For example, here is my avatar thumbnail on R15 holding the “Gravity Gun” gear, it has no issues and the idle animation works.
But then, here’s my avatar on R15 holding for example the “Neon 80s Boombox” gear from the Neon Party Guy bundle, the idle animation does not work.
I’m not exactly sure what is causing this? Some gears work some don’t, this isn’t just limited to that boombox gear, but even more modern gears like the Eggphone gear, or even the Snow Shredder’s Board have this issue too. It’s likely just how the gears were made?
Why is this if I may ask? It would make more sense if support for their use in experiences was sunset given that barely any devs utilize them in any capacity nowadays, and for those that do, they generally just cause players to have a really full hotbar or disrupt gameplay for others.
However, many gears on the catalog are still onsale for varying amounts of Robux, as well as unredeemed toycodes for certain ones still being in circulation. This specific category has been enthusiastically collected by many players over the years in the same way other items such as Hats and Faces have been, and therefore if a player owns and wishes to simply display a gear on their avatar, they should ideally be given the same treatment as other accessories, that hypothetical player being able to do exactly so without concern of that gear effectively ruining that avatar.
Can we pause here for a moment? Because the game LUCKY BLOCKS Battlegrounds by @silky_dev is entirely built around Roblox’s gears, has maintained a consistent CCU for years, and has almost 1.6B visits.
There won’t be a fix for gears because they simply discontinued them many years ago, and an admin has specifically mentioned that they no longer support them, so that makes sense.
@Hooksmith This situation needs to be sorted out. It’s unprofessional to continue to be intentionally inconsistent by picking and choosing what to fix. I have pointed this out on other reports and have been ignored. This disregard of the reporter’s time is disrespectful. If they can’t even bother to update the category’s description to state these policies/limitations, then I think that these types of issues should be rightfully fixed. It can’t be assumed that users have seen these policies be stated for previous reports.
Knowingly selling nonfunctional gears (especially, to children) without any disclaimers is not a good look. I would strongly suggest fixing them, taking them off sale, stating in their descriptions that they are no longer supported, or converting them into accessories. If nothing is going to be done to make things right, then refunds should be issued.
Kind of new to DevForum so correct me if i’m wrong here but:
You should probably turn that “knowingly selling nonfunctional gears” part into a new post of its own specifically for that, it’s something very important and making Roblox see it is important too, especially now that they seem to have stopped fixing gears.
I’ve been “scammed” by broken gears before, it’s very annoying, and while I might just have to wait out a few premium payouts to repay it, some kid might have to wait until his next birthday to do the same.
I personally think that Roblox should take all non-limited gears off sale, but keep Limited ones onsale with a “this item is obsolete and might not function as intended, it should only be bought for collection or decoration purposes” warning while they figure out what to do.
Alternatively, maybe they could make all gears go limited with the same warning, but that’s just a few ideas i thoguht of, this is up to Roblox to decide.
I also had gears absolutely destroy my console logs a few times on my games with gears allowed, they just spam the game with errors when importing a mainmodule i already reported as faulty.
