If they’re getting paid a good amount of money ofc they will be motivated.
Kids will spend 1000s of robux on pets or whatever.
If you have a budget that big, advertising will be ez.
With actually good people you can make a good game
Even though all of that, you may have a 90% chance of having a good game, but you still have a chance of it flopping. It comes down to who gets it and their situation. If they are some ex-exec then the game may be good but may seem like a waste of money to someone who has it, but if they are a small developer with good ideas then it has a better chance of not flopping. Basically, if someone who deserves it, goes get it, then their game probably won’t flop and would be pretty good.
This is really amazing oh my. I can’t wait to do this with my projects
I wonder if anyone take the fund and then make a “escape amog us dababy obby tycoon” or someone that take the fund to buy a house.
Better to check if the developer has experience and skills and the idea of the game before giving them $500k.
Agreed, When I first read the document I thought they meant robux, then I read it a second time and stood in disbelief that anyone yet alone Official Roblox would invest half a million (at least in USD) in funding for a Roblox game
Note: States you need to be 18+ to participate, sadly I won’t be able to apply, but I’m excited to see what Creative, Unique, and Memorable experiences come from this.
Not possible, because the 500k is a investment to make your project a reality.
meaning that, if you start the obby plan, the staff will simply judge the whole thing unneeded to be funded.
Plus, they will likely not handle that sum to most young teams,
this is likely a type of headstart real entreprises would receive.
for instances, people who already possess a professional history, contributing for large scale groups like sony, supercell, etc
Is it possible for my legal guard to apply in my name or in her name if otherwise is not possible?
Aww man
Thought this was some Introducing… staff post lol, but I guess this is even better…??
Not sure what my opinion on this is, but it sounds cool.
I understand and appreciate the funds given to the developers, but I don’t think anyone is going to be making a brand new triple a game on roblox with those funds. Rather than this, I’d be fine with the current dev ex rates rising or at least being changed up some to better help and suit all developers.
Hello! How does ownerships and rights work?
Ahh yes! A perfect time to create a proposal for my MMORPG project. Good luck @mkivtt this has great potential for Roblox as a whole if utilized correctly, I believe in you!
Does anyone know if there are requirements such as group visits/income for a studio? I reckon I’d be able to whip up a solid application but I am entirely unsure if there are soft requirements that’d make it impossible. My team has the skills required and the experience but we have yet to release a project as a studio yet.
Let’s be honest, the chances of getting picked from these applications is close to 0%.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a very generous thing to do, and there are definitely benefits that come out of Roblox doing something like this, but there’s a lot of other problems that I feel like need to be addressed first.
Instead of using all of this money to improve current features on Roblox that are straight up unreliable (TeleportService for instance) or add new features so that we can create better, more optimized games, Roblox wants to give a big budget to a few lucky developers, and leave the other 99.999% of developers with nothing new.
Why not improve the overall development experience for EVERY developer?
Whilst I do agree that they should use money to improve upon what they have already I’d certainly back this move more than that. By doing this there’s a massive amount of hidden potential that can be gained within the partnership between Roblox and potentially new studios. Beyond what studios can do with easy contact with Roblox they can create plug-ins or other open sourced support tools for developers to use, not just them. Though, all in all, this is unlikely to happen. At the very least the Game Fund can attract and create new ideas that haven’t been made before by those studios who’d need the funds to start their projects. I personally think that the chances of being picked from an application aren’t that miniscule, depending on the effort and strength of the team/application. Personally I’m confident with creating a strong application but I am not too confident in passing possible soft requirements for this such as possible visit requirements. By doing this Game Fund Roblox has the potential of supporting plenty of developers given they choose the most supportive applicants.
I don’t quite understand from this
Applicants will be selected on a rolling basis throughout the second half of 2021
what is the deadline for the submissions? 1st of September? Because I want to make the application nice and with quality, but that takes time and how much do we have?
It is not possible.
Because the payment would also include a contract, which you cannot sign as a minor.
and it’s a contract that set conditions to you, therefore you have to be the one signing it
Hi, from experience I tell you that Sony and Supercell are not good examples when it comes to developing. They’re good on this side, but mostly they’re looking to take as much money from consumers as possible and that’s about it.
There’s no set deadline. Just submit an application as soon as you feel comfortable with what you made. I reckon that a spike of higher quality applications will be posted this weekend after a few days to create, or update, GDDs/project proposals.
Can only the owner of the project be 18+, and the other devs be below 18, or the entire team must be 18+?
that’s slightly irrelevant since you brings up a remark regarding money, and Roblox are looking for experienced developers, if you have records of working on known groups or projects, then people will be interested to hire you.
When you apply for funding or a job, you have to present youself since Roblox does not know you, you cannot go wrong in participating in successfull corporations such as Sony and Supercell and present yourself as one of their past contributors
The project manager, or really the applicant, should be 18+ by default whilst it’d be a case-by-case basis for the other developers. I’d recommend that they should all be 18+ for the sake of creating contracts for the developers. I’m sure that you could sort something out for developers who are 16 or 17 but any younger would be harder to deal with in terms of long-term contracts.
