Upcoming Changes to Avatar Catalog Upload Requirements

Really wish roblox used the money we give them to do something usefull, like update their servers. It’s annoying that every time Adopt Me has a big update, roblox is down because they refuse to uplaod their 5+ year old servers.

Plus, the only real benefit premium players have now, is the ability to devex, but most people never even see enough money to devex. Honestly thinking of switching over to Core Games once I finish my current commissions. At least they don’t screw their devs over like this.

Cons:
Premium becomes even more useless.
Developers who make clothing won’t see their clothing make it out unless roblox somehow gets rid of the pre-existing botted clothing.
Clothing prices mean the minimum people sell clothing at will go up possibly exponentially.

This right here is the problem with the current system. It allows people to run bots that upload 100s of duplicates and bury the original clothing item pages away.

This is ineffective because people running bots can purchase more upload slots one-time and then continue to upload massive amounts of duplicate items.

Most users buying premium do not care about being able to sell clothes. Most premium users buy premium to get the monthly Robux stipend, receive premium benefits in-game, and get premium discounts in the avatar shop.

In recent months, Roblox has stepped up their moderation game by removing bot accounts and all their duplicate items they uploaded. However, it is virtually impossible for moderators to ever effectively moderate duplicate items in the avatar shop until some sort of limitation is placed on clothing uploads. Without a limitation, such as a fee, people can run bots to rapidly spam duplicate items in the avatar shop.

You stated cons of the catalog itself, not this update.

Premium is focused to players, not developers. Players like it, developers don’t.

This is a current problem and has nothing to do with this update. It is an attemp to get rid of those botted clothes, any better idea?

That’s inflation and there isn’t even a confirmed fee price. That may be bad at first, but will end up being good.

The fee would be 100 robux. So around 2$ if you expect to buy it from the robux shop, as you cannot buy exact amounts from the shop.

I personally haven’t really met many clothing designers who also do other things. Anyways, your pros were all valid besides the botting one which has been disproved by many people in the comments. Also, I feel like we should be taking sides, this update will have a major impact on the clothing designing community and although unlikely if there’s a favor for one side over the other in the Roblox community it could change whether or not this will go through. Lastly, I don’t think Roblox is doing this with greedy intentions, I think they’re just trying to find a way to combat botting. You may think it would be a good decision with some downsides, but I think it would be a bad decision period. Who knows though, if it ends up happening we will just have to see if its good or bad.

This update will effect the entire platform. People will need to pay more for clothing because developers will now have to compensate for the price they have to pay to upload clothing. It’s a loss for everypne except roblox, who gets more money to line their pockets. At the end of the day, companies like this make decisions that will ultimately bring them more revenue.

Unacceptable, make a captcha or something else but not make a fee!

Haha that’s cool, what are you gonna do next? Make it cost 100 robux to be able to friend request someone? Or what about making it cost 1,000 robux per word to comment on an item?

I find this outrageous? Clothing designers are already promoting robux purchases by putting hours into their work. Out of all the possible dev careers on this platform, designers are perhaps already the worst paid.

I personally have no say in this but roblox isn’t adding this for the revenue, If that was the case they would of just kept premium only. Now would you rather pay a small fee to upload it and not have it mass uploaded leaving you in a loss or Just have premium get your shirt/pants stolen and mass uploaded? You may decide.

Wouldn’t that be a bit much for people who just started out making shirts?

I don’t think this is a very good update. Premium will be useless unless they are in the DevEx program. The avatar will be boted because there is no need of buying premium every month. I suggest that the roblox staffs consider it carefully and then making an update.

I heard that Roblox is trying to make premium appeal more to regular players than developers, which is weird considering that DevEx is barred behind Premium (although I have a theory that it won’t sometime in the future, if things like this keep happening).

Isn’t that…the point of companies? To make a profit?

I think what he means is that a company can sometimes get too greedy like EA for example and will just make awful updates and ignore criticism from the fanbase just to quickly make profit.

Similar to how Youtube is now forcing advertisements on literality every video despite more than half of those creators not getting any ad revenue in return.

Or how Project Red rushed to get Cyberpunk 2077 on lower-end consoles despite it not being ready yet, though this was likely due to pressure from fans.

Any company can make terrible decisions if they focus on wealth too much sadly, Roblox is no expectation.

Which kinda explains the questionable stuff they’ve done this year.

( i.e: spying on people’s scripts without permission, making low effort sponsored events, advertising Tommy’s sound pack in DevForum announcements, making the group payout system worse and now this clothing update. )

I was reading through replies and this stuck out to me. This is false information, if you stop paying for Premium you just can’t upload more clothing but the clothes that you’ve already made stay up…

Your wording is a little confusing. But I believe you’re trying to say that if you lose Premium, your clothing for sale will remain for sale. That is incorrect, I just had my premium a few days back and I just checked and my clothing items were offsale automatically.

That must be a recent thing then because I’ve never had this problem and I’ve been uploading clothing from both profile + group for a few years.

But even then most/a lot of designers just upload through group and the Premium issue doesn’t occur for those who upload through group so that doesn’t really effect all clothing designers.
