This is an interesting update, sure clothes aren’t free to upload anymore but anyone can make them now if they have enough robux. Also this might really help against clothing botting as its no longer as easy to access.
I read the title, but just to confirm that this doesn’t apply to game passes either, right?
I see the intention to remove the premium requirements and throttle botted clothing, but the impact this is going to have on smaller designers - who already struggle to find a market on the platform as it is - will prove to be much more significant.
Not to mention majority of the more established bots that currently run rampant on the catalog will already make more than enough to circumvent these fees anyways.
It seems like a very half-minded solution to a very real problem. It doesn’t take into account clothing designers that struggle to make any profitable income and it adversely decreases the value of a premium membership.
I love this update since I never had any premium membership, but finally now I can use my Robux to upload my favorite clothing that I made. Thank you Roblox .
My guess would be due to how premium is necessary for shirts/pants versus how t-shirts are for everyone.
This makes t-shirts still for everyone, and they aren’t very harmful to spam upload anyways.
That being said, paying 100 R$ per item isn’t really my idea of “how to stop the spammers” and until they make something to go through the whole catalog and remove all the botted items, this change isn’t that useful.
A better alternative to this change is to allow anyone to upload clothing, but only allow the public catalog to have content uploaded by approved designers. This concept is very similar to UGC applications. For people that aren’t approved, groups already support a “group catalog” that any group can have. This creates an easier method to get rid of malicious users. They might advertise the group and try to get people to buy from their group’s catalog, but people will be able to report groups for clothing botting/copying/etc and get the group and/or the group catalog removed from the website.
This can be also a good idea for toolbox itself, since botting issue is also there .
I honestly really enjoy the concept of that idea. Won’t hurt smaller designers too much considering they’re already overpowered by bots.
Oh no please no no no!
Please don’t implement features that will hurt legit users, that’s very unprofessional.
Unless their captcha system is flawless I would prefer not to have this
Yes, I agree that this is not the way to fix botting and while I don’t mind the initial investment fee, I don’t understand the point of it, do you want more Money or to make the catalog better? Because you know very well that people with ill intentions can use their ill gotten gains for fees @Roblox

Captcha system really annoyed me for straight 5 minutes of doing some impossible tasks. So I agree with you on this one.
Apply this concept to the Library as well then. This fixes the discovery of maliciously uploaded items, which is the angle that Roblox needs to be attacking from instead of harming all users.
This ain’t it Roblox… this ain’t it…
Okayyyy I just read the part where a CAPTCHA will be required to upload. I guess that helps with botting but… can you make your CAPTCHAs a little less on the annoying side first? The die one irritates me so much; especially when it goes from 5 to 6 for no reason.
My opinion on this is that it would effect new players on uploading clothes but would stop botters for a while even though they have made enough robux to cover the fee.
It should be difficult to even steal clothes rather than -1 from the url. Maybe just add a watermark that covers the image so they can’t just easily steal the image. Otherwise this won’t fully stop the bot problem but will slow it down.
Fun fact: There are many online services that solve CAPTCHAs via APIs that bots can use. CAPTCHAs (especially the one Roblox uses ) just creates a bad experience for the user.
Here are a few I found from a simple Google search:
Don’t see this as a great idea. If you want to prevent botting, use your horrible captcha. If you want to charge an unnecessary fee, make it 10-20 robux, not 100.
This would be a good idea on the premise that bots don’t have Robux. News flash: they do
Finally! No more copied clothing!
Will Premium users be able to do it for free? I will be REALLY dissapointed if not.
Turns out 50 ROBUX for everyone.
While it will be great to finally be able to upload clothing without Premium, I can foresee this hurting clothing designers if the fee is too great. If this is a way to counter botting of clothing, this certainly won’t help. The people who already are botting have made enough Robux to pay their bot accounts to upload. Being I am paying for Premium I shouldn’t have to put forth the Robux I am earning just to upload clothes that may only be bought once or twice at most. This will certainly be disappointing for anyone who does own Premium and is strictly a clothing designer, because now they will have to put the few Robux they earn to begin with back into uploading clothes. Really doesn’t seem to balance out well.
