Im testing this out now, the ui is kinda clunky and hard to navigate, it feels like stuff is missing, honestly i wish you guys kept the old layout and just updated the general look of it…
This new UI is literally ONLY a downgrade. For me, UI needs to be space efficient and actually make sense. This new UI completely ignores this and decides to cover a fourth of my screen and have a half an inch of space between each button.
Please add a setting to revert this. It’s a complete eyesore and a massive downgrade from the previous UI. All it’s done is made studio more bloated and uglier.
I agree, it just seems like roblox doesn’t QA any of this stuff with ACTUAL developers…
Like there is no way this update was approved, IF anything they should make a “Legacy” studio feature, where you can chose to have the old ui, This UI is objectively worse in every possible way, a very inferior product.
WHERE ARE THE BUTTONS
Honestly though I feel like the new UI has too much empty space. The previous UI was completely fine and intuitive.
Main concerns I have:
The show surface indicator is gone, please give it back I’m in pain
The UI takes more space on the top than the old one did, less real estate for the same stuff makes everything else feel more cluttered
This removed the custom buttons on the top left that were actually so nice, please give them back
If these things are fixed, I’d say it’s a nice change, but otherwise it’s a dealbreaker for me
This is an extremely stupid argument to me, why are you making the service provider (Roblox) your enemy and the people who actually create good points that are in-favor of them the ally of the enemy? This change effects all of us. No one is getting paid or forced.
Your personal opinion will not matter in the eyes of the engineers when your argument is a mere mirror of another, which has been said probably many times already, and even is acknowledged.
It’s very easy to provide feedback, you want engineers and the service provider to actually consider or even look at your “feedback”? You construct it with kindness. Without it, you are extremely prone to getting ignored. (Unless you point out an extremely important new issue that hasn’t been acknowledged, which most of the time is very unlikely in cases such as this.)
So everything now takes up marginally more space despite every tab having significantly less elements than the previous UI?
Tons of buttons that absolutely nobody ever complained about removed/moved to where nobody can find them?
The perfectly fine and easily accessible “View” tab removed entirely and its contents scattered everywhere across with no intuitive way to find/access them? Not to mention how the view tab had little icons for each element roughly showcasing what its for beyond the name;
Now as this…
This feels like it was made to purposefully overcomplicate things with all the unnecessary drop downs and such, a genuine workflow killer, not because it’s new and people aren’t used to it, but because it seems to be mostly designed that way.
It used to be compact and fit plenty of features within the same few tabs, very handy and required very little navigation work, i wholeheartedly beg of thee to keep it that way.
All of the tab icons being made bigger and taking up more space seems like it was designed to be easier to read/view & yet it directly gets contradicted by the amount of settings crammed into drop down menus that were also all stripped of their icons, feels very inconsistent.
Subjective here, but visually I personally don’t think it looks great either, it looks ‘dumbed down’ in a way, very corporate and unnecessarily simple. I’m by no means a UI designer but I am a user with 2 eyes and I’ve never understood the trend of oversimplifying every piece of interface & icons possible, it feels like being babied and generally comes off as less professional to me.
I understand that this isn’t the final product and there’s still plenty of issues yet to be fixed, however you’ve forced this UI upon me as if it was a finished product and thus I will comment on it as if it truly was that way (I’m aware I can revert via beta features)
As it stands, this is an enormous downgrade.
That said I am hopeful with enough feedback (from actual users) we can get this update to a somewhat useable result.
Just discovered the existence of this, and to be honest, not a fan of the UI changes. Especially in regards to the top bar, the new explorer on the other hand…is actually pretty fine, just needs to be more compact (smaller text and search bar) and we’re golden. The spacing of everything is downright atrocious, as it’s not at compact, the spacing of buttons, dividers, and oh my god the plugins are the worst offenders of this, that’s deal breaker for me, as I need space for the game window so I can see it properly. Oh and before anyone accuses me of being “nostalgic” and “automatically hating anything new”, I know damn well that Roblox is going to axe the old UI eventually, but the new UI has glaring problems for me. I’m just hoping that they don’t axe the old one right away (and force everyone to start using the new one) until they delivered everything they stated with the new UI (especially with whole UI customization, hopefully someone can turn the new UI into something similar to the old one).
Look, once they fix the spacing, have top bar collapsible again, and have the VIEW and TEST tab brought back in some way, I’ll be 100% willing to give this a shot and provide genuine criticism. Until then, I’m sticking to the old UI.
I gave this a shot earlier today, and honestly I’ve got mixed feelings about it in its current form. The ability to make and organize custom tabs is pretty cool, but the menus are unnecessarily spacious and a lot of options and existing tabs were hidden away or removed entirely which I really don’t like.
If this is going to fully replace the existing menu, it should at least have everything the current one has instead of hiding everything behind a bunch of tiny dropdowns. The missing stuff doesn’t have to be on by default, but it’d be nice if it was still built-in as customization is still limited to just individual buttons and dividers. Also, for people like me who prefer the current UI over this, there should be a way to customize the size/spacing of certain things to make it easier to adjust to.
Other than that, I like where this is going, and I hope that changes are made to accommodate for both new and current users before it launches.
I cannot find the collision groups tab where is it
I need to open my asset manger and I litreally cant find it…???
How do i turn beta off??? I got actual work I gotta do, why was this FORCED onto me with no notice?!?
hi i spent the day getting used to this and it’s pretty cool, main criticism is lots of things that were just one button before are in some annoying drop down menu or harder to access than before.
also i don’t like the layout at all there’s so much empty space that could be filled in that could be utilized to make it feel less awkward to use
> Opens new Studio UI discussion thread
> Expecting constructive feedback; UI isn’t as polished as I’d have hoped
> Sees some valid critiques from top-level replies
> Roblox staff replies to these critiques with promising news
> This is why actual feedback is important!
> Scrolls down to more recent replies hoping to see more of the above
> To my dismay, majority of the replies are pointless complaints
> Scrolls to see more copy and paste complaints about how “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”
> Even more complaints asking for legacy UI to be maintained / “revert the UI”
> A few users point out the needlessly annoying replies that add nothing to the thread
> Users get called “Roblox bootlickers”
> Other new replies that offer genuine feedback get drowned by the duplicate hate replies
> lol
PLEASE KEEP INSERT FROM FILE LIKE THE WAY I HAVE IT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
I see this as having so much potential, just needs to be fixed in terms of bugs and ironed out.
Also, Plugins! how will they work in this? I see two plugin thingies.
Execution in this is everything, as changing the whole UI at once is a very big thing! Please do not release this until ALL bugs are ironed out!
Also, anyone who’s reading this, please try to keep it feedback related! Complaints do nothing without feedback on how to improve this!
Also, you can probably keep the same look of studio while having a refreshed feel to it. Like having little bubbles instead of how studio currently looks in the same exact spots so that our muscle memory isn’t ruined.
Throwing in my 3 cents for improvements:
- Built-in View and Test tabs. If I read this correctly, custom tabs will be supported, but I think it would be more beneficial to have them by default, especially for the View tab (which has been downgraded into a drop-down list, which isn’t really user-friendly compared to the old version).
- An arrow for docking and undocking the ribbon. It can still be hidden by right clicking and selecting the option, but a direct button to do toggle this action would be less disruptive to workflow.
- Adjustable padding setting in Studio. The current tab buttons are too big and have too much wasted space between them for my liking (which also makes changing the alignment a negligible action), and I would prefer them to be smaller. Have an option to change the padding/size of things so people like me can keep it compact (as in, the tabs take up only about half the length of the screen and are shorter in height like in the old Studio). Also would be great because I have lots of plugins installed and I would like to be able to have them all on the ribbon instead of needing to click on another dropdown button.
On another note, when the new Studio UI is released, will custom icons (like Vanilla) still be supported? The current Beta suggests no, but I’m not sure if it’s because its a Beta or because the update would override custom icons in the ribbon.
I don’t usually post here, but is there a way to disable this update? I’m not a fan of how small some of the icons are, especially given how much empty space is left—it doesn’t seem like that should be an issue.
you turn this off
Where does one find this? (I cant read what it says)
