Upcoming Changes to Avatar Catalog Upload Requirements

This is a very good idea in terms of clothing designers, although the fee is 100 robux, others will be encouraged to design higher quality clothing. This will also make the profits for clothing developers rise as there will be less botted clothing.

Good update!

Unless this update is a prelude to the systemic purging of stolen assets, we’re really just hobbling legitimate artists while illegitimate ones run rampant. The players this benefits the most are also the ones least-equipped to maximize profits from it. Instead of “two steps forward/one step back”, it’s a step forward for free users, but then everyone trips and sprains their ankle.

I think a preview of the shirt on a character before you upload the shirt is needed if this is implemented for obvious reasons

And it will also kill small clothing groups while only solving a fraction of the problem.

People are saying that Premuim users should be exempt from the fee but wouldn’t that lead to the original problem of bots abusing the free upload for premuim users?

I kind of agree with this, I may be sounding a bit spoiled (kind of am) but I can scrape up 20 dollars in less than 30 miniutes through household chores.

If you manage to get 5 dollars a month (shouldn’t be too difficult) then thats (5x12) 60 dollars a year at the minimum of 5 dollars a month. This gives you a bit more than 45 uploads (assuming fee is 100 and you purchase 4950 robux which is 50 USD)

One of the worst things you could’ve come up with. Seriously? 100 robux per upload?

I wonder if this will truly help the copying issue. Many people already racked up Robux from stolen assets and if they are able to sell those for 50+ Robux a piece then this fee won’t affect them as much since they are able to make a profit back from a few sales.

I feel as though this fee directly impacts smaller designers and upcoming designers. I really hope Roblox shines more light on this topic and either alter it or explain how this will help smaller designers.

Quick question.

If we bought premium, would we still have to pay a fee? Because I’d rather buy a monthly subscription than have to pay 100 Robux to upload clothing.

(If this question has already been answered, my apologies).

This won’t stop botting because it’s going to be possible still, just cost 100 robux per time.

Your starting to lose money I guess. Premium is meant to be a Premium service, not just a service that gives you Robux along with a few extra perks (I still think Premium is extremely good value). It honestly seems like Roblox has been going downhill for the past year with stealing ideas without getting called out (yet any YouTuber who does this immediately gets called out). I can name some of those ideas right now, Roundify, Part to Terrain (currently Studio beta feature). You’ve even promoted stolen assets on Twitter and you’ve even tried to steal an UGC asset but just slightly changing the texture. You’ve been trying to steal people’s careers away for a while now, such as composers (this happened when Roblox thought it was a great idea to announce an ad for Tommy Tallorico) and now clothing designers. Your discouraging people to develop on a place which should be completely free to develop on. Roblox seriously needs a change with relations with us developers.

So let me make a scenario real quick. A new developer wants to buy something small, lets say, a badge for their game. They pay 100 :robux: for the shirt, then have to sell that shirt for 143 :robux: to get 100 before the tax, thats 243 robux to buy one badge, might not seem like a lot for some people, but to a new dev seeing a badges price go up by 150%. I don’t really know how to think about it.
10 shirts is 1k, and so on. This could be terrible for new devs.

How has Roblox been going downhill, and when did they steal ideas?

This is a needed change, but the price is too high.

Us clothing designers are really happy that this update is going to prevent bots, but we’re also worried about the fee, if they confirm the fee for 100 robux, how can small clothing designers like me get more robux? If we raise the price to atleast 200 - 300 robux per clothing alot of peoples are going to say that we’re “scamming”, we won’t accept this fee, if the fee is atleast 10 - 20 robux we’ll be okay with it, but yes, we’re happy that this update is going to stop bots.

This would actually be reasonable. While it takes a bit of time and it mainly shows you are 90% actual human because you’d have a verified email, 2FA enabled, you’ve had your account for a while on the platform, and you engage with the community. The Developer Forum part may be a bit tricky though because it can be hard to be a member of the forums and takes a bit of time. Nonetheless, it can prove you are an actual person rather than screwing someone with an unreasonable fee. Personally, I don’t know how Roblox didn’t think of something like this. They probably went right for the option that can make them the most money but shhh.

They have been stealing ideas for the past year. Roblox has been going downhill for a while now, probably since the introduction of Rthro.

I’m quite upset with this change.

For Roblox Armies, this is gonna drive their Uniform Makers that do Customs for people who pay just go down, profit goes down for them.

This is just all around terrible in my opinion.

I’m pretty sure that fee starts at 100 robux which is just dreadful for some people

You could’ve at least just kept the premium uploading wall and have like a 10 robux fee because 100 is just too much if it is gonna be like that.

It could be the same for everything I mean. Sounds, Videos in the future (I don’t know a lot about them. I would like them to introduce gifs tho.)… All of those solutions will certainly reduce the amount of bots. But that’s not what roblox wants.

Honestly I think this update will do more harm than good. Bots already make more than 100 robux per botted clothing they make. They still have plenty of robux from already sold clothes. So I do not think this will affect bots that much. They also do not have to buy premium any more so that just makes it cheaper for them.

For the actual designers this will discourage them a lot. I am a pretty small designer and I barely even make 1 sale. Right now we have 50 robux in the group funds and that is not enough for the fee. Small designers will not be able to make any clothes anymore because they will not be able to even afford it. I think that this update will cause many designers to quit because the fee of 100 robux is just way too much.

So in the end I do not think this update will affect any bots, and this will discourage many small designers and maybe big designers too.
