The bots make millions of Robux, this update isn’t gonna stop them. It might even draw more bots onto the Roblox platform.
I saw your post in Koneko Kittens’ YouTube thumbnail. I just was like oh I know her, she’s a good YouTuber and designer. After that I forgot about it. Some people go way too far.
Roblox: Recaptcha while buying & uploading clothes? NO
Roblox: Better system that could detect bots? NO
Roblox: pay for uploading and selling which does not affects bots at all? YES YES YES
This can be very damaging to designers, especially new and small ones. I have seen clothing abuse and spam, (e.g. clothing bots), but clothing bots already have tons of money, leading them to easily upload even through this update. Foremost, it limits the premium features. A lot of premium users purchase premium to upload clothing and now this update may ruin it.
This is just, awful, awful, awful. Awful in every single possible way, that it just makes me furious that whoever was in charge of this had little to no idea while making this update that it would just do nothing against bots and kill off another creative part of roblox.
Adding a 100 robux per clothing item fee will completely obliterate all of the small clothing designers, and even whole small groups of clothing designers, and will just benefit the bots, since they already have a large amount of robux from the copied clothing that they sell. Making mostly underage users pay large sums of money just to express their creativity isn’t protecting their clothing against bots and copying, it’s greed.
I don’t even design clothes, and don’t plan to do so, yet I can still see how utterly idiotic this change is. Roblox will die without it’s developers and creators. This change isn’t just making it more difficult for Roblox developers/designers to express their creativity, it’s entirely killing off a creative part of Roblox.
I will forever wonder what happened to the “Powering Imagination” part of Roblox, as the only thing that I, and many others, have been powered with due to this change is sadness, dissapointment, and pure anger.
I’m a bit late to the conversation, but this is a devastating change. Roblox continues to roll out features that harm developers, such as this, where the community clearly chose the option to not continue with it.
Firstly, this takes another selling point for premium away. No use having premium if you just get Robux from it and could buy that separately anyway.
Secondly, this is going to be a killer to new designers who don’t have enough Robux to go through with this.
Roblox seems to keep pushing out features that drive developers to resort to off site payment methods, such as being paid directly in USD via paypal or other methods. The most upsetting thing is I’ve seen individuals moderated for accepting payments on and off the platform as well. We hoped 2021 would be a better year… but I think if changes like this keep getting rolled out like in 2020, it only further shows other individuals viewpoints that the company is more in it for the money now, and not the views of developers on the platform.
This clothing fee update is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Although my group has 57k+ members, I don’t have other designers that work for me, and my group is based off members count more so than the profit I make. I will be somewhat affected by this change, but it’s doubtful it will cause me to quit even if I’m not happy about it. I just don’t think honest groups should have to suffer for someone else’s wrong doing.
I seen a couple good points made in earlier comments. Why not hide the templates? That is one of the best ideas I have seen yet. Templates are just to easy to obtain. I also believe Roblox is trying to make a profit from this. They ask for our suggestions, we give them, and this is what they give us? This fee isn’t going to solve anything. These bots and copying groups already have enough robux to pay the fee, and they will continue without interruption. Roblox really needs to reconsider this. I feel bad for the smaller designers because it’s already a struggle to make a way in the designing community. With this fee implemented they probably won’t make it sadly.
Can we try a permanent roll-back?
Actually I don’t support this and I’m a developer. Personally I think they should instead require phone verification and then make sure it’s a legitimate phone and not something from a VoIP software.
If that doesn’t work then they should require ID / SSN of the player if they’re 18 or older, or from a parent / guardian if they are younger. PayPal does this.
As a white person, am I in a position to forgive another white person that says a racial slur or engages in other hateful acts?
No? Same principle goes for this guy. Of course, I acknowledge the fact that everyone is indeed entitled to their own opinion, but he took it way too far for the position he’s in.
You can form your own opinion on the upload fee whether you’re a clothing designer or not, but if you’re not, then you are not in a position to say “meh 50 R$ isn’t much for the average designer.” That is basically speaking for a community that he is not part of, which is messed up.
because you’re a consumer, not a supplier. The designing community members will decrease because of this fee. The clutter won’t go away for a long time because of the millions of botted clothes already on the catalog.
As some users have stated above, this change is absolutely headed in the wrong direction for a number of reasons.
Yes, I understand that with this change individuals without the $5.00/mo Premium membership are able to upload clothes which technically means that more people will now be able to upload clothing, right? Not necessarily. This new system they’re moving to is much more expensive for the user in the end, especially for a frequent uploader/designer. (See below for more details). It’s going to cost users significantly more to consistently upload than it has before- making the system extremely beneficial to Roblox (profits!) and harder on users who already didn’t have much money to spend on uploads to begin with.
From what I understand with my past experiences, Premium users are able to upload a total of 40 pieces of clothing a day (20 shirts/20 pants) for an entire month, on average 30 days,- which results in about 1200 uploads if you’re taking full advantage of this. An individual with Premium is able to do this for $5.00, which is the equivalent of 400 robux. Now, to achieve the same amount of uploads, one must pay an astonishing 60,000 R$ (50 R$/upload). That’s about $210.00. Is no one else seeing the issue in this?
Continuing, I understand that botting and copying of clothing has been an ongoing issue and has been needed to be addressed for awhile now; however, this is a completely half- thought out solution. Think of it as putting a bandaid over a wound that needs stitches to heal properly. It wont fix it, even if that temporarily looks to be the case.
These big, already successful groups will have no problem continuing to upload and keep up with these fees- as they make that back in a day (if not hours). However, this does not change the fact that this is a gamble for everyone now and for every. single. item. Smaller groups practically have no chance now unless they’re spending a vast amount of money on uploads, advertisements, etc. Where’s the empathy for the more common user? For users that desire to purse a dream? For users that want to explore being creative and how others perceive it? In addition to this, as @ziasmic stated above, the “majority of the more established bots that currently run rampant on the catalog will already make more than enough to circumvent these fees anyways”.
This update does no good to the common user, and seems only as an extremely profitable update for Roblox as a company. Users will pay money directly to Roblox to acquire robux in order to pay these fees, essentially gamble this money they invested by uploading these items with the fees, continue to pay the market fee to Roblox for any sales they do manage to grasp, possibly spend more money on robux for clothing advertisements to try and get their group or name in the market? There are so many other solutions to botting, or “upload abuse” as you put it, that you could look into without putting so many people in the dirt and yourselves as a company above the rest of us struggling.
Who cares though, right? As long as the Roblox is profiting in the end, who cares about the same creative individuals that make their platform possible.
I like your points and I’m glad you read the announcement right for the 50R$ fee, (a decent amount of people misread it and think it’s 100R$), however I don’t think the last part about roblox profiting makes it better, nor do I think that’s what’s happening. All that’s happening is very poor communication between roblox and us, this applies to developers and clothing designers. I’m not sure why the communication is poor, maybe they don’t have the resources, but I know they aren’t just doing it so they can profit.
All that aside I agree with the rest of it.
I agree with that, but saying “lol bye” won’t make them understand that, you’ll just come off as immature to them. I just think it could’ve been worded better.
It seems like they are relying on game developers now to sell premium.
By paying out devs with premium playtime it encourages them to create a new genre that is F2P PR2W (premium to win).
I see this as a way to get some of that money back from developers and circumvent people uploading clothing for other people who don’t have premium.
Stop complaining about this fee!
“It’s hard for small clothing designers to make money because of the fee!” well then work hard to become a bigger clothing designer who the fee doesn’t affect as much!
Sure, you might lose a bit of money trying to become a bigger designer, but in the long run, you could make tons of profit!
This is a great feature. Now people can finally upload clothing without Premium, however I would like to add that I don’t think this will fix Roblox’s clothing botting issue, but it’s a great thing that Roblox already are starting to clean up the catalog.
Bro are you an idiot? Do you have a brain? You’re at a huge loss, it’s not even worth it anymore.
Per clothing piece: 100, if it were to be like that anyone who has a small group will stay a group with small funds due to that argument.
“Git good” is an extremely poor argument. I don’t believe you really know the gravity of effect this update has upon people. “Work harder” doesn’t address or take into account just how much difficult this ridiculous update is and is the equivalent of telling some who’s being crushed by a tank to “push it off harder!”.
How can you work harder to gain enough robux to not be affected when raising said money in the first place has been made pointlessly more tedious or even impossible? Most starting clothing creators don’t even make more than 50 robux a week. And with this travesty of an update, they’re going to have to hike up their prices to even attempt a profit. Yet, who is going to buy any of this overpriced clothing when bigger groups can afford to use cheaper prices, and stuff before the update is already cheaper anyway?
It’s a shame that I have to constantly repeat myself to people who come to this thread and make counterproductive takes without actually reading and thinking into what our criticisms are actually about. Telling people to “stop complaining” about things is a very totalitarian mindset, and I and many other people are very appalled.
Dude what…? Have you ever put yourself in small designers shoes? There are competition for recognition everywhere within the clothing designing community. Yes of course you can advertise your group for more members/buyers, but would everyone who saw the ad click on it, then buy the clothes? No. In my personal experience, I’ve made over 4 ads but only a small percentage would click on it and an even smaller fraction would actually buy my clothes. This means if I put in 200 robux for one ad, I recieve only like 30 clothing sales and thats like 90 robux profit. Not enough lolol.
Besides, ads can cost really really expensive so please do consider our feelings about this. Not everyone can succeed to “work hard and become a bigger clothing designer”
I’ve designed clothing actually. I know it’s hard to get sales as a small designer! But you can work your way up into becoming a bigger one instead of making excuses to not work! 50 Robux is nothing.
This point is invalid, many developers spend tons on ads. Do you know how much it sometimes takes in ads to launch a game? It’s a lot.
