Next Gen Studio UI Preview is here! [Beta]

How about you make a product that people actually appreciate and consume on this platform and then I’ll think about taking your advice about my methods.

How am I a Karen when It’s true… All I’m pointing out is that you don’t have any success on the platform and therefore you don’t have any credentials to talk about anything here since you clearly don’t understand how this company works. I’m not getting into a catfight with you. Have a great day.

Sure, I haven’t had any success on the platform, but I’ve been using it for a long while. I am also a functioning member of society, which means I know what constructive criticism is.

Constructive criticism is a feedback method that offers specific, actionable recommendations for change and improvement. Have a great day.

As someone who has switched to the new studio UI since it went into beta. I can safely say that this UI is not at all that hard to switch to and I feel like you’re exaggerating how "bad’ the UI is. It’s literally not that much different and actually pretty easy to adjust to.

Most of the differences practically are just minor, and yes some things did get move around in the Studio UI but once you know where it is. It will be pretty easy to use

Features are slowly coming from what the old Studio UI had + with the addition of custom tabs. I really don’t think there is much to complain about the new UI here.

Also this is just unnecessary

That’s such an interesting thing to bring up when I didn’t mention that at all. I’m sorry if you think me telling the truth is offensive to you. Hope you learn how to be creative someday.

We will see. All I want is my compact, utilitarian menu that I’m used to.

I used to not like the new studio layout but it’s not horrible but still not the best it can be. Tool tips show up when not needed and the current way to re-order buttons in a tab is painfully slow. New studio is not horrible but definitely has some issues. I still don’t like explorer beta for its many performance issues.

I think people just asking for a list of things you hate and would change. But I agree that there should be an option for small buttons, since this new studio UI should focus on customization as it says so.

I have a ticket open for this: Studio does not gracefully quit

As I said in my oh so controversial original reply (God forbid I be annoyed that a team of people is forcing this slop onto me with no way to revert it), My main gripe is the obvious pushing for a mobile-ready studio app through simplification of the UI. If you want to add studio to mobile, then great, but for everyone else who uses and potentially relies on this platform for income, making productivity more “User Friendly” (In reality just making buttons bigger and categorized differently) this way is a huge smack in the face when there’s so many other unresolved issues that need to be addressed in the studio client.

My grievances are as follows from most to least important, in a non sarcastic way so that certain people can understand:

  1. PC Studio should be utilitarian and compact so we can make use of the viewport as effectively as possible. I do not need a rescale button that takes up 20% of the window it resides in at the top of the client, most competent developers actually have eyeballs and a brain believe it or not. At the VERY least there should be an advanced or “expert” option that makes things smaller and allows more tools to be readily available without clicking off to several different tabs and folders.

  2. Roblox is focusing efforts on things that largely don’t matter and in my opinion make the service harder to use. There are a plethora of bugs, unoptimized code, and missing features integrated into studio and in the game client itself that need resolving. If roblox wants to be continue growing as an industry leader, they need to act accordingly and actually add useful things instead of vanity “upgrades” that only help novice, unexperienced developers.

  3. As I said before, this is an obvious push to mobile and doesn’t actually help competent developers in any meaningful way.

Your point about the buttons being big is valid

I agree they should focus on more important things, but this feedback is not related to the topic of the studio UI, most Roblox staff skip over feedback like this as it doesn’t help improve what is being worked on, the best we can do in this topic is to provide feedback to help guide the staff in the right direction but your response doesn’t point in any direction for staff to go. The roblox staff want you to answer this question, “Explain how the new UI is bad. Tell us how each button and element in the new UI is broken so we can fix it. Tell us how each change effects your workflow. We can’t just delete the new UI (or stop development all together) but we can change it to fit your liking before it’s out of beta”.

I think there are a few tablet-like devices with keyboards you can use studio on but I don’t think that’s their main goal. Roblox already added a way for games to be published through other experiences. Roblox doesn’t necessarily need to make a mobile studio when developers already made a mobile studio.

The simplified look is just for beginners, I still agree this should be more customizable.

At end of day, if they release the UI without the ability to make buttons smaller in 3-4 weeks time, I am fully on your side and will post in the release announcement that day of the issues. But they seem to have it under control. The small buttons issue has been told to them a lot so hopefully they do that.

(This was from a 24 days ago, so around 3 weeks to go)

Will the “Place Version History” also get an upgrade soon?

Also not sure if the beta is related to my other issue.

It’s ok, we all have different preferences in UI and I don’t prefer either compact UI or Big modern UI. The world would be boring if everyone agreed on everything and if we were all the same.

Honestly I do agree there needs to be a Compact UI option, as not everyone wants a Big Modern UI and not everyone is like me.

I made a mistake when I posted this, there was a dropdown menu with the different playtesting types, and I left it on “Run” oops.

It seems like it’s impossible to change Selection Style when using Next Gen Studio UI Preview. My guess is that this tool didn’t get ported to this new system (searching for Selection Style shows nothing). It also baffles me, that there’s no option for it in Settings -> Selection. The only working solution that I’ve found is to temporarily turn off the beta feature.

Not sure, but it’s definitely necessary to update the version history as it’s very useful but, without a search bar it’s very very useless, I have to scroll for minutes just to give up trying to find a version. It would be awesome if one day this update arrives. But honestly, many developers suggested it for years and it never arrived… It’s really needed for all developers.

Yep this is a known issue and we’ll probably put it in the new “Viewport Visualizations” menu…

This is getting some improvement with the new Asset Manager. At least, it’s not only buried under Game Settings. But it’s still showing the actual history in the same old pop up that I think could be much better. Ability to search makes total sense too.

We know place navigation and management can be a lot better. The good news is with the new UI we have a lot more speed and flexibility in making improvements like these. It will just need to get prioritized.

being able to scroll the plugin bar is great, but plugins now show all of their buttons rather than using buttons you can use to show the rest, there is a total of 8 plugins shown in this image, as both of my two edits of a plugin now have all of their buttons shown, rather than just 1, it is even worse when other plugins are enabled

Did you intend to attach a screenshot here? Have you tried working with custom tabs?

I think as folks get more comfortable with the idea of adding plugin tools to different toolbars, the Plugins tab will be hidden by more and more people. Originally we had planned on completely getting rid of the Plugins tab (favoring custom tabs + Plugins menu) but thought that would be too much of a change.

Another thing is making this new UI work with existing plugins. The current plugin API kind of assumes a pretty simple UI that is only available via Plugins tab. Looking forward to opening up more options for plugin creators to integrate with all the new capabilities.
