Introducing the Game Fund

There can still be a lot of good games made on roblox, but there needs to be more funding towards the features of the engine. It’s hella absurd when the corescripts have bugs, with this being a multi-billion dollar company, and they’re here trying to get games made on that engine with this amount of money. Put more towards engineering and actually POWERING developers to be able to do more on your platform.

This is exciting but kind of weird. I have a feeling the only people who are going to be accepted are people who don’t need the funding to begin with.

Probably because you need to sign a contract and more than likely a few NDAs that come with it.

18+, this requirement just makes the whole thing useless for developers aged under 18. There are a lot of talented developers that are less than 18 years old, and this just limits the potential use of this feature.

This isn’t for young developers. This has actual real USD and not Robux so for legal reasons they cannot do that. This is for real studios outside of Roblox that are established.

Minimum of 500k? This could be a new start and its absolutely insane for Roblox to do something like this. Good luck to anyone applying!

this sounds really cool. kinda bumbed though. im making a really big project and need funding but no one on my team is 18. why do we need to be 18? its just robux. id assume you wont allow us to devex it so. why? im confused as to why we need this requirement? anyways. good job roblox.

This is an interesting step for roblox, and I could see it really pushing for innovation within roblox’s community. However I see the suggestions of

and

as quite limiting in terms of creative freedom. This essentially disallows games with in game character customization and means you have to implement metaverse features into games that wouldn’t normally support them. Pushing for innovation but limiting games to ones that force the roblox avatar as a main point seems a little redundant. Unless I’m misunderstanding, as the two quoted sections weren’t very well explained.

You still have to sign a contract and possibly NDAs in relation to this. Yes, it’s easier to just go through a legal guardian for underaged devs, however, in my dealings with minors and contract signing it’s easier and better to just deal with developers who are over 18.

The post highlighted that they will be prioritizing applications which have those focuses. From my interpretation, it seems like there will also be room for other experiences which don’t fit that criteria as well.

I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see what comes through the pipeline.

WOW $500,000 that’s a lot! I’m really exited to see what developers create with such a high budget for a single project. This is a step in the right direction :+1:

Except it’s not Robux but instead real money (500,000 USD).

On one hand, this is a huge incentive for devs to create games that push the platform forward.

On the other hand, as I am typing this the Roblox website is down for most, if not all people I know right now and this is money that would be better spent on fixing your stuff so devs don’t have to be held up by how unreliable Roblox is.

Assuming that you’re gonna be selecting a myriad range of applicants, why don’t ya use the money to increase Developer Exchange rates?
A topic that has been pushed by the platform’s current lead developers and many more, and I’m surprised that you’re looking to fund new games from ground up rather than doing that.

oh, i didnt know that. i still think they should do something for developers under 18. most of the platform is users under 18. a huge amount of developers wont be able to use these resources. id like to see an amount in robux. so more teams can get in on this.

Sadly, the legality of that is the problem. As NDAs cannot be enforced for under 18s.
