KRF Development Sneak Peaks #2

Hello Everyone!

This is the second article of the Kepler Research Facility (KRF) Development Sneak Peaks series, a series of documents where I post sneak peaks of my upcoming game, Kepler Research Facility.

Last KRF Development Sneak Peak article I made, I discussed briefly about the game’s lore. However, when reviewing the article, I realized that I didn’t tell about the main game concept at all. With each development sneak peak, I will tell about certain features that will be included in the game. For this sneak peak, I will be discussing the main concept of the game.

Game Concept

Kepler Research Facility will be a game where you manage to keep a stellar core in stable condition, or cause the artificial star to expand into an uncontrollable stage and causes a nebula (technically equivalent to a nuclear explosion) which destroys not only the facility, but areas in close proximity to KRF (such as Quinault Lake, Quinault and Neilton, Washington). Once the game releases, I will work on multiple endings to the facility, such as an uncontrollable zombie apocalypse, and also will add the ability to conduct scientific experiments.

Teams

Last KRF Development Sneak Peak article, I promised you guys that I would discuss about the teams at Quinault Science Corporation. Here are the teams that will be in the game:

  • Visitors
Visitors are people who were allowed access by an employee at the facility. This team will be free.

  • Science Team
The Science Team is the largest group of the facility in terms of the number of employees. They are tasked to conduct scientific experiments (duh), and also are the primary controllers of the stellar core. This team will be free.

  • Construction & Maintenance Team (C&M Team)
The C&M Team is the team keeping the facility in working condition. They fix broken things and also renovate certain sections of the facility. This team will be free.

  • Administration Team
The Administration Team is the team keeping the facility in orderly fashion. They enforce the actions that lower ranked personnel do and also make the rules. Only official game moderators and developers will be able to join this team.

The following ranks are ranks that will NOT be in included in the first public release of the game.

  • Security Team
The Security Team is the team that keeps the facility safe from dangerous threats. They possess weapons at all times to terminate (kill) anyone who threatens them. When the Security Team releases, there will be a self guided training that tests your accuracy with firing guns in a limited time to see if you are worthy to put yourself at the front of protective duty. If you think messing with these guys is a good idea, you are very mistaken!

  • Raiders
Raiders are comprised of two different groups:

    • Organized Crime Raiders
The Organized Crime Raiders are a group of raiders that originated from organized criminal operations. Their task is anything to do with destroying or ruining the facility, such as blowing up the stellar core. They have access to weapons security have as well as weapons that are deemed illegal in the United States, such as explosives. They are hostile to their Soviet competitor, the KGB Raiders. This team will be free with some restrictions (such as access to explosives and body armor).
    • KGB Raiders
KGB Raiders are secret soldiers sent by the Soviet Union to compromise American related infrastructure. Their target in KRF’s case would be equations that are top secret to not only KRF, but the United States government and also to blow up the stellar core. Keep in mind, the game takes place in 1988, when the Soviet Union is experiencing its downfall, and they are trying their best to keep their country in orderly fashion. This team will be paid due to their high quality weapons from the Organized Crime Raiders (price is TBD).
  • Prisoners
Prisoners are a incarcerated team. They comprise of raiders who have been arrested rather than killed and rouge employees. Jail times vary on the action you do. If you kill a security guard, expect the jail sentence to be longer than if you don’t kill someone. If it is a long term prison sentence, the prisoner can be tested on certain science experiments.

Keep in mind, these teams are NOT final and are subject to change.

Game Development

Since KRF Development Sneak Peaks #1, I have finished the Administration Center and I am currently working on areas outside of the Administration Center. By the next article, I expect to finish the exterior part of the facility and start working on the main part of the facility, where things get fun!

Images

Here are the images of the work I have done over the past few days.

The exterior sign of the Administration Center

The entrance has a security checkpoint that detects anomalies

The security loadout room. Please note that guns models are not in the cases and likely will not be in the game when it first releases to the public.

A lot of signs

A hallway with a former elevator and the Administration Center’s restrooms

The men’s restroom

A meeting room with the executive hallway and the top of a stairwell

Conclusion

That is it for KRF Development Sneak Peaks #2. I am not sure how much progress I will get done between now and August due to a heatwave forecasted for my area (which will make me want to spend less time on my computer).
