[Revised] Hiring Scripter for Fun Game [50%]

Before I launch into my explanation of the game, you may be wondering “didn’t you say in your last post that you’d venture up to 75% for a scripter?” I did, but the percentage has gone back down because of this thread - I have changed the gameplay a lot - a change which will require more building and modeling. Note: I am aware of how difficult this job is, thus, when this game starts making revenue, you will receive bonuses added with your percentage (we will discuss how much you would require).

I have recently begun development on a Crossy Road/Frogger-type game called ‘Bloxxy Road’. Details about the gameplay can be found below.

If you haven’t played Crossy Road or Frogger, I suggest checking it out. It’s a free app for PC or mobile and is pretty self-explanatory. As is evident by the poll in this thread, hyper-casual, single-player games aren’t as successful/fun as multi-player games. Gameplay will be similar to ‘Option 2’ in that thread. I have copied and pasted the explanation below if you don’t want to open another tab.

Gameplay

I revise the gameplay to make this game multi-player. Since single-player games aren’t as successful, I would make my version more like TypicalType’s Lane Jumping in Epic Minigames. A group of 10-ish players “cross the road” together in the skins they choose (skin collection remains the same). They compete against each other each round and you get a certain amount of coins - dependant on where you place for that round.

Since it isn’t hard to die in this game, rounds won’t take more than 2 minutes and there are a lot more options with this. There can be pro servers, win leaderboards, competitive seasons, badges and skins for reaching certain amounts of wins.

What Needs to be Done

  1. Make and script UIs (you don’t have to make them really fancy). Scripts here will include unboxing crates, choosing skins, displaying skins, purchasing skins, showing leaderboards, credits, etc.
  2. Scripting the characters - when chosen in the UI, the player will become one of the animals I build (whichever one they choose). I suggest, again, that you play Crossy Road to see how movement works.
  3. Script the cars and other objects to kill the player in a smooth way (player’s character being flattened, exploded, etc. - not the default death).
  4. Script coin gathering so that crates can be purchased.
  5. Script the map so that it randomly generates ahead of the player. The coins, trees, and rocks will also need to randomly generate and the crates will need to be randomized.
  6. Over time, I hope to implement these features as well: pro servers, win leaderboards, competitive seasons, badges and skins for reaching certain amounts of wins.

After the initial release, it may be a nice update to add a single-player mode for those who wish to practice or play in solitude. This should be easier since the core scripts and movement scripts will already have been made.

NOTE: If you are capable of creating and scripting the UIs, you will be paid a price that we can negotiate when an investor is hired. If you cannot make the UIs, I will hire somebody else to create them.

We will be business partners - each having an equal say in the progress of the game. I am looking for a fun and dedicated person to help release this game!

I, personally, am really excited about making this so I hope that you might be too! Please voice any questions or concerns below, in my DevForum DMs, or on Discord (FroggerDev#9309). If you wish to apply, I ask that you contact me on Discord. Please include past work examples, and information about any parts of this job you may not be able to do - we will work from there.

Thanks for reading!

May i point out two things: firstly multiplayer would require more scripting on the scripter’s part since they would have to create a good system to keep clients in sync without remote spam and have to really work out how they will spawn map chunks, Secondly who scripts all the ui that gives the rewards?

You’re right, the scripting is harder - as I said, I am offering negotiable bonuses upon investment and/or game revenue. To your second question, any and all scripting would be done by the scripter - not sure who else would do that.

As I mentioned, making them is optional, but I expect the scripter to be able to program them.

my second point was ment to be sarcastic but obviously that was not obvious. what I ment was with your new revised idea a lot more ui will need scripting

Yeah, not obvious at all. To that point, my answer is the same. I will be happy to negotiate bonuses along with the percent to accommodate for the amount of work being done. I’m certainly not venturing above 70% for the scripter on this project.
