Probably, but I still think it’s a bit too risky. Vaccination has started, which is great, but you can still get the virus even with vaccine.
Hoping for everyone who does go to be be safe, Have fun at RDC everyone!
I’m not sure about the other vaccines but Pfizer had 100% efficacy in preventing serious to moderate symptoms, so the risk from getting it is basically not there based on current research.
Very, very great alternative, making possibly every invitee able to attend, I really can’t wait for this.
Not true, I’m a Regular and did not receive an invite for last year. My assumption is they target passionate developers they are aware of, not those with any special rank on the DevForum.
Also let me put emphasis on assumption, I’m not quite sure how they pick who gets to go.
Super excited to see what’s to come! Been waiting all year for this, and if we’ll be able to have an in-person RDC I would love to attend.
i hope i am updated when an exact date is coming because i am excited
It’s being pushed back to the Fall.
If you really think we’re still gonna be hard pressed with Covid by then, that’s a bruh moment. California is now mask free for vaccinated individuals. My guess would be “back to normal” before the end of July.
Going back to a physical RDC amidst a global pandemic is simply irresponsible, and completely disregards the international community that Roblox hosts. Vaccination might go well in the United States, but how about the rest of the world? Online RDC was a way to welcome everyone across borders while also accounting for the situation we’re all in, this decision is nothing but a step back; just like dropping a full RDC EU in 2019.
As an European and more importantly international developer this is nothing but frustrating, do you expect us to be able to book flight tickets and a hotel with weeks notice? It is reckless to travel across countries in these trying times, honestly I foresee Roblox restricting the in-person option to US nationals otherwise it’s going to be nothing but a place for COVID to spread among attendees. Frankly I am disappointed that Roblox once again seems to forget all about international developers, although at this point we’re getting used to it.
Have the consequences of moving the date even been accounted for? School starts for many during Fall, moving it from July decreases the amount of potential attendees. This decision as a whole has only reduced the opportunities RDC 2021 had. I hope Roblox as a company reconsiders this, in my opinion this change is a mistake.
Ah, George! My good old nemesis in the RDC part of the DevForum
I guess we’ll have to see, While people are being vaccinated, there are still a ton of other risks as well. There are mutations that the vaccine doesn’t seem to deffend against, and I believe that those are one part of the problem. The seccond thing is that there are people who just refuse to get vaccine, and Covid can still spread even if you got vaccine. I read somewhere that after 2 shots, you are 80% immune from covid, but there is still a 20% chance to get it. That is why I am a bit worried about having a physical meetup.
I agree with you Tor! Roblox has completely ignored the European community, and I am as worried as you are about this. RDC is amazing, it’s a chance for developers to form bonds between eachothers, meet new friends, and those contacts might eventaully lead to new games on the platform. Roblox is trying to sell itself as a global platform, but that is restricted by their stubborness decisions that undermines the developers outside the US.
This change of plans is nothing but trouble. I personally don’t know if I can even attend the digital event since they changed the date. I will most likely start university this fall, and I might not have time to attend RDC in that case. I believe that others will struggle too with the same dilemma. You shouldn’t have to skip school just to attend RDC, it should be a pleasent experience during summer, not a stressfull “If I just skip school I will be able to attend” experience.
And then we have the part about the vaccine. Many people seem to believe that they are immune to covid after getting their vaccine. But it isn’t that simple. You can still get covid even if you are vaccinated, and we don’t know if the covid vaccine is effective against other mutations of Covid. To put it simple: Just because you got the vaccine, it doesn’t mean you’re safe, and you can still get the virus, as well as spreading it to other people that haven’t been able to get vaccinated.
I’ll also add that there’s always this one idiot that will attend sick or at least will be sneezing everywhere to make people anxious. Roblox is really irresponsible with their attendee’s health.
They have an office in China. I’m sure as they grow the vision will be to have offices around the world to truly be a global entity. Just takes time. Roblox’s expansion of staff has always been seemingly slow and it’s what limits many of the changes on the platform. But one day, one day.
Vaccination is going well in most of the countries where the majority of developers are from including the US, UK, and Canada. Yes, not all of Europe, Asia, Africa, or South America are doing well, but again, they do have the virtual option as well.
You should have closer to 2 months based on what’s been said. If RDC is in Fall, and they announce date and everything by at least the end of July you should have about 2 months to plan if you are able to go.
Hence why this is a hybrid RDC, from the sounds of it you can still attend virtually, just like 2020. Although I agree European developers should have an RDC, the costs of planning and hosting that probably don’t make sense as a company at the current time.
This year’s RDC comes with many forces
I sure do hope so, let’s just hope that day comes soon.
I was just watching your 2019 RDC video lol-
I’ve always loved the RTC on Roblox. It brings lots of developer together and i’ve always talked to developers!
can somebody say who RDC Is ???
RDC stands for Roblox Developer Conference.
