Is it possible to see this replaced by something else? Maybe Game Sponsored items? With the rise of UGC hats and such, it’d be great to offer hats that games can sponsor, especially if they’re made for the game!
Guess I’m that one person who had a use case for this (albeit a pretty silly one)
I had an old (…granted, none of my projects are “new” at this point) scifi-naval game that among other things had a Gravity Coil as one of the items in the shop. Uniquely this could be obtained via the sponsored gear thing that’s being removed here, and it would just automatically replace it with the ingame version of it (team colours and all that)
This sad they going removal game sponsored gear lot game used it everyone say buy to the fun and troll people
Its been a good ride, but that makes the website more clean in a way
Good update. Nobody used this and those who did use this didn’t profit from it much. Gears also aren’t bought as near much as they use to be.
How do you expect this to work at all?
Before I begin, I’m also curious about what incapaz said, could we also expect the gear settings that allow for the choice of what gears may be allowed to use in games, be removed?
I kind of think this is still a somewhat useful feature, allowing users to choose if they want to allow players to use any gear inside their games, and if they want to limit it to only one or more types of gear.
Now I’ll go on to what I was wanting to say.
If I’m being honest, I never actually knew that that was what that would do,(adding purchasable gears to your game) or atleast, I never really utilized it. I think it’s interesting to be in the midst of a feature removal.
Upon looking at the games of mine that have purchasable gear I’ve noticed how the trend of me adding gears seems to have ceased in my older unfinished games, where as compared to now I don’t add any. I see how as time went on I started to waver from adding and not adding gears as well. I found 7 of my games that had gears added onto their start page. ,
Only three of the gears had I actually thought about a purpose for them, the rest of them were just for fun, like the hot potato gear I have on this game, [Early Access] My City - Roblox .
That’s the only part of this that’s a little sad for me, that people in the future, (unless I add them to inside of the actual game), won’t be able to get in on the fun little joke gears or “just for fun” gears I added. I also might forget about the gears I had added for actual use, in the future, but I can just write them down.
As said in the previous announcement about a Roblox lighting update,
“The future is bright!”
I look forward to seeing what other updates and changes Roblox may have in-store for in future for us.
This wouldn’t make much sense at all because Developer Products are specifically designed to be purchased in-game. If you were to do it outside, you would have to have some kind of checking system and with Dev Products being able to be purchased multiple times, it would just be way to hard to do. This is also kind of defeating the point of game passes, and it would add more confusion to a gamepage between game passes and dev products.
Overall, not a good idea.
While I understand why this is being removed, I think games that are currently using the feature should continue to have access to the tools.
This change could be game-breaking to some older, and newer games that rely on this feature
I get that nobody uses gears, but why would you do this? People that may have used this feature (like Elevator Universe) will have to use alternate ways of getting their players purchased items to-game. Was this straining the servers? Are you streamlining Roblox base code? Why was this done? Could they not have had a feature nobody used still be a feature? I just don’t get the WHY.
Although this is sad to see such an old feature go, we have seen it with Tix. I have a few questions though.
-
Will the people that bought gears in games keep them and if not , will they be refunded a bit of the robux they spent? I say a bit and not full because they would of likely had already used it already so they got the experience of it already.
-
Is there a major purpose for this or is it just because no one has been using this feature? Could it be because it does look a bit odd seeing ‘No virtual items or power-ups available.’
Now thinking about this, it may be due to the fact that most roblox gears are out of date meaning they are broken. -
Gears have been the easiest way to sell items. Gamepasses you can only do donation ones if you don’t have a clue how to script. Gamepasses also require a logo.
In game items which are one time use or server ones can also be a bit hard for new comers.
Will gears still be as easy to get robux from as before?
Anyway, I say a good bye to the gears in the description. I take one last photo of the gears section on games. Until next time. Good bye gears ( in the game description).
Legends never die.
Well, now that game sponsored gears are going to be removed, it makes me ask, what are we going to do now with gears?
Trade if they are limited items and use them for your profile/ avatar.
Hopefully work on revamping all of the gears in the Roblox catalog.
Gears aren’t leaving ROBLOX. Gears will stay around for a while, due to the Bloxxys. All they are saying is that they are removing the ability for developers to sell Roblox gears on their gamepass store. You used to be able to get a substantial cut from the purchase of a gear if it was purchased using this forgotten feature. To reiterate, the forgotten feature is the one being removed.
There are many more modern ways do this exact same thing, they just don’t want clutter on the website is what I’m guessing
By “Developer Products”, do you mean things that can be purchased multiple times in-game, like amounts of cash, or do you mean single purchase items? If you mean single purchase items, then this is already covered by game passes.
I personally think this is in preparation for phasing out gears on Roblox.
Gears have become obsolete on Roblox for a number of years about now. They used to have this special quirk to them where games were able to utilize them to their advantage. It was a fantastic role gears had back when games incorporated them into their concepts.
Nowadays, 97% of games we play don’t allow gears from the catalog, and a lot of times the scripts in those gears are broken. There’s almost literally no incentive for gears other than bragging rights or just making your avatar look cool. There is nothing special about them anymore.
I wouldn’t complain if Roblox decided to remove gears, because I don’t blame them.
The vary slow death of gear… i miss year items being added and gear fights and stuff, it was fun…
This wasn’t used much anyways. A greater marketing tactic can be used in game. Totally agree with this update.
