Material Generator [Beta]

I know that, I would avoid getting banned from generating biased content that hasn’t been censored such as gore, I would just avoid it.

if you notice in his example the AI generated texture looks like bumpy concrete when it should be flat since it is a picture of space.

Also the AI generated normal maps are pretty generic in that they always make dark areas look like holes/recessions, when sometimes the dark object would be the protruding part. A lot of times it just makes stuff look like concrete.

It would be super cool if Roblox provided a technical breakdown of how these materials are being generated.

I experimented with the generator for a few minutes, and I cannot wait to see how this turns out in the next week months. This is going to help all sorts of developers who need rapid prototyping, or just don’t have the resources available to hire graphics artists.

Hello Slim, Do keywords get you banned? Seem some users get banned using this feature. Using (sandbrick) and getting banned for a day? Will this be resolved when it comes out of beta?

I don’t really like it because it gets innocent users banned.

The material generator did my account got banned for no reason, and I can’t appeal it, now I don’t have access to my games…

The problem is that until reading a common on an 89 response post I was completely unaware that a beta feature would upload stuff to my profile. There could have been more transparency regarding this entire update. As cool as it is. I’m not a fan of the content moderation as it’s hit and miss on whether or not you can get a timed ban for something like “Grass Texture 1” I wouldn’t have played with it otherwise until I got more clarity as to what it would do to my profile. it would have made me feel much better had it not just uploaded things to my profile, and instead, like we were told, upload to my files to see what it looks like on the material BEFORE uploading it to my profile.

What did you generate? Was it anything questionable? Or just normal stuff like rocks and grass?

AI is going to help newer scripters learn scripting on Roblox, now it is going to generate materials next!? What is next!?

I think clicking on an image automatically uploads it since I didn’t confirm one material but it uploaded anyway because I was on the preview screen

Probably the AI building things… but there’s probably a few steps before that.

Hello, It happened because I placed a stained glass texture and then I lost access to my account. But for some reason now it lets me access my account, I don’t know if that means it was appealed?

I am not too sure I agree with you releasing this feature to Studio Beta. You probably should of developed it a bit more.

One: Why is a Roblox beta feature uploading images to my account? The original post never said clearly that something like that would happen!!

Two: Okay Roblox, I get it. You are trying to hop on the AI train. But don’t you think you should develop this feature a little further (like add a moderation bot to the AI,) so you can’t get banned from using it.

There’s my mini rant about this feature lol. Still think its a great idea, but just needs to be worked out some more.

This is a beta feature. This is part of it getting developed further.

Also, you have to manually upload images to use surface appearance, how did you think it would work? Button needs more disclaimers around it, but of course it’s going to upload images to your account.

Just back from a one-day ban and while I really enjoyed the short time I got to play with the generator and I think it has great potential, the sting of a ban for creating a pimply skin texture and having it uploaded to my account makes me weary.

I get that moderation is needed but the workflow needs to change. Rather than banning people after the fact for using a tool provided to them it’s probably worth warning users while they are still in studio to let them know that a texture or its name might trigger the ban hammer.

Other well-known diffusion models seem to have their restrictions baked in. Once this is sorted out it will be a great addition but for now handle with care.

Yes, this is a beta feature, I just think they should have added a moderator bot. Not to say they won’t, that was mostly just my rant on the feature now it may change later.

Also yes, I do know you have to manually upload them, but I just think there can be a better system (in my opinion).
The current system is fine though.

There are already two layers of filtering: on your prompt, and afaik some kind of pre-moderation on the images generated before they’re even shown to you (sometimes you get a different number of images returned, presumably because some get omitted by this).

Yes, there are some moderation systems in place, but they are not good enough. Refer to @MajorWind’s post.

Refer to my post. You are still responsible for the images you choose to save. The UI could be improved in this regard though.

I do agree with making the button a little easier to notice that it will add the image to your account. Maybe like a popup that says This image will be added to your account. The AI generation is completely fine though.
