Let members use ONLY #lounge:roblox-discussion subcategory (Good Idea?)

Hey, just a quick suggestion!

I have seen that #development-discussion is being “spammed” nowdays, so after a couple of time, i seen that there is a general category, so it suddenly occurred to me why not allow members to write to # roblox-general, thus preventing spam?

So, off topic things would go to #roblox-general, and #development-discussion will not be spammed anymore, What do you think about it?

Do you think letting members write in #general-roblox is a good idea?
  • Yes, Its a good idea!
  • No, Its a bad idea (Explain Why)

This already exists, but it’s for regulars only, and should stay that way.

#lounge:roblox-discussion

If you want to talk about roblox, go onto discord. This is the roblox developer forum.

What is #roblox-general? Is this a new category you are proposing? If so, then no support. This is a developer forum, not the Roblox forum 2.0.

Ah no, sorry, i mean #lounge:roblox-discussion

The same reasoning still applies then, and also, there is some potentially sensitive content in all of #lounge, so no even more.

Absolutely not. Please don’t do this. We don’t want normal players using the devforum as the makeshift roblox forums.

You said ONLY, so I say no. What about if you need code review, scripting support, or even something else?

I mean, #lounge has subacategories, so members only would be only able to use #lounge:roblox-discussion

Does it have a sub category for forum feedback, tutorials, resources, building support, scripting support, etc?

Yeah, but only regulars + can use them (#platform-feedback)

No. It’s not.

This will just recreate the original Roblox forums which was removed for many good reasons.

If #lounge is opened to members, it’s going to get flooded in my own belief in a worse manner than how DD is currently being. It should stay regular only, and this reply is coming from a member. I understand how regulars and higher could be frustrated with all the low-budget posts flooding DD.

I don’t understand why lounge would have this. Regulars can easily make a post on the actual categories. And are you sure it has it? You’re a member.

If they have subcategories that only regulars can use in the so called #roblox-general, why would anyone bother using those? There’s already the original ones there.

Sorry, i mean only regulars + can use ALL the categories

As a Regular I can confirm the existence of #lounge:roblox-discussion. But the entirety of #lounge is legacy, and would never come to existence under the forum’s current leadership. So I don’t really support updating a relic.

I comitted lots of writing errors in this post, i will fix them soon!

Rather then trying to fix the issue at hand, your alternative solution would mean content of a normally populated Discussion would be created in lounge. This would act as at incentive for users to spam low quality content, believing their actions are justified for. I don’t think this is an effective solution to the problem

I think no, as I don’t think the lounge category should exist anyways. This is a Roblox development forum, not a Roblox forum.

Low quality discussion belongs in chat rooms, not forums. If you’re so eager to ask, why don’t you look around for a third-party to communicate about ideas?

I agree with your statement, allowing #lounge to be opened for normal Forum Members will pave the way to make this Developer Forum, ruined. How? People would notice there’s a #lounge category for the Developer Forum, and since #lounge is based on #lounge:roblox-discussion and #lounge:off-topic, this would fill up the Developer Forum with a bunch of people who just wanted to use this forum as some type of Roblox Forum.

If this does occur, the whole purpose of the Developer Forum is completely ruined, as more and more users will just join the Developer Forum to post non-development topics in #lounge.
