Preventing Account Farming and Exploits

“I doubt this is their fault either, it’s obvious that Roblox is eager to not miss out on the increased CCU they get with botted users”, or it’s actually a very difficult to solve problem that is not roblox specific. Or both assume. I just don’t know how much to blame roblox because we don’t know what is going on in background

So as an example if someone were to macro in a game like fisch, would they get banned?

Whilst I can see this as an efficient way of mitigating unwanted accounts, it still doesnt explain how Roblox’s AI moderation model flags simple things such as a car icon in my instance as - “illegal and regulated goods” - despite only showing a very very basic silhouette of a jeep-like car - no plate - no logo - no nothing. (Yes i did appeal)

I have faith AI will improve over time although it does make me worry about what it already puts at stake. Im already seeing some users create alt accounts to maliciously “review bomb” new start-up games which could be an avenue to invesitgate. Personally I see this as extremely harmful to those just starting out their journey in the Roblox development space

Excellent reply, it’s almost impossible for cheaters to be deleted at the moment because of this.

Can you tell me a game on the front page that appears to be entirely botted. Was like that a few years ago? I haven’t found any

I don’t see why they need an “AI model” in the first place for this. They already tried that with the BanAPI and it was painfully underperforming. Why not just give the Hyperion team more permission to terminate exploiters, or let developers leverage a few of Hyperion’s more basic detection methods? I don’t see the point in building an AI to ‘detect’ abnormal behavior when they have a traditional anti-cheat already capable of doing so, as admitted by its own developers.

It’s just going to be a repeat of last time where they release their new ‘bot detection AI’ that fails to detect anything, and they then go parade it around as a working solution like they did with the BanAPI. There are simple solutions to these problems but for some reason they continue to dance around them instead of just doing what should to be done.

I think Murder Mystery has the problem too, half the pages I see are just default bacon hair accounts.

The realistic and effective solution is to let Hyperion do their job.

Any game that is popular and has rare tradable items will have the issue.

Glad to see this being addressed.

Not sure why youre trying to hard to defend the whole botting issue. “Not entirely botted” are you kidding me? Who are you trying to defend against here?

I agree, I just wanted to share additional example

-Terminate the cheaters that are already being detected
-Give developers basic exploit detection measures
-Do away with the overly forgiving policies that foster a culture a recidivism
-Extend alt-account detection to exploit bans
-Implement some kind of response framework for when players report an exploiter in-game

They spent millions of dollars to hire an anti-cheat company only to forbid them from banning cheaters. It’s not an issue with false positives, it’s not an issue of them being incapable of detecting bots/cheats, it’s entirely an issue of Roblox realizing exploit bots make up >25% of their game’s population and now the ordinary players and developers have to suffer because of it. For all of 2024 they let this nonsense balloon out of control as they continue to claim record-breaking CCU numbers and lie to investors.

It’s really bad when I message members of the security team about the growing number of bots/exploiters and the response I get is “The issue is banning the sheer number of exploiters, as we are supposed to grow our user numbers and not reduce them”

And that was a year ago…

What are you talking about? What about RNG games? And whos accusing developers? I havent seen anyone here claim that the developers of those games are the ones responsible for the bot issue.

And you took that guy’s thought on the whole issue and assumed everyone else got the same opinion?

This botting situation has gotten diabolical now in all honesty. Every single top game /experience/ whatever you want to call it, in every genre, is experiencing this right now. Talk about “AI” haha when this happens…
