Studio on mac tremendously laggy

I switched my graphics mode to Metal and also tried OpenGL just in case, restarted my studio but it is still showing a blank screen for me.

It could be due to the fact that you’re using an Apple Silicon Mac.

MoltenVK is a thing though.

If my studio was working before with no issues but this started to happen recently, there could be a fix right?

Also, now I get a notification that the place couldn’t load and it just freezes Studio.

It could also be due to Rosetta 2.

Hey! Sorry for the late reply!

I’m intrigued by this. However, I’m not sure how a WebKit security fix helps with Roblox Studio’s excessive crashing, whether this whole charade is Roblox’s fault or Macs. The WebKit fix only applies to browsers to further eliminate the threat of being exploited, not towards application fixes.

i think it has to do with the fact your mac has an m1 chip
mine has an intel chip works fine

I never said that the WeKit security fix is supposed to help. My point was that there have been many updates to macOS Big Sur since it is release. It is perfectly usable and stable now. Most of these issues have to do with Roblox, not macOS.

Yeah, Roblox still hasn’t optimized their software for Apple Silicon Macs.

Not using a silicon Mac;

I’m using a patched MacBook. tl;dr patched to Big Sur (unsupported Mac). The only issues I’ve noticed have been specular issues, and the slight lag with games loading which seems to be a universal issue with older Macs being slowed down. Big Sur 11.01 introduced LOTS of issues for me, but updating to the latest (11.2.3) seems to have fixed most of my lag issues. If you haven’t, try updating to it.

Using a patched MacBook will result in those issues.

Most of my original issues were gone with an update. I should have added on that I’ve had issues described in posts here until I updated to 11.2.3. (starting in 10.15.)

The only issue that still occurs is specular scale issues and slight lag with loading games up within studio.

Again, I have a feeling that it has to due with the fact that you’re using a patched MacBook.

This issue has been an intel graphics issue that has been persisting since early Catalina beta. Roblox is working on a fix.

Where else has that been reported?

DMS w/ roblox staff, this thread here.

They have yet to provide an update more than half a year later. They also only mention Intel Macs.

I’ve managed to fix it by resetting my whole laptop, my studio is perfectly fine now but the bug is still very strange.

Again, I think it has to do with the fact that Roblox Studio isn’t properly optimized for Apple Silicon yet. Issues should be expected until Roblox optimizes their software for the new architecture.

I am experiencing this issue too. Studio sometimes freezes when inserting large models (sometimes)
I am also experiencing random FPS Drops while using studio.

Here is what Force Quit looks like when Studio is frozen.

My System Information

Also there is plenty of storage available in my drive

This issue has been occurring to me since APRIL and NEEDS to be fixed! (Im not on an Apple M1 Mac). Roblox Studio slows down my active applications (e.g. Google Chrome and other apps on my MacBook). My computer also gets very hot and its battery drains quicker while using Roblox Studio

Also, this is my first post on the DevForum!

I updated my MacBook Air (Retina, 2020) to macOS Big Sur 11.5.2 and I am STILL experiencing this issue. I HAD to reset my whole MacBook back in February because of this lag issue. Roblox Studio was working completely fine after I reset my computer, and started lagging again 2 months later. (And no, I do not use a patched MacBook)
