IF and when this goes out of beta, make an option for “legacy studio ui” to be a thing because the newer ui is too spaced out and just doesn’t feel right for me. i’m sure that a lot of people would agree that the “next gen” ui isn’t for them.

There’s absolutely no “re-skinning” here. The new UI is a whole new chunk of code from the ground up, The old UI has suffered many years of fairly inconsistent UI implementations which make it impossible to simply migrate to a design system. It will take time and coordination with other teams to migrate old UI to the new UI frameworks. For third party plugins, it will be on those developers to get them up to date. The old UI was primarily developed using Qt 5, which was released in 2012. Previous engineers did not prioritize forward compatibility when adding features to Studio, making the current engineers’ job more difficult. We get it, you don’t like change, but you have to understand that this is not just a “reskin”. The entire Studio is getting it’s framework rewritten, outdated and buggy elements are finally getting removed, this new framework will give engineers an easier way to improve Studio and add more features later on than the current pile of Qt 5 mess that the current Studio can be described as. no, I don’t think they will recreate the look of old Qt 5 UI elements in a whole different programming language just so that small % can use it (as I’ve said, this is exactly like asking Microsoft employees to add a “Use Windows 7 interface” mode on Windows 11) if you are talking about making the layout “look like the current UI’s”, then I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to do that once it gets out of beta

I noticed that there is no “Screenshot” option anywhere in the new UI, which makes taking 4k screenshots impossible. Recording is possible using F12, but there is no shortcut for screenshots as far as I can tell. Pretty annoying having to disable the beta just to press 1 button.

You will be able to add it to your custom tabs. In the meantime, you can do it via Quick Open Actions:

More Than Just a New UI

For the past year, we have been working behind the scenes on what we call the “Modular Studio Framework” — a modern, multi-threaded architecture that makes it easier to build robust Studio functionality.

A few of these improvements have been deployed when possible but the current UI was too entangled with old, outdated patterns that have been the source of many hangs and crashes in Studio. To really clean things up and set the foundations for a true Next Gen Studio, we needed to completely revisit the core UI of Studio.
