Next Gen Studio UI Preview is here! [Beta]

Hey @MeshOfPaul,
Just wondering if there’s any news about the smooth caret typing animation for the scripting tab? I’m curious if it’s going to be added in the future.

Also, if my suggestion gets implemented, please consider adding a setting to disable it.

I also have another suggestion!

Could you add a feature where dragging and dropping one scripting tab on top of another creates a group of those scripts–something like a tab folder?

could be helpful at organizing tabs

I am totally against this, I do not like some of the UI that has been resized to take more space from the screen, I am on a laptop and the fact that some of the things in the next gen UI have been resized to be bigger or to take more space is a L for small-screen users, specifically laptop users or people with low resolution.

Thanks for the feedback. Try right clicking in the ribbon toolbar and see what you think about the spacing with the labels hidden. Also some more comments on the overall spacing here:

Hello! I did pass your suggestion along to our script editor team. They said this summarizes the issue for us (along with some performance concerns):

I have no idea how it would work with our current renderer engine. Currently, the cursor is only ever at one specific cell or another. Additionally, the renderer doesn’t actually paint at 60fps, it paints when something has actually changed, at a maximum of 60 fps. So we’d need some way of virtually painting the cursor some fraction of the way between the old position and the new one, and then also immediately requesting new frames while the cursor is animating between positions.

Tab grouping is interesting. We’re a little limited here because the docking/tabs is one of the few Qt leftovers we need to build a replacement solution for. The good news is once we’re on our own system, we can entertain ideas like this. But no ETA at this time.

Yes we are aware of the issue. It’s a weird engine level problem with font management and we should be able to resolve it. The team that built that feature has been on higher priority stuff recently but they do plan to return to working on the visualizer UI soon.

Pretty much right! Our priority is functional parity with old UI (plus custom tabs UI). But we are excited to get back to iterating on visual styling updates/improvements.

Are you still seeing this issue?

https://devforum.roblox.com/t/roblox-studios-new-ui/2600103/1191?u=meshofpaul

these issues have been fixed and the mouse events work fine, the issue is related to the combination of many codebases and being unable to implement some features

lol poor @AggressiveCIown got bullied out of here, just letting you know clown that i agree with you. i would prefer the UI not come out at all because i think the UI we have currently is perfect, showing that roblox is still well… roblox but how its also gone through some modernization over the years. the new UI just looks like its been completely mordernized.

but i guess change is coming and we’re gonna have to deal with it, they won’t revert the update anytime soon. i suggest getting ur projects finished as quick as possible before you have to get used to the new UI.

“it’s over” ahhh post
it is NOT this serious
it will be easy to get used to the new UI, you got used to the old one

What… this is objectively wrong. “i don’t like this” is not a reason to scrap countless months of work and many people like the interface (myself included) It’s not that big of a deal, you guys are making it that way. I’m still mourning the loss of the mid-2022 Studio icons and the late-2020 Roblox menu everybody loathed so much when it was great actually.

Functions can be modified and new functions can be added, but please do not delete any functions. What could have been done with one click will become extremely troublesome.

Quick Access Toolbar I NEED THIS FEATURE BACK. IT WAS SOOOO USEFUL.

The toolbar can be customized, Although this is great, the “Quick Access Toolbar” is still needed. In some cases, regardless of what is being done, some tools can be used, may be needed at any time, and are frequently used. In such situations, it becomes necessary to constantly switch toolbars or add the same functions to each toolbar, This is very bad.

  1. The menu name is gone and the same plugin is separated.

  2. The name will not wrap to a new line, resulting in the occupation of a large amount of space.

  3. Too many expanded plugins can cause the screen to be exceeded.

Thanks for taking the time to share your notes!

Quick Access is not coming back. Instead, you will be able to customize toolbar tabs with any combination of existing tools you like (including mixing plugins with built in tools). So you will effectively have multiple “quick access” toolbars.

Most of the View tab actions moved to the View menu. But there were some actions that didn’t actually related to changing the view so they were put in more intuitive locations. Again, you will be able to to completely recreate your own View tab — and customize it to your preference.

Everything is a work in progress, including the plugins tab, and we’ll be addressing some of these points.

Ah yes, Roblox is going to revert an update they poured possibly hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars on, revamping the backend systems and making a new framework so they don’t have to continue working on top of the mess that the old system is.

Why are you talking like Roblox Studio is over too? “Getting your projects finished as quick as possible” Roblox Studio isn’t dying bro

what did i just say andro look

I do not like this. I want to have some small buttons available at all times without having to navigate to a custom tab. This should not be too difficult to implement if the custom toolbars are here. Just let us add custom options to the play/test bar. I need a proper replacement for the quick access toolbar. The Quick Access Toolbar is the quality-of-life feature I appreciate the most.
There’s so much space we should be able to use here. Please.
