🤖 A note on AI

To be clear, AI will never be as good as a skillful artist, this tool included. Our intention is for this to be another tool in your tool belt that you can reach for while on your creative endeavours.

For those with existing art skills, we see this tool being used to concept different styles rapidly, or provide a starting point that you can touch up afterwards in other programs. For beginners, we see this tool lowering the barrier to create and participate in the Roblox creator ecosystem.

We plan to invest in both AI and non-AI tools to make creation easier for all.

⭐️ Features

Generative Texturing Tool

Upload your mesh, describe what it is (e.g., "a bucket hat"), provide the AI with some art direction (e.g., "vintage", "psychedelic"), and click Generate ✨. Our texturing service will generate a albedo texture (and optionally PBR maps!) that fits both the mesh and your art direction.

Need more control? We also have a Manual prompting mode to allow you to specify the exact prompt the AI receives.

Invite your team

Work in a team? Invite them to your Organization to collaborate on your next creation. Organization members are able to view and modify all uploaded assets and generated textures in the Organization.

Share with your team or to your audience

Share your creations with share links. Share links by default are only visible to members of your Organization, but can also be set to be publicly visible. This allows you to easily share your creations to your audience on Discord or other social platforms.

PBR Maps (BETA)

Automatically generate normal and roughness maps alongside your albedo texture by enabling the "Generate PBR Maps" advanced option. This feature is still under active development - feedback is appreciated!

⚠️ Known Issues

  • Thin objects: Texturing thin objects such as guns or swords can result in texture maps with considerable artifacts. We are actively investigating this problem.

  • Model orientation: Our tool expects that you provide models that have their “front face” facing the negative Y axis. For models without a natural “front face”, ensure that the side of model that requires the most detail is facing the negative Y axis (ex. the side of a gun). Providing an incorrectly oriented model may result in quality issues.

❔ FAQ

How is this different to Material Generator in Studio? Unlike Roblox's built in Material Generator which generates a generic tileable texture, our tool will create a custom texture that matches the geometry of your object (i.e. the texture is "mesh aware"). Roblox's built-in Material Generator is great if you're just looking for a basic texture (ex. wood, sand) that is repeated across your entire object. However, if you're looking for something more advanced and custom to your object then Taqla UGC Studio is the tool for you!

Is this tool only for UGC creation? No! It can be used for all 3d content creation use cases (including off-Roblox). However, our primary focus for Taqla UGC Studio is building tools and features for the needs of UGC creators.

Are there concerns around publishing these assets to Roblox? Every texture generated with Taqla will still need to go through Roblox's moderation system on upload. It is your responsiblity to ensure that anything you create using Taqla and attempt to upload to Roblox does not violate Roblox's terms and conditions.

https://en.help.roblox.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004647846-Roblox-Terms-of-Use

Do I need a GPU to use this tool? Nope! The texture is generated on our servers so there is no hardware requirement on your end!

🗺️ What's Next?

This is the initial version of Taqla UGC Studio, and we are still actively working on fixing the known quality issues and expanding the tools feature set. If you have any suggestions or feedback on what we should work on next, please let us know in the comments or on our Discord

That’s cool, however, could you add an option to delete the items you created? I don’t like the fact that you can’t delete what you created.

Yea for sure! We plan to add this feature this soon. Will give you an update when it’s in.

LOL, that’s hopefully wrong. I think it’s already wrong.

I thought it makes the mesh too but it only makes the texture .

Anyways. Whery nice! I think it makes the texture extra so that it fits with the mesh?

We looked into using AI to generate the mesh as well, but unfortunately the quality isn’t quite there yet. Maybe we will add it one day.

We are thinking of adding a catalog of generic meshes to the website (e.g., sweaters, hats, shirts etc.) that you can use. If you have any suggestions for items you would want to see, let us know!

Yea the texture is “mesh aware”, meaning that it will match the geometry of your mesh. We explain it here in the FAQ:

This is insanely cool, the results look fantastic! Great work
I think it’s also really cool that whichever AI this is using can be applied to something like this as well, good on them too :raised_hands:

March 12th Update: Quality Improvements

Our first quality improvement is now live: artifacts on the bottom of models have been fixed.

This is the first of many upcoming quality improvements we are working on. As always, we would love to hear your feedback on this / anything else in our Discord!

A amazing feature would be to instead of using AI to generate a Mesh,

You could create a feature for Image-Based 3D Capture to Model, as that would be pretty useful for any Developer or Animator!

You could take a bunch of images of different angles of a Soda Can, and then have the Soda Can as a 3D model,

and then choose to use the AI texturing tool over the original design on the Can if you wish!:+1:

Just an idea for a way to implement Mesh Creation without having to use AI! :slightly_smiling_face:

Also, this tool looks really neat!

Have a good day! :upside_down_face:

Gonna keep trying hopefully I dont run out of credits before getting something decent.

March 16th Update: New Upload Asset Flow

To help solve the model orientation issue, you can now rotate your models when you upload them!

rotation

As a reminder, the tool expects that you provide models that have their “front face” facing toward the camera. For models without a natural “front face”, ensure that the side of model that requires the most detail is facing the camera (ex. the side of a gun). Providing an incorrectly oriented model may result in quality issues.

Stayed tuned for more updates coming soon!

Heya, we will take a closer look at what is causing these issues. In the meantime, give us a shout on our Discord and we’d be happy to help further

April Update: HUGE quality improvements shipped :mega: :mega:

Apologies for being MIA for the past few weeks - we’ve been hard at working fixing the quality issues that y’all have highlighted. Thanks again for the feedback! Super excited to share the fixes we just shipped:

Random Lines Glitch

No more random line artifacts on your generated textures! This issue was especially bad on narrow objects like swords.

Grid Pattern Glitch

The grid pattern artifact has also been fixed! No more weird grid-like patterns on your textures.

Occlusion Bleeding

We’ve fixed the issue where certain colors from one surface would “bleed” onto the surface behind it:

Super excited to see the creations y’all continue to make with Taqla :slightly_smiling_face: We’ve got a lot of new features cooking up so be sure to join the discord to know about them as soon as they get released!

Hey everyone - after a few months of the website being down, we are excited to announce that taqla.ai is back up!

Oh goodie! Just tried today and got some weird results…

Well, you are supposed to have the model turned in the position where you need the most details, like in your case, the Facial area.

And so it was a bit more of a user error with the “weird results”.

Have a nice day. :+1:

I did do that. Originally I had it turned to face the camera. but the texture did not generate, there’s just random black spots all around the model.
