
Can someone please explain this to new developers who don’t know what do those Studio words mean? I have no clue what do words like “SurfaceAppearances” or “mesh and animation importers” mean.
If you are a new developer, why would you concern your self with this update before learning how to use what is in-studio currently?
Also it’s in the link provided.

If you don’t know what a mesh is or an animation is, then first worry about learning that before focusing on this update.
Because it is a major update, according to what the Roblox admin said. With major stuff like FE, people need to know what does it even mean.
I’d say get familiar with Roblox first. It doesn’t really make that much of a difference. The new Avatar Revolution is such a big movement away from the normal stuff. They’re also trying to make sure it doesn’t break old games while maintaining compatibility with the current functionality. There will be new stuff you’ll need to learn anyway.
There’s no rush jumping to the latest features. What I mean is, you should definitely know what they do and how to use it. But there’s no need to try updating and implementing it as a standard. It’s bound to change. You would be wasting your time to a certain point. Since they’re trying to make it a bit more compatible with the current stuff you can continue focusing on that.
Once it’s released Roblox should have some tutorials or guides so that you can easily transition.
This doesn’t have anything to do with FE. That you should learn, it’s part of the basics. However, this update is not apart of the basics. It’s not worth the worry at the moment.
I wouldn’t stress about it. While these are definitely major changes, these are mostly going to be used when you have a bit more experience with Studio and not when you’re starting out. They’re definitely not major in the way FE is either, so just learn the basics for now. Also as T0ny said, Roblox will almost definitely provide resources on how to use the new features so learning shouldn’t be too difficult regardless of your experience.
After playing around with PBR for some time i have 3 observations.
- After my first Warning for importing texture maps into roblox i got another one some days ago.
-
While uploading texture maps most of them get quickly deleted from platform once uploaded which makes it really hard.
-
Made custom assets from substance painter to roblox, but it doesnt look as good, so i was wondering if it is an error on my workflow, im not sure which is the max texture resolution allowed (I think i have managed to import 4k textures but not sure if the engine reduces them to 1024)
So my first test its pretty much pixelated.
But it looks a lot better on substance.
I saw some other people import really high quality textures on their meshes so i was wondering what is their workflow for that.
I skimmed through the thread but could not find an answer (though I might have missed it), can we expect “tiling” for our materials? It would seriously help make a place using textures look so much better.
If you publish the game does it replicate the textures to the Roblox client so players can see the things?
This looks insane. I love it it’s so cool
can the mesh animating be anything like blenders, or have some of the features blender has?
avatar evolution is here! :DDD
So if we’re moving away from Humanoids, what’s going to happen to ShirtTemplates, since they play an integral role to Roblox’s economy and character creator.
Are we going to see a new object for rendering shirts, or even better (but unlikely), custom UV Mapping?
I just can‘t more wait for this update! it looks very good and nice, want really use this in-game with the new Lights of Future is bright!
Blame 1024p texturing. Roblox has this whack limitation on textures for virtually no reason at this point.
There’s a bug that doesn’t let you publish, so I can’t add the textures, does someone know why does it happen or how to fix it?
