Moderation Notifications & Appeals in Studio

Hello Creators,

We have released a small but important update to Studio that will let you know if your account has received a moderation warning or ban. Our intent is to offer a faster way to appeal incorrect moderations so you can quickly return to creation and development work.

Until this update, if your account received a moderation action, Studio would simply log you out without providing a reason. Often Studio would appear frustratingly broken and the only way you would know why is if you logged into Creator Dashboard.

Now Studio will let you know the details of the moderation and, when possible, you can resolve this completely within Studio.

Example of a ban notification with relevant details.

Example of a warning notification that can be resolved within Studio.

While we are not able to “pause” Studio Editor when your account is moderated, we will attempt to automatically save your work if we detect a status change to your profile.

For Team Create sessions, both warnings and bans will cause an immediate place close (due to server kick) and the new moderation UI will show on the Studio Start screen.

For non-Team Create editing sessions, bans will close the place but warnings may be resolved without closing the place.

Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback for our team. We hope this makes your experience less stressful!

Thanks, better than the previous behavior.

The ideal would be if Studio could simply not lock you out instead, and instead just block access to publishing and asset creation. A lot of developers end up moderated over complete nonsense, or for honest mistakes, and with people making this their job these days, it is unacceptable to block access to their IDE and authoring tools of all things. The turnaround to get unmoderated for regular developers is multiple days if at all, long enough to miss a release window. Team Create is a bit of a special case wherein blocking them from the server session is required, but many workflows do not involve it at all, and the developer should still be able to continue in their own local environment.

Does this include non-published places?

For the Team Create behavior? Yes.

Unfortunately because Team Create runs on standard servers, any “banned” player is immediately kicked. I believe there’s another team looking into how we might be able to treat a creator moderation differently than a player moderation/ban.

In the first image, is it possible to include a button to close Studio instead of only having Log Out?

I’m interested to learn how you’d run a Team Create session on an unpublished place file!

My question was specifically about files opened from the disk that have never existed on Roblox’s servers. Not about Team Create.

Yes this is just one little piece of a larger effort to make moderation less of a hinderance. This includes reducing false positives and other things - but most of that outside of the scope of Studio. All we can do is know when your account got a strike and show the UI.

There’s also countless numbers of backend APIs that just error out (in different ways!) when a request is made for a moderated account. Some of these endpoints are shared with the player side which doesn’t really gracefully handle a moderated creator vs player. The good news is there’s a bigger team than mine fully aware of these issues and making progress towards improvement.

Oh sorry! Local files shouldn’t automatically close on account status change.

THANK YOU!!! This actually happened to me once when I got an account warning while developing a game on studio. I joined then everything started glitching out. My character clothes didn’t load, all the animations were broken, some things just didn’t load, and I got a whole lot of errors in the output log. Then I checked my account and saw the warning then simply re-activated my account. Some things stayed broken so I kinda had to revert to a slightly older place version.
This is a good QOL update that just makes things easier. Thank you Paul! :hidere:

Oh, that’s great to hear. I thought even local files would automatically close when my account status would’ve changed.

I think for Warnings or other actions that can be solved within Studio, Team Create kicks should be put on hold, and if you resolve the action, it should automatically try to re-connect you.

Hmmm… maybe! Are you thinking it would save the trouble of re-logging in once your account is resolved?

That was my initial train of thought but I haven’t had to sign in to Studio in so long I forgot how easy it is to do now, you don’t have to open up a random experience from the site anymore.

It’s really more of an ergonomics thing, since I imagine closing the pop-up window would also close all of Studio.

For warnings, this is mentioned which should be more of what you’re looking for (sorry I misread the first time):

May I suggest possibly adding a close Roblox Studio button? Not everyone may want to log out of Roblox Studio when they get a notification that their account has been moderated

Yep @ChasingSpace had a similar request. I’ve sent it to the team to talk it over.

can you add a tool to review assets if it is moderated or not so we can know if we can upload this on the platform or not instead of getting a warning ?
