Upcoming Changes to Avatar Catalog Upload Requirements

No, I meant that other people commission them, and other people has other ways of making profit

You still will, that’s all old assets which aren’t affected.

The majority of commissions that I personally would get/see are from clothing groups. If these groups aren’t profitable anymore then there’s no point or funding to hire designers.

This won’t stop the problem, it’s just adding prices to upload the clothes. Those will remain up. The bots wont stop either. They’ll just use group funds and a new script.

This also causes a major threat to one pending commission of mine, where they may charge back if they dislike this upcoming update.

Tearing via studio is awesome!!

But adding a cost to publish the clothing seems like it will hardly slow people down. If someone wants to publish stolen clothing and make money off of it, won’t they see the fee as a small price to pay and continue to steal clothing?

That is an absolutely horrible response. Still need clothing for people, and that just screws over any clothing group if your response is to ‘just look into game development’.

I’m still 50/50 about this update, i think the idea to use robux as a way to stop botting is genius but Premium users should be able to upload for free.

Gonna make this graph here to see what others think.

  • I agree with this update and think it’s a perfect solution!
  • I agree with this update, but Premium users have to upload content for free.
  • I don’t agree with this update unless small changes are made to it.
  • I don’t agree with this update no matter what’s changed.
  • I don’t care about what changes are made.

I could not have said it better myself. Although I am not a veteran designer like you, Everything in this comment I agree with. Especially as a smaller designer, making any profit from designs that we get to upload is already extremely difficult, especially with the completely broken catalog. This update is just the final blow to tell other smaller designers and I to just stop trying to manage a clothing group. I would say only 5% of my assets ever get one sale, which will definitely not pay off the fees for uploading them to begin with. I wish Roblox could just try to stop reuploaders from being able to view and take the uploaded files to begin with, rather than killing off any chance we have to make a profit.

Maybe you should let people enjoy working on art as is and not force them into a niche they don’t like. This is a poor response and reeks of arrogance.

It’s a step in the right direction which limits a significant amount of those who upload clothing using a bot. I can’t imagine the catalog team isn’t thinking about doing something in regards to all of the current uploaded spam clothing

How much is the upload fee? I feel like we could make it high enough to prevent mass botting but low enough so clothing designers can at least sell their items. Most clothing designers need to reach out to bigger ones or big group owners to get their items recognised. As a result, if they do not seek out bigger designers they will not be able to profit if the fee is high as they can only feasibly sell at 5 robux. Imo, the price floor ahould be increased to 7 robux.

Overall, I am VERY happy with this change as it will heavily stop botters from mass uploading copies.

I am going to assume you’ve never been one of the “people” that have had their primary source of income on Roblox be from clothing? Clothing groups are an entire industry on Roblox that has been around longer than any of us, and this is going to put a majority of those groups out of commission. I agree that something needs to be done to stop the botters but rear-ending the legitimate designers isn’t the way to do it.

Absolutely not!

I understand your effort, but this is bizzare! 100 robux per upload is way too much especially for active designers! This will change the whole community in a negative way!

If there is a fee to upload, what should it be?

Fee for shirt upload
  • None
  • 1-10 robux
  • 11-50 robux
  • 51-99 robux
  • 100+ robux

You didn’t understand my original post. Nevermind the detrimental impact this has to up-and-coming designers, but this will put the established designers that have made a living off of this industry out of business because they will no longer be profitable.

Almost all of these responses are speculation. Everyone is getting worked up over nothing. No one ever said there will be an upload fee of 100 robux. Please read this thread before you come out with these replies.

This update basically says “**** you” to anyone who is trying to get started as a clothing designer. People find things in their imagination, and they create it. Roblox’s slogan is “Impowering Imagination”, and this is the absolute opposite of this. For your imagination, for you to sell items, you have to pay actual currency for an online game. I don’t understand your point here, but groups make this their only profit. People build communities off of it, and people build friends off of it. It destroys small creators trying to sell to people and even destroys larger groups. You can’t just tell people to “gO fInD sOmEtHiNg ElSe” when this is what they feel comfortable doing and this is what they want to do. I don’t run a clothing group, I develop for a large theatre which also sells clothing. Your reasoning doesn’t make sense.

There’s ALOT of problem throught that, us clothing designers don’t make alot of money throught commissions, it’s worst, alot of peoples DM us and say “it’s overpriced!” and keep talking bad about our prices, this would never help by charging the fee for like 100 robux.
