There’s a point where you can’t blame everything on the mods. We as users of the forum have to be responsible enough to use it properly. The mods are busy because so many requests of takedown of bad threads.
Feel free to disagree, but post approval needs to come back before locking #development-discussion. Locking it now would just increase the already large gap.
A little bit off topic, but do other companies hire people for Forum moderation? Or are they all volunteers like this forum?
Most other forums use volunteer moderation. Corporate ones usually hire staff for moderation, along with volunteers.
Money and practicality. It’s so much easier for everyone to follow the rules than roblox to hire so many.
if people gonna see crappy thread getting taken down they’ll stop and the amount of them will decrease to a pathetic size
how many mods are there anyway u think they are all busy all the time lol
You realize DET does other stuff too? And clearly that isn’t working. People just complain that they get flagged and don’t realize why, and they also edit to bypass flags.
I agree, and disagree.
There is lots of spam, but, development discussion is the only reason why lots of us here stay here.
But, you lucky regulars, get the lounge; witch has multiple subcategories. Including:
The main lounge
Roblox discussion (I think?)
Off topic
Maybe more?
But, locking it out just move the spam posts into other categories, in a loop.
As a member myself,
for all I don’t like being branded with the ‘you spam, clutter up the DevForum and generally are a nuisance’ stereotype, I completely understand where it comes from and support this idea.
Development Discussion [and a lot of other categories too, actually] is so full of off-topic posts to the point where I tend to ignore a lot of the stuff that’s put in there, the worst offenders generally being Members.
I don’t feel like it would be that much of an issue for me, I don’t use the category much at all any more.
(it would, however, be nice to have a way to be ranked up along with this)
So what your saying is your staying here just because of #development-discussion? Then go to other communication or social media sites, this is not a place where you trash #development-discussion with non-development, or non-relevant topics.
We don’t use #lounge very much, well some of us do but we prefer to use other communication apps or sites rather than the Developer Forum.
We’re also cool if the #lounge should be removed because it’s not even development related.
Honestly, if you just went to the Developer Forum to treat it as a regular public forum go to Discord or other communication apps or servers and talk about the stuff you want, that dosen’t fit with any category here.
To be simple: The Developer Forum is a site for Roblox developers to give them a forum, for asking opinions or facts from other developers that would help them in developing, post bug reports, and get updated with the latest Roblox Developer updates of features, from #updates. This is not a public forum nor should you treat this forum like that, lastly, do not trash #development-discussion. It’s also not a reason to trash #development-discussion.
Wrong, when I was a Member and #development-discussion was locked for Members, spam posts weren’t really prevalent and was easily removed, compared to now there’s a large amount of irrelevant posting in #development-discussion along with the usual and accidental wrong category topics being posted, at the other categories, you’re statement is proven to be vague and false.
Who said @leftyjrcgametesting was trashing #development-discussion?
You’re also being quite rude to people in this topic. Someone can say “regulars get lounge and members don’t” and you will write an essay explaining the reason why they get it.
Stop.
You fail to see why I called him out for trashing #development-discussion.
Based on his statement they stay because of #development-discussion but not because of development related purposes. Let’s rephrase that they stay because not because of development-related subjects but only because of the category of #development-discussion, and they think they can post whatever they want in it, I mean if you just stayed for the category and not realy about development why on earth would you stay the Developer Forum and use the #development-discussion category even though #development-discussion has the word development in it, most members tend to misunderstand because of what they see as discussion in the category and they kept thinking it’s a discussion category… more than a development discussion category.
Clearly a bunch of members is staying here just because of #development-discussion because they think they can post whatever topic they can think of, and clearly thus mindset just encourages some users to think that the #development-discussion is a place where you guys could post whatever you want. I mean, seriously, if the rules in #development-discussion is strictly followed and we see lesser spam threads or topics they wouldn’t even stay here in the Developer Forum, and you also fail to analyze that based on his statements you don’t see how this encourages more and more people just to stay here because of #development-discussion but to use it in a wrongful way.
I don’t want to argue, but do you mind separating your points into separate paragraphs? It’s tricky to read for me.
Clearly I do. Can you explain why you called him out?
What did I do? I’ve made one development discussion post, no body flagged, and the next day an editor moved it? You have problaly made more devforum spam posts than the years I’ve been alive. (13)
Thanks Crazed for backing me up.
What I mean is that, based on his statement…
What’s the reason of why should they be staying? Just for #development-discussion? This is not a valid reason to stay in the Developer Forum, and also… why would you stay especially for #development-discussion? What’s worst is that if you see #development-discussion now, I can analyze why he’d want to stay, the fact that I’ve seen Members ruining #development-discussion, making it already a public discussion category, inspired them to stay, secondly, there’s no other valid reason to stay just for #development-discussion, if you want to have a development discussion, you’d normally participate in development related topics, and secondly you’ll not reply to off-development related threads. Thirdly if you just stayed for that, why can’t you have a development discussion in other Developer platforms other than the Developer Forum?
Why should you presume when you clearly have nothing to back you up with your accusation, which seems to be extremely foolish. Clearly if your posting to insult me just because I’m stating the truth that’s incredibly more foolish, secondly, I’ve reviewed all the Developer Forum’s rules before posting which some users failed to do. I think before I post and make sure it abides by the rules like other proper DevForum Members and Regulars, sure I make mistakes sometimes one or two since we’re not perfect, however you shouldn’t presume that I make dozens of spam posts, if I do, I’d rather have so much moderation letters. I’d like to backup that if you’d like to stay in the Developer Forum just to use #development-discussion, why can’t you just discuss “development” in other categories?
In general, it’s seems that if you’re reasoning out that you’re staying just because of #development-discussion, well that’s not a valid reason to be staying in this forum.
Why? Let’s see, Members already made #development-discussion a public discussion forum category, now I’ve noticed more and more people kept replying on off-topic threads, now, what does that mean? That isn’t helping our case in #development-discussion, it’s only making it worst, it’s just encouraging more and more people to post there, especially for farm posters, they don’t care about the rules, they just want their post to be liked. I’m not saying everybody in #development-discussion, however some post topics in #development-discussion, that are all mostly junk and or irrelevant topics, now, as we see #development-discussion is already getting worst, and you’re staying just because of #development-discussion, isn’t it obvious, that they’re just staying to treat #development-discussion as a public forum considering the fact that nobody almost nobody follows the rules in #development-discussion?
You realize that was saying to everyone as “not a place where you trash it up”. No need to call him out for something he didn’t even say. You took it out of context.
Also, you happen to stay for oh…27 days? Such an effort to stay on, woahhh.
Sorry. That probably wasn’t my place to mention that.
Instead of punishing everyone, why don’t we have a strike system for DD? If they get x topics taken down, they get banned from posting topics in DD
I disagree, Development discussion is the only place where developers are able to have normal conversations about certain topics, plus it’s the only place where members can ask questions
Certain topics being… not about development or about development? A lot of conversations I see occurring in #development-discussion are conversations that would be more appropriate in messages (alternatively #lounge if Regular could be obtained). If you want to abide by the rules and help sustain the professional environment of the DevForum, good distinctions to make are, first, has this topic been covered before? Second, how much does the topic actually relate to development? If either one of those distinctions come out as “yes” or “not much relation” then it would be best to not create a new topic. Similarly, replies to a topic should go through a similar process.
Questions regarding development, scripts, building, things you made, and similar technical aspects of Roblox have designated categories that I feel encompass everything you could need from the DevForum. If you have a topic that does not easily fit into these categories it may be more to your benefit to modify the topic or relegate it to a question for a friends over messages/ external forums.
Though I’m not arbiter of truth and have only a basic understand of the categories, I feel as though the following may help expand on what is development discussion and what is not. This is my opinion and should only be regarded as such, though I feel it is still credible simply because of the stipulations:
The topic What music do you like listening to when you develop does not fit into #development-discussion for me. For one, it actually has no substantive connection to developing. It is just an opinion question about what music people enjoy listening to and has no real reason to be discussed on this particular forum. The addition of “when you develop” is rather superficial and does little to make the actual topic relevant to developing. On the otherhand, a topic I feel does fit into #development-discussion is What do you prefer to work with; R6, R15 or a custom rig?. This is another opinionated discussion, but now it is related to Roblox, there is no disputing that. You can also see people comparing and contrasting aspects of Roblox relevant to the topic that questions like the music topic just cannot accomplish because it is inherently not Roblox or development related. If instead the music topic had been something along the lines of “What music do you find players to enjoy the most in [Genre] games?” or “What type of music helps retain players during repetitive phases of a game?” that would be a better fitted topic to the category.
Fair enough. I see what you’re going at here.
