Is it against the rules to use models that you have made but have not used ever in this?
I think you could use them as-long as you 100% created them, you wouldn’t be able to take a chair from the toolbox, recolour it and say you built it.
I’m pretty sure the criteria doesn’t say anything about interaction so you don’t have to worry about being judged on how long a player stays . I’m assuming animated doors like a temple door would be allowed and regardless when the contest is over you can add some none criteria things to it
Ahhh this seems really cool! Even though I specialize in 2D art and GFX, I still want to enter! Good luck everybody!
I know I already wrote a comment here, but since I can’t find it, do any beginner builders or people that don’t specialize in building want to try and make it with me here? I generally want to join, but I want to try and work with others.
If so, please contact me on my Twitter : @jlenflo !
This looks like an exciting challenge!
I think some of these people in this thread are not understanding the point of this though. The reason that outside tools and applications are not allowed is because this whole point of this is to showcase Roblox Studio’s features.
Good luck to everyone who enters!
(And don’t forget to add @WoodReviewer as a judge. Wood is a very important aspect to developing. )
Something else, as others have said this is very limiting in terms of showcases. Come on, we need atleast access to an external software to make some particles and enviornmental music and sounds.
I disagree. The point of this is not as much to showcase your skills in all programs as it is to showcase what you can do with just Roblox Studio’s features.
Yeah but its a showcase still its just plain without some sound or particles around the area, I really think there should be an exception with having music atleast and for what you said " Showcase your skills in all programs" using some forest noise and making a few particles isnt really showcasing your skills in all programs. Its basically just using roblox features, its like if you want to show what you can do with roblox studios features then implementing environmental sounds, waterfalls, beams, particles, should be allowed as who would care much to join roblox if all they see is not that interesting showcases.
It clearly says no plugins they want us to use only roblox studio built in tools
Is there a “prize” or reward for winning?
Does it means we have to use the Roblox default skybox?
Kinda of topic, but I am very experienced with scripting, will we ever get a scripting challenge at some point?
Looking forward to seeing the results from this contest. I see a lot of complaints that honestly come off as an elietest mindset of what “professional” development is, but consider the popularity and amazing things people have made with enviornments like PICO-8 which intentionally puts harsh limits in place and people still find ways to make amazing things.
Personally I’m looking forward to something that gives me a nastolgic blast of what Roblox used to be like, and shows the inovation of builders with limited tools.
Wouldn’t it be better to announce a building challenge once things like custom materials, skinned meshes and better skies are released and future is bright is finished? It seems like the roblox marketing team is completely disconnected from the actual product you guys are offering
Also why are developers not being paid to create what will essentially be marketing material for Roblox to show off and say “this is what our platform is capable of!”? Very snakey imo
Most of the things you mentioned are outside the scope of this challenge, as they require outside tools (making textures, models, etc).
Explosure can make a big difference, especially seeing as it’s one of the number one complaints I see people make reguarding the Roblox website (game sorts struggle to provide exposure to niche markets). Winning a contest like this can provide great positive impact on developer relation simply because people will see thier stuff.
If that’s not a good enough reward to make it worth it for you, you are under no obligation to participate. I’m just happy to see more community engagement like this.
Could there be a game jam in the future for programmers to participate in? I would love to participate in an event but I can’t build
Yep no plugins at all that change your game.
Yes I believe so but you can change the time of day with lighting and can use blur, sunrays, etc.
This is amazing, I can’t wait, me & a friend of mine created a game Roblox Game Teleporter [CITY MAP 🌆🎉] - Roblox & we have done a pretty great job I would like to submit this creation of me & @Mcdavid147797.
